I like that one too. In the PTKFGS universe.
I like that one too. In the PTKFGS universe.
Include tear-jerking flashbacks of baby Greedo being hit in the face by Anakin. A victim of the Sith his whole life.
My biggest question is whether I’ll ever be able to come across the title ‘Starlight’ without mentally pronouncing it the way they do here:

Have TLJ head into the closing credits using the same music as TFA and TROS.
Here’s my revision of the SKB firing sequence. I plan at some point to get from Nev a version of the shot of Leia without the extra casually walking by, as the one in Starlight has also been slowed.

It was all a joke. I don’t plan on adding any more TROS peeks into the vision. Palpatine’s ROTJ line is plenty.
They are, at least at present, unchanged from the 19SE version aside from color correction from ohteedee.
Luke says, “You are a Palpatine.” Kylo Ren echoes this. Palpatine laughs and says, “My grandchild!”
I found the sound effect of that train when it first appears absolutely hilarious. It wasn’t the traditional krayt dragon sound (as heard in the '77/'97 versions of ANH or The Mandalorian), but rather the “krayt dragon” call from Ben Kenobi as heard in the 2011 BluRay. That absolutely ridiculous fucking sound, like someone doing a Michael Jackson impression in the restroom three stalls down.
I take this as a retcon. The OOT version of Ben’s call is indeed a krayt dragon, and the 2011/2019 version is this train.
That etching is really cool, but I don’t wish to strip it and use it myself, as it isn’t totally necessary.
And yeah… I gotta admit the dice scene is just this side of totally working, and I would like to avoid this feeling like a fan edit, even though that dice scene is hella cool.
Hehehe, that would be a good one.
I don’t really feel a need to use the falcon deleted scene, even though it’s effective in Starlight. It feels kind of superfluous to me.
I will attempt to make that shot of Kylo less red, and if I can’t I won’t use that little snippet.
I convinced myself of the added sound effect for the Star Destroyer while typing this. lol
The panel on the falcon lighting up is so subtle, that I don’t really feel the need to use it. To me, the falcon going to lightspeed is enough, as it is enough for Han to find and he references this later… in a line that has been cut. Hmm, okay, yeah, that does make sense now. I’ll use it.
And the dice scene is something cool, but I can’t tell if it’s just me that finds it just slightly weird. I plan to use it but I’m on the fence.
I don’t want to get into TikTok, but I bet there’d be a chuckle or two in one in which 3PO mentions that he was built by Darth Vader.
I didn’t do any editing today but did inspect things and determine what I plan to steal from Nev’s project. These are hopefully unobjectable changes that won’t ruin TFA:R’s niche for anyone. If anyone would like me to share reasons for not using this or that other change, I can.
Poe’s ladder retracting
The glow before Kylo activates his saber to kill the guy I was convinced was playing Ric Olié is removed.
Undo the dawn effect when Finn wakes up on Jakku, since it should be later the same day as Rey is already at the outpost. Having it be daybreak only works if you restructure scene like Nev does.
Remove “cute boyfriend” repetition.
Use the Han dice scene, for the fanmade magic. I’m not wild about using music from Solo, but it works for the moment, and Williams did write that theme.
Shorten Maz’s trek across the table
Add the new shot of the pirate ship to show Rey intends to follow Finn (really cool)
Restructure end of Maz battle with Finn running earlier.
After “bring him home,” new quick scene of Kylo watching the weapon charge, using two shots deleted from other scenes.
Use a few new shots for the SKB firing sequence, to no longer rely on a reused shot of Leia. Also, I will use his Leia reaction shot that paints out a casual background extra, and hopefully use his version of the way the music ends as it goes along well with Leia’s movements.
Use the cool shot with the binary beacon from TLJ.
Add to Rey’s Force vision several overt mentions that she is Palpatine’s granddaughter.
I appreciate the feedback on these ideas. I think I will go ahead and use the dice scene, due to the sheer fan magic involved. Nev bothered to include a message in the first post of Starlight’s thread saying anyone may freely use any parts of it, so I’ll take that as license to just determine for myself what is good to import to this.
