Hmmm. It’s far from necessary, to my mind, but its not a bad idea. Let me see how it looks with a zoom applied.

The galaxy is in peril.
Far from the worlds
of the New Republic,
a sinister FIRST ORDER
is building a weapon that
can devour an entire star.Haunted by visions of
this devastating weapon,
the disgraced General
Leia Organa mobilizes
a covert Resistance in
an attempt to stave off
this impending disaster. While on a daring mission,
her most trusted pilot has
found a clue to the location
of Leia’s long-lost brother,
the last of the Jedi Knights
and their only hope against
the evil First Order…
I like this one a lot better. I suggest changing it to “entire stars” at the end of the first paragraph. Also changing “weapon” to “power” & “stave off” back to “forestall” or even “thwart.” “Disaster” implies Leia foreknows a specific event, perhaps reword to “threat” or something.
Third paragraph could begin with, “On a daring mission to a distant world…”
EDIT: Posting whole crawl for effect:

As we look to Ridley retiming additional shots that had to be slowed down using his technological alchemy, we should take a look at the Starkiller explosion scene. Any shots between, “It is time to complete his training” and the shot of the Falcon and X-wings where they formerly jumped to lightspeed are potentially slowed down very slightly. NeverarGreat carefully matched the necessary length of the music track.
Personally, I would prefer having the shots be slowed over not having them at all. Seeing the pilots’ reactions to Starkiller base firing, seeing the people in the Resistance control room, etc. is all critical to the emotion in the scene. For the last part, when the Falcon flies away, I had no issue with that whatsoever. I would rather have the slowness than not have the scenes.
Absolutely. I was not suggesting removing any of the shots, just that they be given the Ridley alchemy treatment as well as the SKB firing scene.
Yeah, it’s weird to say, “There’s no way that will happen,” and then have it happen abruptly at the end, especially when that is all that was needed to resolve the macguffin.
Well, the light coming on is at least connecting Threepio’s weird line to the actual thing that happens at the end. That’s the idea anyway, an elegant, simple solution that does not involve much modification of the original film.
Nice.
I haven’t updated that scene yet, so the latest version is still on the Starlight page:

I’m totally OK with this. Hope it will make it into v2.1 😃
It’s a great mockup, but it doesn’t feel genuine to me. Seems like it carries a bit of ‘liability’ for the payoff of not having heard from the Republic. Leia sends her envoy to them a few scenes ago to speak to them in person. Threepio’s line seems to only add confusion. I think this is probably better omitted, though I like the idea in principle, save for Threepio’s line.
One more suggestion: What about removing 3POs line “It is very doubtful that R2 has the map in his backup data?” I never liked that line considering that R2 in fact has the map in his backup data. And with R2 starting to wake up after BB-8 talked to him, I don’t think this line is needed at all.
You’ve just described V1 and the reasoning behind it. What’s different now is that R2 begins indexing his hard drive, prompted by this conversation.

EDIT: I posted this comment before seeing ChainsawAsh’s. Thanks for the feedback, it’s very nice to hear that this is being enjoyed. I’m real proud of the final product, and really will be once we get it produced. 😉
Let us know what your family thinks of it. Especially if there are any strong fans of TFA whom are very familiar with it.

What’s your point?
I think it was about placing oneself into the prequels with FX work.
GTFO!!
Touché.
Nev, might you post a clip of what you’ve got at this point for that, for consideration?
EDIT: Great minds post at exactly the same time.
I had to pull a Jyn Erso and jet after mashing the button so try again in about 20 minutes. 😃
The 720p is available in the same places. Due to a hard time crunch on my end for today it is missing 5.1 audio and subtitles.
I’m also not doing a DVD version for V2.
However, all these wrongs will be righted in V2.1 once time is back on our side. 😃
I’m hoping we can finish that by the end of the year. That would be wonderful for me and my stress level, and I don’t see why we couldn’t.
Got it, NeverarGreat, thanks!
People, your challenge for the day is to pull up the scene where the tech guy tells Hux the weapon will be fully charged in 30 seconds, taking in his voice. Then, record yourself saying, “Weapon reprimed in 30 seconds” at least twenty times and send it to me. I mean you.
Here’s a clip with foley for 3PO, harvested from good ol’ Revenge of the Sith.

