I exported a ProRes master file from FCP7 to import into FCPX for color grading. Then exported a ProRes master from FCPX and fed that to Compressor 4 (current version) for multi-pass, max bitrate encoding to a BluRay-compliant format. (Source material was ripped from BluRay, after all.)

Can you give any examples of compression artifacting you noticed? I can compare and see if they’re in the source, or the ProRes master file.

I had the end credits playing while working on distribution tonight (bc why not) and got felt those heartstrings being tugged by John Williams’ little friendship motif.

The DVD and TinyEncode versions are now available, but the intermediate version will take a few more hours to encode so I’ll try to get that out in the morning. (It’ll be 1080p instead of 720p that I’ve gone with in the past, but still around 8 or 9GB.)

Also, there’s something special tucked into this V2 release no one’s picked up on yet. Hmmm….

I was probably fatigued while typing this all up, and it was late at night. Hopefully it’s not too confusing, and I can update it for the listings, if not for the torrent-able released versions’ text files.

To be clear: none of those are mistakes in the edit, just mental flubs in the writeup.

Worse come to worst, you could still stream the TinyEncode version via Google Drive. But yes, absolutely hoping to give anyone who desires the chance to watch on Christmas Day.

That’d certainly be helpful. All the torrents for past and present projects are on the Drive and will be added as they become extant.

Uploading the full 1080p version now, ETA for the other three versions is sometime tonight. (If the kids can get to bed WELL, I should have time to get the other three buttoned up and distributed ahead of tomorrow.)

I didn’t export any that don’t have the civilian fleet, but there are versions both with and without the KoR voices. And if you remind me in a couple days, I can get you stems for that sequence from the theatrical.

Krausfadr has volunteered to do just that.

I think the Google drive that I have used the past year or more will be up to the task, as I haven’t had any problems since using it. It was graciously provided by somebody called Hondo’s Trove.

It doesn’t give me an ETA but I’d expect close to 24 hours.

There’s an 8GB or so 720p version and a 1-2GB very small 720p version.

And V1 was released November 2020.

Well, nothing else to do for the moment but wait a long time for it to encode. Unless I find anything show-stopping, I expect I’ll be able to get the big ‘ol 1080p version up sometime tomorrow. Then the two 720p mp4 versions, and then I will do the DVD5 whenever I can (I’m sure this is the least valuable).

So anyone hoping to make a Christmas viewing out of this, I hope not to disappoint.

Well hey, I’m sure Nev will handle it admirably, and it is not the only thing outstanding.

It will, yes. That’s the current state of things. 12/20 suddenly came up as a goal when the kewlfish saber footage was discovered by Master Lawdog, but it only would’ve happened if the relevant people happened to be able to just strap right in and do the work immediately. Real life says otherwise and so it’ll be released as soon as I have those bits in hand. Now you know everything I know.

I agree, having a non-arbitrary story reason helps a lot.

Anakin building 3PO (or the droids really having anything to do with characters in the PT) feels random and weird. At least chronologically it makes enough sense how these droids ended up connected to OT characters since it was not by chance but because they were stationed with Leia’s parents’ staff.

There are just a few things being worked on, after which point all I’ll have to do is encode and upload.

These are:

• Removal of Rey’s milky eyes (Nev)
• About 4 or 5 shots of the crackly saber (Luka)
• German language track (redditor KetchupGore; wouldn’t let this one hold things up, though)

Haven’t heard from Nev in about two weeks and last I heard from Luka it may be next week before he could start work on the shots.

So, the outstanding items are few, and that’s about all the light I can shed on things. I will say, though, [REDACTED; let’s not spoil things].

It’s a fairly static shot in terms of framing and camera… I wonder if it’d be possible to make Finn and/or Rey (but mainly Finn) less hyperventilate-y in reaction to Han being stabbed.

There used to be a YouTube game where after that week’s ‘60 Minutes’ you would take Andy Rooney’s segment and edit out all but the first and last sentence. Sometimes it’d be funny, other times not.

So for Star Wars, just pick a character and identify their earliest and final spoken sentences in the saga. (And feel free to go with whole saga, individual films, or even EU material.)
