I think Palpatine is a hologram within a hologram as Anakin phones him from the Temple.
I think Palpatine is a hologram within a hologram as Anakin phones him from the Temple.
I haven’t seen or read GoT, but could someone draw a rough analogy using Star Wars to describe what about the show seems to have gone wrong? No spoilers, so the analogy should be indirect. (I.e., not just swapping character names.)
Here’s a new version of this scene, with the music in much better shape. I used left and right channels to fill in the center whenever there is no dialogue or non-traffic foley, in order to only have one innocuous crossfade of the musical score. Sounds much better.

Damn, you’re right about those two audio issues, Mala. That’s unnerving. I guess that alone merits fixing. Thanks for letting me know about those.
I noticed the end credits glitch a while ago, and when I did [Tourette’s Guy] I said, “Shit.” [/Tourette’s Guy]
I’m afraid I am not having any luck with removing Palpatine’s lines about the Jedi killing “all the senators” and Anakin believing the Jedi will move against the Senate. The rear channels are free of dialogue… some of the time, but not during a critical shot. The music playing at that point does not appear on the soundtrack, either. I can’t do anything further than I already have with that conversation without making a big mess out of the music. Hopefully in this version we can somewhat believe that Anakin is choosing to believe these things about the Jedi.
About “General Skywalker.” That title is nowhere in the films and, while it’s plausible, I just don’t see benefit in tossing it in there. It’s appropriate for Anakin to be something of “the learner” and Anakin moves along in this film as someone deeply accustomed to be something of a slave. He and Obi-Wan are both knights, but he’s certainly newer at it.
Anakin having a padawan of his own prior to Episode III never felt right to me, personally.
That’s a great look for Jakku, makes it stand out somewhat. Great job!
Angel sent me this (not his work):
What were Mala’s additions to TAS?

And have you ever entertained the thought of releasing the new versions of the crawls with their original titles?
Ridley would be the only one who could do that. If he would like to that’s up to him. I can see how some people would like to have them that way.
Your ideas and work on Ep3 are exceptional, and they serve your goals very well. They’re just not precisely my goals here.
I believe you used the violin-ish first part of “Anakin’s Dream” to restore Anakin and Padme’s First meeting, right? I like how the latter part of the track faintly echoes Schmi’s funeral and I think I’ll try to find a spot in the movie to work it in.
I seem to recall asking in the past, but I don’t remember what ever came of it, but do you still have the audio you used to give Anakin and Padmé some chuckles before their sunset argument?
Another thing about that: having a gentler, fainter version of Obi-Wan as the critical mentor provides a sense of continuity between films. They’re the same characters and, while they’ve grown, can still harken back to where they started. There needs to be some sort of reminder about that to help fuel Anakin getting fed up with him on Mustafar. “Don’t lecture me, Obi-Wan!”
Does that jive with TCW? Not really, even if it is a better take on these characters. But it does work better as follow-up to Episode II, which is what’s most important.
And hey, Mala already expressed interest in updating the alternate audio tracks, so that ought to be to the liking of anyone desiring these sorts of adjustments.
Hmmmmmmmm… I cannot promise anything, but it miiiiight be worth reissuing TAS, even if I don’t change anything, just to include Mala’s audio tracks in the main release. I’ll have to think about this; it’s never a trivial amount of work.
I’d rather not introduce the title of General into the film for him, I think. I’m also okay with Anakin referring to Obi-Wan as ‘Master’ a few times as a term of endearment and respect, since it’s clear he isn’t formally his padawan anymore.
I would do myself a favor by perusing NFBism’s cutlist, for certain. However, IDGAF about The Clone Wars, so there’ll be no “General Skywalker” or anything like that. (It’s just soooo ugly to watch.)
I’m always gratified to hear TAS being well received! It’s the only one of the three I’m not planning to give a V6.
Thanks for the feedback! I could always omit the tongue gag in Watto’s shop but keep it in the dinner scene.
Weird for clones who all have the same accent as their genetic host whom they presumably did not spend the majority of their time around. 😉
Do you think that if you decided to use this, you’d have someone talented with visual effects add Anakin’s scar to the other side of his face?
Hmmm, try this one: https://vimeo.com/336120650
Here’s another attempt, with score from the soundtrack used to roughly sync with Anakin’s shot without getting unwanted sound effects.

Thanks! I just need the TPM deleted scenes. You could reseed the myspleen torrent, unless RogueLeader also wants to get them.
I’m thinking particularly of Sebulba flashing his vents toward Anakin, to tie into the earlier mention of this, but am unsure if the quality difference will allow it.
Does anybody still have the upscaled deleted scenes DrDre did a few years ago? (They were part of the ‘prequel fan editing care package.’
I have the scenes I previously used as ProRes, but I don’t see to still have the original mkvs of all of them. I would like to potentially look at various podrace snippets, but don’t have it. If anyone still has those mkvs, please PM me.
Excited that a V6 of this is happening. Would be interesting to see a workprint. Moving the ‘Plot to destroy the Jedi’ scene seems like it might address some of the issues I have with flow in that part of the edit.
I agree it flows much better now. The scene now takes the place of Anakin’s counseling session with Yoda.
I’d love to see you reinstate some of the Yoda/Palpatine fight, mainly just to break up the fight on Mustafar. But I know you have your reasons for cutting it.
Yeah. LOE has sort of an ‘Alien 3’ vibe to it: depressing. But, it still has some levity and gentle humor throughout. But LOE has a consistent tone which Yoda vs. Sidious would shatter. I do enjoy the sequence, but only because I can’t take it seriously and have to check out of Star Wars to do so IMHO.
Could you revisit the vocal pitch effects on the Battle Droid that says “hands up Jedi”? I get that you’re trying to make him sound less squeaky, but right now his voice sounds audibly deeper than any other battle droid in these films.
I actually lifted a snippet of audio from ADigitalMan’s edit. I’m fine with it as it is, if only as an homage to my forebears.
Here’s a weird potential idea. What do you think of making the brief “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” Millennium Falcon cameo look more like it’s appearance in Solo?
There’s nothing in the text of the film to suggest it’s actually the Falcon. It’s just some YT-whatever model freighter, as far as I’m concerned. The fact that Solo altered its appearance before ANH only reinforces this.
Thanks for the feedback and ideas. 😃
And I’m not really feeling the super short ‘Anakin in the Temple’ scene; it’s seems just too short to feel legitimate. But, I will try to work on the music and make my best attempt before giving up on it.
^ Fair; I posted a clip because I wasn’t sold on it myself. I finessed the audio to be fairly smooth, but the pacing of such a short two shots feels abrupt, even for ROTS.
Here’s a test of the idea for showing a closeup of Anakin looking over the slaughter in the Temple. Please take a careful listen to the audio if you can, and let me know what you think.

I don’t think the apartment scene works (the one where Anakin ‘feels lost’) for this edit. For one thing, the nightmare Anakin has is explicitly related to death during childbirth, whereas in LOE so far he’s only had one vague nightmare/premonition.
If this were an edit in which Padme dies, I would agree that immediately after the third ‘seeds of rebellion’ scene is the best place for it.
Yeah, that double has always looked like someone wearing a Van Helsing Halloween mask.
I hadn’t realized the insensitive timing to bring up removing Chewie. I agree that one could get out of the theater having seen this and never know it was Chewie. I’ll see if anyone ends up producing anything to help mask him, though, as that’d be nice. If not for the Holiday Special, it’d be fun to consider this Chewie’s father.