Why am I still in this thread? I just scrolled super slowly and carefully. If you see me in here again, tell me to GTFO
I just watched the original TFA with my 60-year old father (because I haven’t made Finnish subtitles for Restructured yet). After the movie I showed him why this edit was made. He agreed that we will be watching Restructured from now on because it seems to make a bit more sense, haha! I also pointed out to him that Leia ignores Chewie when they return from SKB and he got a little pissed after realizing it (read: cannot unsee). 😄
Awesome. And, again, my hope for this project is to preserve the experience of TFA as much as possible while making this single (or two or three) alterations. I will join you in hating that, though!
And if you end up doing Finnish subtitles, let me know and I’d be happy to include them for V2.1.
My only quirks with it that I felt could use a couple changes…
Some of the dialogue is a little quiet with the new music additions. Specifically, I only found two places this was the case:
- When Han says, “Where’d you get that?” in Maz’s castle when she hands out the lightsaber.
- In the new Snoke scene after Han’s death when he says, “Prepare the weapon.”
Maybe just duck the music down slightly? Other than that, I think this seemed great.
I think for the Maz scene it would have let the original music be audible. (I got the audio fully baked from Ridley, but I assumed that was the reason so I did not ask.)
I also got the Snoke audio from Ridley fully prepared, but I believe it would be too jarring to fade the audio in after that point rather than when it begins.
NeverarGreat, I will take a listen to the R2 scene at the end.
Here’s a test of my voice. Anyone who would like, record yourself saying this 30 times and upload yours! Winner gets nothing. 😉

Yeah, Adywan must have prepared it to fit his universal template. When I saw the suggestion about the opening music in the first place, I planned to just generate an alternate audio track while I was at it, but found them not to be in sync.
Oh, I won’t begin exporting V2.1 until after I’ve seen Episode 8 for certain, even if it were all ready to go.
And… we do see the Sun being drained completely as they are having their conversation, so I don’t think it’s a problem we don’t see the Resistance chiming in about it. I hear what you’re saying, but there’s no obvious solution and I think it’s okay.
Seems like the sort of thing that, if this version were what was released, I would not be surprised to hear, “We filmed a scene that was supposed to go here of the Resistance being worried, but we cut it because it detracted from the unhurried sequence between Solo and Kylo Ren.”
The 720p encode just finished aaaand… it’s unusable. And, to boot, the encoded DVD video stream just… isn’t anywhere to be found. I exported it to my Desktop as always, and it’s just… not there. I have no answer.
I’m going to reencode the 720p version using Apple’s Compressor in the hopes that it bypasses whatever is causing the problem, since V2.1 will be the permanent one before too long. Would anyone be devastated if I skipped a DVD release for V2.0, given that it would be Monday at the earliest before such a version became available?
I’d recommend finding a voice over artist on Fiverr.
You know you can’t trust those little freaks!
Ah, gotcha. I thought you had a particular guy in mind that I was expected to pick up on. I might try recording lines anyway, channeling all those vaguely European sounding Imperial douchebags.
EDIT: Although I could go for: “Weapon reprimed to shoot them a second time.” (Imagine the most exaggerated stereotypical French accent possible, by John Cleese.)
If I were to host a marathon for mixed company this year, which I’m not:
Clone Wars microseries
Labyrinth of Evil
Rogue One
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens Restructured
Yourself? It’s early in the morning and I didn’t get much sleep. You’re gonna have to pretty much spell it out for me while I brew some coffee.
And I’m in favor of giving V2.1 the fast track so I can put it to rest well ahead of immanent major things I’m gonna need to be focused on. There’s only a small amount for us to do. Then… it’ll be a 30GB gem that’ll hold value for a long time. Thanks in advance.
Exactly. And… are you alluding to Sir Ridley? I’d love for it to be one of us here who has helped.
