I was thinking Rey would be most appropriate.
OK, so you are suggesting altering the entire frame rather than just Han himself?
It seems like, the presence of Han aside, he really is in that place. A fly on the wall would still see Ben saying those things and making those motions.
Regardless, I don’t imagine such a thing being an improvement. I like it the way it is without some sort of effect applied.
If you were to go that route, you could do something like Neverar did and have some kind of filter on the scene to have a “dream-like” feel to it. It does not have to be super strong, something subtle could be done maybe?
That’s what I get for trying to check in on this thread from my phone when I had a minute to spare during the day. Didn’t see it.
I think that final scene need to remain as is, dubious though it may be. I think it’d have been a more powerful moment if they’d stuck with Rey Nobody.

I don’t have a problem with it at all. Force ghosts look bluish, glowy, and translucent. Han looks like how Ben remembers him. The scene plays out without some sort of distracting visual cue. I don’t know what one could even do that wouldn’t be inferred by some that he is a literal ghost.
Who knows how many of these changes I’ll end up doing; it probably won’t be drastically different. But if there’s enough interest I could probably re-host V2.1 as the purist edition.
Memory from two viewings, wookiepedia plot summary, and details people remind me of as we go.
Regardless, it is inevitable that there be several ideas generated by the community the day it would even be possible to begin editing. And my life is impossibly cramped for any time to break away to be able to sit at my computer with any real focus, so this project might be start-and-go, maximizing go-time by planning out what to try other times. (Lots of phone time, little computer time.)
It’ll happen, but I won’t have as much time as I’d like to get it done. Partly because of this, I’m hoping it’ll have a nice gestation period and maybe multiple workprints before releasing, to avoid having to do a version 2. And if it’s a good, somewhat conservative edit, others can always take it and run further.
Fair points, especially that last one; hadn’t considered that. I’ll have to consider that as I mock it up.
Eddy, do you have any specific ideas about the crawl? I like what we have now, but would hear you out.
I feel like this edit ought to have a title more like your other two for a nice match set.
Well, this title happened organically without thought of Eps 8 or 9 needing any work, and I’d hate to change it now. Would be confusing.
I agree with all the proposed changes, as long as you keep version 3.0 available. That way you have a purist version for people who prefer only minor changes, and a radical version for people who prefer radical changes.
Are there any specific changes you personally would want omitted from a single ‘desert island’ version?
What is that, part of that new ride?
I won’t, but I could easily retitle this edit “Revenge of the Sith” or “The Phantom Menace.”
It’s still available via torrents, but I don’t have the space to host multiple versions. 😦
Sounds like i’ll proceed with the list of changes outlined, but I’ll leave the chess table alone.
Makes sense; it swaps the faces but it doesn’t necessarily have a deep understanding.
Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope.

You guys have been coming out of the woodwork lately. Enjoy.
Thank you for your continuous work and your amazing edits.
I would like to ask if there is a chance we will see the TLJ:L on 4K, or even other of your edits, now that 4K editions are coming on March from Disney?
From TFA:R thread:
And no, none of my edits will ever surpass 1080p BluRay spec for a host of reasons.
If anyone would ever like to attempt it, feel free to lay my lossless audio output and a proxy rip of the video streams into an editor and recreate the video in 4K or whatever. But I cannot, due to technical limitations and much of the source material being sourced from 1080p and 480p. The entire saga is being mastered at 1080p with 5.1 DTS and that’s as far as I can take things.
Yes, as much as I appreciate NeverAr’s Version of the climax, I agree that there is merit in the one used for this project so I don’t plan on changing it or anything.
I can leave the holochess alone.
Here’s everything I’m thinking about for V4. Please let me know if any of these register as undesirable, as I’m sensitive to this edit being a true ‘disc replacement’ for many, and I don’t want to intrude on that. So I’m hoping to stick mostly to near-consensus changes. Some of these audio-only changes can just get an alternate track, like adding Palpatine to the vision.
Ideas:
Add subtle Emperor’s theme to the shot of Vader’s helmet, likely Ridley’s clip
Make that one X-wing firing on a TIE on Takodana sound like the trailer’s version
Add “(Find me.) It is unavoidable. It is your destiny” to the Force vision.
Maybe add Palpatine telling Rey “kill him” when she beats Kylo, which is an internal voice she hears in the novelization (though likely not intended to be Palpatine per se).
Attempt to reinstate Han’s no-look shot with an added “huh” afterward.
Experiment with replacing a few of the native bird sounds on Ach-To with porg sounds

From NeverAr’s Starlight edit workprint:
May as well make it look like Finn wakes up at or just before dawn after crashing on Jakku.
Removed Han’s somewhat kindly “come on outta there,” leaving directional nod only.
Could remove Han tossing the guy to the rathtar but leave the punch.
Remove the holochess table coming on.
Have Snoke stand up while saying “so,” removing a continuity error from TFA:R
Add Rey separated from Finn on Han’s freighter to her Force vision. Nice ‘whole buffalo’ approach.
Use shot of sunlight being absorbed by the thing and Kylo watching right before “remove these restraints.” I think this can be done without reordering scenes. If so, then great; if not, oh, well.
I will play with the idea of Poe ordering a retreat which explains why they are in space later in the battle, but I think it would require reordering scenes and jettisoning other things, so this one is unlikely.
If Deepfakes were easy to do, which they’re not, I think it’d be fun to try them on as many continuity variables as possible. Make Hayden look like Shaw and vice versa, etc.
One thing I’ve wondered about Deepfakes… is it possible to apply them at 50% so that someone looks halfway between themselves and someone else, or is it all or nothing?

I don’t imagine that being a thing I would be able to do in even a rudimentary way, but it’s an interesting idea.
