Once I get V4 of my cut of Ep2 uploaded, DrDre’s upscales that I used will be made available too.

I’ve been here pretty regularly since 2003, but never was a big frequenter of off topic. I guess I’m dangerously single-minded. But I agree off topic has been full of garbage lately, a lawless wasteland. It’s a place ruled by anarchy now, so we should get comfortable with chaos.

I like the screen name.
This was a pretty cool thread until about six minutes ago.
I’m encoding now, but have encountered a few technical issues getting the process to finish successfully. Still shouldn’t be over a week.
Sorry about the snarky gif.
Not quite yet. Should be finished and up either this week or next.
sorry if it was asked but how is v4 of approaching storm coming along.
Yes, we have indeed come a long way.

Thanks, MalàStrana, for sharing your family’s thoughts on seeing it. And I’d be glad to share your french subtitles too.
Little Nemo, thanks for your feedback as well. Not being able to hear discussion of Padme allowing the twins to be split up is a shortcoming of this approach. Assuming, as it seems clear Lucas did, that the audience is already familiar with the films that came out prior, we already know from Ben Kenobi that they were split up for their protection.
I would really have liked to have an establishing shot just before the roundtable discussion about the twins of Padme elsewhere on the ship.
Whales biologically jumping into hyperspace.
Why do I put myself through this? I just don’t want to miss anything big in my favorite fictional world.
Now now, children. Play nice.
No thanks.
yeah kid play nice
Not sure what clever gif to put in here, but this should become a thing we all say when Frink gets rambunctious.
Lapti Nek was the highlight for me. First time in my 33 years really “seeing” it. The detail is amazing!
Hear, hear. We have a beautiful home video release of Return of the Jedi now. It is qualitatively better than v1.0 because it’s more or less entirely HD material.
While I still doubt the effectiveness of trying to make the existing prequels into edits preserving OT surprises/structure, I will say this: Q2’s and AEmovieguy’s (and perhaps others’) edits of Episode III go a long way to undermine the rapidfire slideshow of morphing things into how they look in ANH.
Curious to hear more about your ideas.
“Sanded Down,” good one.
Space whales that organically jump into hyperspace as a biological process? I think I’ve finally found the point I stop watching altogether.
Man, little is right. Sounds like a small pop.
JEDIT: For clarification, this pop is audible in at least V3 (and probably V1 and V2 as well). It’s in my source file, being the DVD audio upsampled to lossless (to avoid generational loss when I synced it to the BR partway through production to save myself a heap of work).

All movie become subservient to needs of Star Wars.
Hal is the only one who properly implements the Palpatine Sith-reveal and also does everything else well. L8wrtr and Stanckpac implement it wrong
I don’t have a copy of L8wrtr’s edits on hand, but as far as I remember, mine and his were pretty close? Maybe?
In case it escapes notice while you’re here again, check your PMs.
No, just the NTSC DVDs that I have. Hadn’t even considered using the PAL.
I am so ready to do these in HD and BETTER but I’m super into reincorporating some of the deleted scenes that aren’t on the blu-rays and finding the best possible version of these for upscaling (namely PAL versions of the bonus materials) is a real stumbling block for me.
Hopefully in just a couple of weeks I can put out what I used for my edits (Episodes I and III upscaled by DrDre, II by me using similar methods).
Thanks very much. I’m obligated to insist that most of what I did was coalesce others’ prior ideas. But it’s always nice to hear the effort was worthwhile.
LOE is certainly a bolder edit than the other two, and mixing and matching my cuts of I and II with L8wrtr’s III is totally legit.
The points you two raise and more are addressed in the commentary, too. I did indeed try to mediate the earlier idea of Anakin’s turn by downplaying the role of his premonitions about Padme’s death, largely because she doesn’t die in my cut anyway.
I am of two minds regarding the Death Star scene. I’m erring on the side of caution, I guess. It’s not part of the story of the prequels, and only appears during the pre-ANH traileresque ending montage. (There’s no reason to involve Geonosis or Dooku; at least here it remains an Imperial project.) I prefer to have Coruscant, technically, but emotionally feel the Death Star is what gives the scene its weight.
However, anyone wanting to hack at my cuts to tweak to their liking, it’d be a quick fix.
