The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)
Time

Business was slow today so I worked on adding Morrison to ROTJ. I used the sound of Boba’s jet pack from Mandalorian s02e01 to help mask the original scream. I’ve replaced vocalization when Luke slices his blaster, he collapses, says “what the,” flies out of control, bashes against the barge, and gets swallowed. (The last two weren’t easily removed without damaging the soundscape because they took the other sound effects with them, so new sounds were added to augment them.)

It’s not polished fully, but it sounds all right. The performance is a little less screamy, but I tried to make it as close as possible. Fortunately the Bounty Hunter GameCube game provides a lot of options. I’ll post a clip whenever I can finish it up.

There’s also a very nice take of “as you wish” that I plan to add to ESB, to have in place for whenever I next revise it. (Won’t put out a whole release for just that.) I don’t plan to replace the other lines, since they would be paraphrased and wouldn’t blend well. The “as you wish” line is in a scene all its own and I think it’d do fine. It sounds like Morrison imitated the Wingreen delivery. For a hypothetical first time SE viewer this would be easier to swallow.

The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

So, what’s next for Hal?

Well, I would like for all of my project to eventually reach a point that they are complete and that I can feel that they are. For the prequels, that’s achieved. For the sequels, that’s close to being achieved (need to do another revision for TFA, and who knows about TROS). For the originals, I feel there’s still better source material that will emerge in time, but that the ‘structure’ of the edits is complete.

I also really like Adywan’s new take on the saber onboard the Falcon in ANH. However, it remains to be seen whether it’ll match up well since I believe it’s built on the 2011 BluRay. But I agree that that’s the best that scene has ever looked.

Personally, I don’t feel the need to try to go in and correct myriad filmmaking issues like the Leia sync. I suppose I could give it a try, though. This project has slipped somewhat from its original goal of hybridizing official versions, but I still tend to lean in that direction anyway.

Idea & Info: The Brave Little Toaster DVD - Ideas on how to restore?
Time

Having gotten to sit down and look at it properly, wow! It’s dramatically better than the source material. The amount of noise removed is stellar, and entirely appropriate for this sort of movie. The animation is very clean and you can see the pencil lines as such rather than aliasing artifacts. I’d totally believe that this was an official HD release that used the same old master.

There’s still film specks and dirt and things like that, and I don’t know if an automated removal of such things would work well or not.

This is a wonderful release, and something I’ll be glad to have stored on my hard drive, as a big piece of my childhood. When I look over the movie with the question of its original aspect ratio in mind and aware that it had a widescreen form, I can’t help but wonder if it was done with an open matte. That’d be relieving to know.

Big thanks, Octorox.
