It can look like this
It can look like this
Well we won’t rush him though.
Especially after sitting through a marathon of Episodes 1 through 8 beforehand.
Wowee, that’s good! Not done yet, but what an idea.
Showing all four again might work, but I know the rumors had Luke and Leia appearing in that moment in particular, empowering their respective sabers, in a way. Might that be good to test out too?
Wonderful.
Skenera, thank you. There may be a small bit of work yet if ghosts are added to a few shots, but this is a very welcome change. It makes more of a difference than I thought it would when it was first brought up.
I like the color, it doesn’t have to be identical to Windu’s.
I reckon. Do they look that different?
Hard to argue with that. It’d be very ‘Thrawn Duology.’
Wow, hmm. That’d have been a great idea in the writing phase, while keeping most else about the movie as is.
And, RogueLeader, yes! That sounds very plausible to accomplish (easy for me to say), and fills in a much needed gap. In the theater I quipped to my brother that Mace Windu should have grabbed a second lightsaber and ended it right then. As if that was the mistake.
Letting the Skywalkers band together to do Palpatine in would feel better and tie into the ending and title. If Rey is basically on a journey to wrap up the Skywalker story rather than really further her own, as seems inescapable, this at least makes something of this scene.
Man, give Daisey a post-TROS Disney+ series. Continue the story, because the sequel trilogy now feels like it was all setting something up, not concluding what came before. If they’re deliberate about moving beyond the Skywalker stuff, let Rey’s story keep going. And we could probably craft a fake Episodes X, XI, and XII out of it.
It was in snooker’s thread, but he mocked up adding Theed to the horizon, adding the Gungan head statues into the background, and maybe even ducks. Sound design can be overlaid to some exterior scenes. Maybe add one or two gungan extras to the briefing.
So it’s not a sure thing but he’s presented a compelling proof of concept for a plausible idea.
Here’s a question (from the color blind guy)
As for Palps getting electrocuted (again) but this time explodes … I was thinking, what if the lighting going BACK to him is a different color, maybe purple? White?
Why?
Though it is still kinda lame, in a sense, that Palps AGAIN gets defeated by his own lighting. But what if it was more “special” … or maybe Jedi-powered. Using Jonh’s force ghosts being introduced, the view COULD assume it was being returned with more of a Jedi Ghost finisher. I don’t know if that sounds lame or anything … but it would be neat to try and add some more depth to this final battle then Palps getting zapped by his own lighting. Again.
I like it. Or the room could go dark and then reveal he was nonexistent the whole time!
Well… no.
Oh, what about slightly yellow? If Rey’s lightning that kills Chewbacca were yellowish, then the Palpy killing lightning is yellowish, her yellow saber would signify an integration of her inner darkness while distancing herself from what was written as a link to Palpatine.
(And we still need that slight crackle between his fingertips in the opening sequence removed. Not because it’s technically a problem, but I can’t help but feel it’s there to link hand lightning with Palpatine’s subtly before we see Rey use it later.)
Lol, snooker was gonna do Coruscant to replace Endor, which is seen earlier now. So it’d be a planet from each trilogy.
I don’t remember but he customized things heavily.
After Palpatine bids Kylo to “become what [his] grandfather, Vader, could not,” would it work to cut to the original last shot of the scene?
There’d be more time for a wipe transition, and it’d imply Palpatine arrogantly things he’s “got” him, like he has the hooks in his jaw ala Anakin in ROTS, but with a touch of being off the money ala Luke in ROTJ.
Hal, Dom, everyone… I’m about to release a workprint of my edit, TROS: Resurgence. But I need help with generating the opening crawl. Is there some kind soul on the forum who already has something like an After Effects template loaded and could render it?
Sir Ridley did the ultimate crawls for my prequels and TFA. And they’re perfect in every way.
For a not-perfect-but-still-great approach, smudger9 released a template project for FCPX.
And Jackpumpkinhead did a blender template.

I just realized. When the saber flies into Rey’s hand, it’ll be that much more satisfying to visibly be Leia’s, right after we hear her very first posthumous word.
Resistance headquartered on Naboo, the Death Star wreckage on Endor, Leia having a purple blade, Jedi ghosts joining the fight, Rose’s theme bringing some resonance to Finn, and other things. None of these “solve” issues with the movie, but each are great to see. This is gonna be special, and hopefully a good note for this interpretation of the saga to go out on.
The shitty thing is that no matter what we can change or alter with this film, there’s no way we can really give Rose more of a presence, without any deleted scenes. Rose goes from a prominent character with her own theme in the last film, to a background extra in the last film.
But… this conversation did give me an idea for one small change. For awhile I’ve had this idea of altering the scene between Finn and Jannah, and replace a part of Finn’s schpiel about the Force to something about joining the fight. Basically, we want to get the idea across that Finn is recruiting Jannah to join the cause by sharing how he had his own change of heart in the last two films. It would be nice if we could rescore the last half of that scene, and replace the overused Force motif with Rose’s theme, instead. So the conversation would go something like:
Finn: The Force. The Force brought me here. Brought me to Rey and Poe. We need to stop the First Order. I wasn’t sure then, but I am now.
Maybe you could change it some more, but if you can change the context of the scene to make it seem like Finn is convincing Jannah to stop hiding on Endor and join the fight, with Rose’s theme playing over it, we can feel Rose’s presence and impact on the story more, even if she doesn’t have much screen time herself.
Here is that scene for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jRscLcf3bA
Is there dialogue already of Finn saying “We need to stop the First Order” that you have in mind?
Fair enough. I’d be happy with a 40ish Hayden! Pretend like he actually filmed. With or without his long hair.
I’d like to see every character ever portrayed two different ways be DeepFaked.
Lol. “We’ve been expecting you.”
I’d support that, too.
It would at least nod to a potential answer to where the hell everyone came from.
Have you thought about trimming the scene of Rey killing Palpatine? Maybe to make it seem as if Rey deflects the lightning very quickly so that he barely has a chance to react. Just something to keep someone from complaining that he could’ve stopped using lightning, and hopefully make him seem less dumb. Just an idea that could work.
No, I haven’t. I think for a dramatic climactic moment the way it is works fine, and I don’t think shortening it would be a positive change. At least, in the NLE inside my brain.
Ah, thanks. Yeah, it’d be a subtle difference when mixed into the scene but I’d feel a little better for it.
EDIT: Now just give him Shaw’s combover. Just kidding.
Or am I?
Even though it’s been all I can do lately to check in once or twice a day here and push words around, it makes me happy to have such wonderful ideas and help with this.
We’re gonna pilot this thing to victory.
