Small details that took you FOREVER to notice in the Star Wars films
Time

It seems like Lucas overdubbed basically anybody who was British (except Alec Guinness) in the first film. Though somehow General Tagge survived. Maybe because his working-class East End voice didn’t sound like a stereotypical upper-class Brit.

Probably it was Irvin Kershner on ESB who decided to let the Imperials use their natural British accents, for the American Revolution symbolism. Lucas, by contrast, thought of the Empire as more like modern-day America, so most likely he wasn’t the one who came up with that.

That’s very interesting. I hadn’t ever considered that, and it makes good sense.

The Last Jedi: Rekindled (Released)

I think what is there would make a perfectly fine addition to your edit, given that you had already removed the Phasma fight.
It’s obviously a bit subtle, though, and ‘January 2018 me’ would probably have found it a little annoying that it was. FWIW. But again, adding this doesn’t hurt anything about your edit and makes removing the Phasma fight a better option than before.

Best viewing order to introduce Star Wars to children?
Time

Hmmm… if it were me and a set of a few 7-10 year olds, I guess I’d plan on this:

Introduce the original 1977 SW (ANH), allowing any desired rewatches. Let it sit there a while, maybe a month or two. Use your OOT preservation of choice.

Introduce ESB likewise, letting it breathe before adding more. Let them wonder a bit. Again, OOT preservation of choice.

While the ‘Liar Obi-Wan Order’ has merit and can be fun, I think a 9-part saga is better paced by keeping trilogies from interrupting each other. So, I’d just go onto ROTJ next in the same way. Let it breathe, use OOT. If the kids like to read, maybe introduce Shadows of the Empire somewhere between ESB and ROTJ, if you want.

Then I’d introduce your preferred version of Episode I, maybe digging out the old N64 and playing Ep1 Racer. Feel free to introduce any EU material (Legends or Canon) you like in this and the following eras.

Then I’d do the same for Episode II. Afterward, I’d want to introduce the Clone Wars Microseries, the ‘Samurai Jack’ style one. Again, feel free to introduce any books you’d like. Or the CGI Clone Wars show, too.

Same story for Episode III.

Maybe introduce Rebels.

I’d schedule a set of viewings to lead up to moving into the sequel trilogy. This would consist of:

 • Episode I
 • Episode II
 • (Clone Wars Microseries, if desired, maybe split in two, part one after Ep2 and part two before Ep3)
 • Episode III
 • Rogue One
 • ANH (A fan edited SE version)
 • ESB (A fan edited SE version)
 • ROTJ (A fan edited SE version)

Then I’d introduce TFA, TLJ, and TROS the same way I have the prior moves. (Ran out of time to type on my phone.)

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)
Time

I find myself genuinely surprised at how well changing Vader’s line to Luke in ROTJ to, “Your mother once thought as you do” works. This is due largely to the audio work Sir Ridley and others have brought to bear. I’m not 100% sure, but I imagine it would be worth making at least an alternate audio track for a ROTJ project.

Here’s how the best version so far, from Sir Ridley, sounds when fully baked in. I included a few lines from Vader before and afterward. What do you all think about potentially going this route? Content-wise, it seems to be a meaningful alteration, given that this is a fan project which does not threaten the availability of the OOT. Padme beckons Anakin in ROTS, now Luke echoes this.

Star Wars: The Coaxium Heist (COMPLETED)
Time

Just left a review over at IFDB:

"I finally got around to giving this edit a watch, and I was not disappointed. I haven’t given this film the same sort of close look I have to the saga films, and remember my three previous viewings as somewhat ho-hum. I really enjoyed it this time around, with DigMod’s edit flashing across my screen. In fairness, it might be partly due to having given Solo a rest and returning later with fresh eyes. It wasn’t until I read the cutlist that I started to remember bits and pieces that he had removed seamlessly.

If you’d have asked me, I would have told you I didn’t think optical wipe transitions would have been necessary, and I don’t think they are, but they really did feel nice to have. The visual work that (I’m told, because I sure wouldn’t have noticed) was necessary in a few places was seamless, as was 100% of the audio work. I listened on a good (stereo) system and noticed no issues, and I’m somewhat of a stickler on that stuff. I wonder if it would have been better to allow the “we’ll have you flying in no time” gag to remain since the added optical wipe transition there does not allow for any new material to be seen.
The opening ‘Fox’ fanfare and SW opening crawl worked better than I thought they would, though I would still prefer if the same content were presented with the blue ALTAIAGFFA text. Just a personal preference; the editor’s intentions are implemented effectively.

The film doesn’t feel edited at all, apart from the opening crawl. I appreciate giving the implication that Han came up with the ‘Solo’ surname himself, rather than a hokey moment in which an Imperial officer assigns it to him. In the new canon, we know Solo was an improvised name anyway, so this change almost certainly won’t be sniped by any future Star Wars works. Removing the Maul cameo was much appreciated, and removes a serious WTF moment many audience members had who hadn’t cared to venture deep into what I still consider to be rather ugly cartoons. L3 wasn’t nearly as annoying this time around, though there were only a few moments I consciously noted had been removed as I was watching, the remainder going undetected.

I was genuinely surprised at the extent to which I enjoyed my viewing experience, and it seems this edit is greater than the sum of its individual trims. Fantastic work; it makes me glad that I don’t have to trudge into the muck of this film myself. Very, very well done."

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

Another version. I think it sounds a bit better.

Perhaps this is good enough, I don’t want to take over the thread with mother-edits when we don’t even know if Adywan is interested.

I think that’s great, though the “mother” portion seems to have less body than the rest of the sentence.

If Adywan does happen to chime in to express disinterest in this for his edit, feel free to move it to my ‘Custom SE’ thread. 😃
