The Rise of Skywalker: Untold (WIP)

That’s probably about as good as that plot change is going to get. Is clearly relays the necessary information, and it would NOT be the clumsiest thing in the movie. 😃

Is 3PO’s voice AI? It sounded like maybe you had just recorded your own voice. It isn’t bad, but if an AI voice based on 3PO’s “red mode” voice is possible, or just a distorted AI 3PO voice, that may help sell it.

Good use of Palpatine’s smile shot, given that it won’t appear in its original context.

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)

Hello. A few months ago I saw an edit of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker Force Ghost from David Kaylor’s Return of the Jedi – The Final Cut from his Star Wars: The Original Trilogy – The Final Cut edition, where David visually aged his face to make it look like the canonical age of 45 that the Vader/Anakin character had when he died. I think it was a more necessary change than having a younger version. So, Hal, I don’t know if you are interested in adding it to your Custom Special Edition of Return of the Jedi in the final part of the film of the Planetary Celebration version, or if you prefer to leave it as it was, with the original Anakin Skywalker, played by Sebastian Shaw. If you are interested in seeing the image, here is the link down below. Greetings! 👋🏻

I categorically prefer Shaw as Anakin’s ghost in ROTJ, as I feel it says more about Anakin’s redemption, whereas using Hayden makes it feel like a reversion.

Yes, the robotic filter is slightly missing for the AI part. Same problem I encountered for Zorri in Ascendant (but surprisingly not Kylo).

Maybe decreasing the volume slightly for that part could help disguise it better. Otherwise, we’d have to figure out how Lucasfilm designed the Vader voice filter.

To reiterate, I don’t think it’s that noticeable. Only people who are purposely paying attention would notice.

Ryan Golden has practically perfectly replicated the Vader filters, even for each individual movie (it was different each time). I could ask him about it. I’m friends with him.

Shouldn’t hurt to ask. Thanks!

These are mainly hybridizations of the official versions. Because Star Wars home video has such a bad history of colars, I’ve done what’s possible for me to do to make the base sources look good.

And as the changelog describes, there are a few creative tweaks from myself and others that I’ve included editorially. These include the Falcon being seen in a blue hyperspace tunnel in ANH (thanks to Sir Ridley), improved appearance and close-to-original dialogue for the Emperor in ESB (stolen from Adywan’s lawn), and modified vocalizations for Boba Fett.

But, I do like the old school look and feel of these movies and so I don’t want my go-to version to modernize everything. The SE already puts these two things in tension and so for better or worse that’s the model: some of the rougher things are helped (although sometimes just made digitally rough) but the overall feel remains the same. I love Adywan’s work, and I love the work by Harmy and others to present the original versions. This project is the middle ground I’d prefer to watch.

I hope I didn’t go too far. What’s in this box? Oh, it’s a change I considered for a while, but decided against.

The universally, very much including here, Carrie Fisher having passed on doesn’t really impact our use of AI for this project other than that the filmmakers themselves were hamstrung by her loss. We used AI for at least two other characters when there was a need for it.

Fan editing at large is an unofficial hobby, a digital version of something natural and inevitable with stories that will always occur. No disrespect is intended, generally, and certainly not when it comes to any of the performers whom aren’t with us anymore.

I also want to get ahead of a few things, just because I know they will be commented on. A few of the “woke” things, or other things certain people complained about are going to be cut from my edit, but that’s absolutely not the reason why.

I had to add a statement about my TLJ edit shortly after I released it; a shame to have to preface it!

Anyway, I like the idea of structuring the transitions to flashbacks, and if it works to sprinkle them throughout then that ought to help this thing feel like a streamlined film should. Looking forward to it.
