Very nice, tackling the biggest one first that no one has been able to get just right. The aura around it works so well, with just the radiance you’d expect from that kind of phenomena.

I imagine the only way to see Shaw in the role here would be for jonh to photoshop a face for him and animate it slightly. It’d be great to see, and I suspect we’ll either see it or not regardless of discussing it here.
That’s how a prior version of my OT project was, with only ROTJ being sourced from 19SE. I’ll be interested to see how it compares to the other two in look and feel.
What is the thought on doing a quick V1.5 with what we do have while we wait for others?
I might do that but I can’t right now. It wouldn’t be all color corrected and nice either.
Hell, maybe you’d be able to make a LUT from Adywan’s 1997 project and apply it to the 2011; idk!
And I can get you D+80 for ESB if it’d be helpful for bits and pieces to patch up the 2011. (R2 scanning for Luke on Hoth looks purple, the awful sabers on Cloud City, a shot of Star destroyers with a weird digital glitch.)
Have the battle droids speak in Mr. Rogers’ trolley sounds.
I did that as well, since alternate audio tracks are relatively easy.
I would caution against using Adywan’s old 1997 SE reconstruction. It was sourced from 2004-era HDTV and encoded relatively small by today’s standards. It’d be a lo-fi source to build on. If you’re able to adjust the 2011 BluRay I think you’ll find a much better end result. I have a bucket of LUTs that were provided to me for 2011 ESB if they’d be helpful. I’ll PM you about them.
I’ll be interested to see how your project coheres with the 4K83 footage you’ll use. I say that just because I found the 2011 version of ROTJ really difficult to work on. Granted I don’t know much about color correction.
I’m interested in why you seem to prefer the 2011 BluRays as a source over the 19SE. They have their pros and cons, and the former has a long history of being reviled.
Perhaps even though the unmodified 19SE is more palatable than the 2011, modified versions of each could shake that up?
In the case of ROTJ, I found the 19SE and 4K83 to cohere pretty well, far moreso than the 2011.

I think the project has certainly passed the ‘biting off’ phase and in ‘chewing’ mode approaching swallowing.
Awesome!

I meant that I’d revise my ANH project, which is sourced from the ‘19SE’ master first seen in 2019 on Disney+, to take advantage of the R2 light.
Well, that’s pretty cool! At a quick glance, episode 4 “Light Side” has at about 6:10 a brief clip of the key moment, “I am all the Jedi” with no dialogue or music.
I don’t know if that’d be useful for Sherlock or Faraday, but worth checking out!
I would certainly say this resource would have been very nice to have, but it doesn’t appear to immediately open up any locked doors. Could have saved some effort in the past, but that’s all right.
It really looks good. Boy, it might be worth revising my project with a version of the 2011 master to get in on that. I know you’d said you may later on tackle the 19SE, hence my curiosity of how feasible it’d be to transfer this work with R2’s light to that transfer.
How much work is left Hal, going by the first post things seem to be going very nicely.
Scroll to find a recent large post a couple pages ago for a current update.
I don’t know, and probably not, but would it be easy to map that work onto the 19SE and output? I don’t suppose we’d be so lucky but I hope you don’t mind asking.
This is how R2D2’s flashes will look like:

Gorgeous!
Yes
ROTJ, Shaw’s ghost is always gonna be the only thing that feels right to me.
TROS, you can understand why it’d be Hayden and it’s fine. It’s a little weird that everyone else is the old age at which they died, but eh.
Nah, just seems weird to make it someone other than Shaw, granted it was out of necessity. Who knows, maybe something like that gallery would give Jonh just the right amount of material to work with. Certainly doesn’t hurt to have it exist.
Yep. Exciting times.
I like it though, as it maintains more of TFA’s structure for the end climax even while shifting its meaning quite a bit.
