Would it be that hard to transfer them to another disc, and make them anamorphic without loosing quality? If so... I guess these "awesome new DVDs" will be nothing more than new source material to work from.

I first recommend my own:
9000 Edits
Not to brag, but I think they're pretty good.
Then there's the quite popular ADigitalMan saga edit:
Digie Edits
If you ask me, there are too many unneeded deleted scenes put back in and not enough removed. But worth a look!
Then there's the most famous prequel edit thus far, Magnoliafan's version:
Flowerman's Spectacular
Absolutley stunning!

Nonetheless, a great trio of Star Wars coasters. At least they don't have the gawdy DVD cover designs on them.

And make sure to render them unusable before sending them in, or they'd just get resold probably. A scratch line across the disc will do the trick, as will a sharpie. I'm sure there are better methods, like cutting them halfway down with scissors.
And stop registering here for the sole purpose of raining on our parade. People who just joined after the announcement of the OOT release with ten or less posts usually do. Talk about complaining! Sheesh!

It's not like I don't already have a copy of the 2004 DVDs anyway. But I certainly don't need two.
This is a sweet idea. If Lucas is looking at this release to see what the demand for the OOT really is, this will definatley get the message across!

Excellent idea! I had forgotten, but I did the same thing when I sent in my faulty Back to the Future Parts II and III DVDs, so they couldn't re-sell them.
If anyone wants to send them back to Lucasfilm, do that too!

If they are indeed the same exact discs I already paid for in 2004, THEN I might consider something like that.
hehe, can you imagine this? Someone takes out the OOT DVDs from the '06 set and puts in a second copy of each '04 disc and takes it back to the store. Say you got a set with two of the same discs instead of the OOT. They take it back and give you another set. Now you have TWO sets of the OOT, and only one of the '04 set.

So that's why they shot open matte. They taped cardboard or something to the screens where the mattes would be, so they didn't actually shoot with the "fullscreen" version in mind, but filmed FOR the widescreen version. So widescreen is still the better way to go if you ask me. That's they way the shots were compiled, composited, and framed to be seen. In some films shot this way, you can see hanging boom mikes and other things like that in the open matte fullscreen version. In BTTF 2 in the fullscreen version, you can see the dolly that the Delorean is "flying" on when it is chasing Biff to get the Almanac back. This is an example of an unwanted bit of picture giving part of the movie away.
So if you ask me, widescreen is the best way to go. you can call the number and have them send you the new discs. I did. It's not a scam, and doesn't take very long. For nerds like us.

If you want to tell if you have V2 or not, put in part II. Go to the scene towards the beginning after they first 'land' in the future and Marty is changing clothes. Notice the shot where Marty says his jacket doesn't fit. When Doc reaches over and presses a button on it, you SHOULD be able to see his sleeves "adjust". If it looks like nothing happened, you have the flawed disc.
In Part III, go to where Marty first arrived in 1885 Hill Valley. Notice the shot after Marty accidentally jumps in horse crap, where he stands there for a second and it sinks in his shoes are stinky. If the poo reaches the end of the black bar, then the rest is cropped and you have the flawed disc. But if the poop is well in view, you're discs are allright.

Yes we just recently heard news of excellent new source material which will surely be better than any laserdisc tranfer can hope to be. But that is totally uncalled for! These people, along with all of us who attempted to tinker with the OT, believed that the OOT would never see the light of day again.
So they invested more money, time, and effort than anyone else here to try to obtain the best OOT transfer physically possible. And just because we hear the OOT is coming to DVD (with NO details yet), that does not automatically institute an immediate shutdown of their precious efforts!
I, for one, am still looking forward just as much to the XO project's final release. Who knows, it MAY still be necessary.

Episode I: Cloak of Deception
Episode II: The Approaching Storm
Episode III: Labyrinth of Evil
Named after their respective novels. Still don't want to change the titles, just wondered if there was any opinions.
