Star Wars Episode X: Fate Of The Jedi (title TBD)
Time

Just saying, that’s what my approach would render as a continuing main story, albeit likely way more of them than there’ll be films that do so.

Dark Empire’s a comic, so I didn’t consider it. Also… Dark Empire is full of silly ideas that I don’t like and don’t gel with what’s around it. (Like TROS!)

My point is that while I generally haven’t liked other projects giving “Episode _” to things like Rogue One, I feel differently about this movie and presumably others to come based on my suspicion that the reason LFL aren’t has to do with marketing or branding concerns rather than my own nerdy perspective on it. Marketing-wise, maybe it’d be embarrassing to put something out called “Star Wars - Episode XVII,” but as a nerd I’d have no problem with it if the story simply goes that far.

'Rey Skywalker' (Upcoming live action motion picture) - general discussion thread

https://variety.com/2023/film/news/daisy-ridley-rey-star-wars-new-movie-1235572603/

Recent unexpected announcement of a new film set fifteen years after the close of The Rise of Skywalker and the ‘Sequel Trilogy,’ featuring Daisy Ridley reprising her role as the heir to the Jedi and the Skywalker mantle.

From the article:
“Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced at Star Wars Celebration in London on Friday. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) will direct from a script by Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”). The film follows the events of “Rise of Skywalker,” and will focus on Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.”

Here’s what we end up with applying my logic for bestowing ‘Episode’ titles onto things, from the ol’ Legends/EU. Only include things that substantively forward the Skywalker story, and only things which at the time of their release are chronologically later than the latest “Episode.”

Thrawn Trilogy
Jedi Academy Trilogy
The Crystal Star
Corellian Trilogy
Thrawn Duology
New Jedi Order series
Dark Nest Trilogy
Legacy of the Force series
Fate of the Jedi series
Crucible

So, who knows? Maybe we’ll be at this for a while, despite TROS nominally being the end of the saga. But for now, I’ll enjoy looking forward and speculating about the movie itself, and let this thread lay fallow for the most part.

I see the logic like this. Take it for granted that they’ll never end up releasing anything titled “Episode 10” ever.

If they’d never made 7, 8, and 9, and all the Legends/EU novels were films instead, you could consider the Thrawn trilogy to be 7, 8, and 9. Anything that substantively advances the Skywalker story at the time of its release (it is set further ahead than anything else already reckoned as an “Episode”), would be considered the next “Episode.”

By this logic, the movies would have been:

Episode 7: Heir to the Empire
Episode 8: Dark Force Rising
Episode 9: The Last Command
Episode 10: Jedi Search
Episode 11: Dark Apprentice
Episode 12: Champions of the Force

Etcetera. But Truce at Bakura, or Courtship of Princess Leia? No dice, as at their release they were set prior to where we’d gotten up to.

Presumably they won’t make nearly as many movies about the Skywalkers in this way as they published novels.

Even if there aren’t, and I’m sure there’ll be more than just this movie that takes place afterward which substantively deals with the outflowing of the Skywalker saga (which now includes Rey) in the future, Episode X seems logical to stick on this one from what we know so far.

It’d certainly be cool to eventually have a 10, 11, and 12. But we’d need films that are very much integral to the Skywalker thread or line, which Rey now intrinsically is. A Poe movie wouldn’t cut it, but one which largely only features Rey as a returning presence would seem to.

General film discussion thread, for non-fan-edit-related discussion: https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Rey-Skywalker-Upcoming-live-action-motion-picture-general-discussion-thread/id/103921/page/1#1532655

With the recent unexpected announcement of a film featuring Rey Skywalker set fifteen years after The Rise of Skywalker which will focus on her efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order, I feel warranted in creating this project thread. I’m being a little snarky in doing so, but even though we know extremely little about this film I already have a central idea.

This movie appears to be suited for a title prefix of “Episode 10” in substance. It’s a major motion picture about what happens to the chief character of the prior trilogy. From a marketing perspective, LFL likely does not want to remain beholden to these episode numbers. But from an old-school nerd perspective, giving it this title would seem appropriate.

So one thing I would hope to do is add a proper opening and title crawl to consider it an Episode X, as well as working in any trappings of the main saga films that could be missing, such as potentially needing to add some traditional Williams-esque score or optical wipe transitions. I would also plan to release a version that makes whatever changes are made, but which does not wrap the film in the ‘Episode X’ title. (If this film doesn’t have a Wilhelm scream, by God we’ll add one.)

Part of the reason I am making this thread is to selfishly claim a spot in hopefully managing another collaborative project. Or at worst, foment productive discussion toward such a project even if someone else helms it by that point in the indeterminate, you-never-know-what-life-will-throw-at-you future.

Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Released)

I recently gave TAS its absolute final update so I am fully finished with that project and have no intention of revising it further.

COD may or may not get one last spruce up and there’s a couple of those bits and pieces I’d reinstate but nothing major that substantially changes the edit.

And as I mentioned above I’m planning to revise the alternate version of LOE but not the main version. LOE has always been a more different cut from the original than the other to prequels, and so it’s the one least likely to please most people.

And at this point the Hal9000 prequel edits have become enough of a thing that changing them to a large degree would be unfair. Also, you gotta keep in mind that I’ve been fucking around off and on for a total range of years from 2004 to the present. Once this batch of small updates takes place I’m going to publicly swear off touching these three again.

I added Yoda going to Dagobah in order to fix a gap left by removing the funeral. With the funeral being part of the alternate version I feel the ending is better without adding Yoda.

And Obi-Wan knowing that Vader is Anakin’s Sith name is part of the Kenobi show. Me removing that mention doesn’t alter that.

I’m not revising LOE overall, just the alternate version.

Could he say, in response to being asked who he is, “I had hoped you would tell me!”

The only other line that would really be good to have is something to fit after “What a dreadful situation,” where we currently have “Where is an R2 unit when you need one,” which has sound effects over top. For this one, what about “I don’t think I’m programmed to be a mechanic.”