In Restructured as it stands, Finn and Rey know where the Resistance base is located, but go to Maz’s castle anyway. Han just says, “If you want to get BB8 to the Resistance, Maz Kanata is our best bet.” And then he asks her to get the droid to Leia. But Maz tells him to do it himself, catching him in trying to pass the back and implying he could have done it himself.
Eh… I guess that makes enough sense.
The thing about the thumbs up is that removing it helps a later change about Han needing a “clean ship.” The lighter joke is still there!
But I’ll take a good look and think about what I feel belongs in Restructured, erring on the side of excluding things in order to maintain its role as ‘mostly conservative.’
I think this TikTok Text-to-Speech thing might just be the most worthwhile breakthrough we’ve had since the invention of the NLE.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more…
My mind is going… I can feel it.
I’ll reconsider my list of changes, but I really do wish to remain distinct from Starlight and avoid bending too much in its direction, even to include stuff I like. It’s there to be viewed in its own right, after all. One thing that may not be obvious unless you’re thinking about going about editing is that Starlight is sort of a gordian knot and some things about it I like only work alongside more extensive changes.
I don’t plan to use the dice scene or Falcon deleted scene, as much as I enjoy them, for instance. Not wanting a huge revamp, just that there’s a few things Starlight presents that enhance TFA:R’s existing goals.
I don’t think it’d help anything. As it is, the movie pauses to take a moment to show Boba grieving, and extending it with a closeup of the helmet isn’t necessary. All it’d do is make the audience say “ah so that’s just reusing things” when they get to the BOBF.
We see the four spirits we’ve seen so far in the saga, is the ultimate reason. Leia has not yet fully transformed into the Force evidently, and as Jar Jar said above ROTS implies the ‘disappear and become a ghost’ ability was recently discovered in history. (So weird.) in the theater, the voices made me question things, since it would seem to go against ROTS. (Although the novelization mentions Yoda being chill about Qui-Gon’s voice because he assumed it was merely the Force speaking to him using his voice until he emphasized “no it’s really me.”)
Also, having four we’ve seen before feels better than 37 all over the place.
Fine. (I was on the fence about doing so, and wanted to avoid just importing a ton from Starlight.)
With the release of NeverarGreat’s masterful ‘Starlight’ project, I find myself prepping another revision of TFA:R. My goal is merely to make use of a few things and ideas that help Restructured with its own goals, and not to just incorporate everything that I like (because we’d pretty much just end up with Starlight).
Here’s what I’m planning to do:
Undo the dawn effect when Finn wakes up on Jakku, since it should be later the same day as Rey is already at the outpost. Having it be daybreak only works if you restructure the surrounding scenes like Nev does.
Remove BB8 revealing the location of the base to Rey and Finn. This change is necessary for a change already made to TFA:R to remove the heroes’ motive of finding a “clean ship” when visiting Maz. Now, they see her because she knows where to go.
Use Nev’s little scene with Poe saying the X-wing squadron must “mop up some of these TIEs” before they can resume bombing the oscillator, replacing 3PO’s line about needing a miracle a little more effectively and explaining why the fighters have strayed so far when we next see them.
Use a few new shots for the SKB firing sequence to make less use of slowed down footage and remove the reused shot of Leia which sort of ruins her reaction after the planets are destroyed (the pan from laser to operators and Kylo, Rey, and Finn looking up at the red beam)
Add the shot with the added cloaked binary beacon from TLJ. (How could I resist that?)
Not really. The line was removed in the first place not to change Boba’s character or lore, but because the scene just stops to take a detour to give exposition about a character the audience is familiar with but has no bearing on what’s happening.
I think the audience would have no trouble at all inferring he’s a clone or accepting when this is more or less stated in new content.
Also, without the line specially stating he is completely unaltered and genetically identical, it makes for an easier time head-canon-ing that even in Boba’s case he still ages somewhat faster than his host.
This is a lot of fun. The possibilities are endless! 😂
Anyway, I’m listening to the commentary track now. It’s a real treat!!
omg stop it you’re gonna make me pee my pants
If I hadn’t have just finished things, I’d put that into the commentary track too!
