When the DSII’s throne room door opens for Rey, she says, “The door opens.”
When the DSII’s throne room door opens for Rey, she says, “The door opens.”
I think Luke’s line “because you’re a Palpatine” makes it worthwhile to retain Kylo’s line “You are a Palpatine.”
This was my SUPER rough idea with the Sith Whisper stuff I was working on:

What’s the source for those whispers? They sound more similar to the ones Rey hears when the door opens in the DSII throne room. Not to mention that they are feminine, and better able to tap into her inner conflict.
Poppasketti sent me this link, but the whispers used don’t have to come from there.
Feel free to mock any of this up, as that sounds like some tricky audio work. One would have to re-foley the whole environment.
It sounds like it’d be pretty noisy to have increasing whispers. I imagine it being better to just have a few occasional whispers just enough to make the connection.
There isn’t usable footage for all that, and I don’t think adding more sound effects beyond the whispers would help.
Watching the workprint something was off about Palpatine’s first line of ‘Find me’
Yeah, I lowered the volume substantially on it so it’s almost subliminal.
And yeah, I’m happy we could castrate the knife.
There isn’t usable footage for all that, and I don’t think adding more sound effects beyond the whispers would help.
The second whisper is definitely an improvement! The ONE thing that could make this great (which may not work) is if you could smash cut to the throne for a split second, then a just-as-quick close-up of Rey’s face (if she has a surprised look anywhere during this scene that could be zoomed in on) and then the horses show up
If only. I can take a look again later but I really doubt it.
Here’s another test. I just dropped the whispers in, and I’d blend them in and adjust volume once we’re happy with placement. That extra shot helps a lot, actually. I can’t tell if the second whisper makes the cutaway to riders more abrupt, or if it is effective at implying the voices are guiding her into the DSII.
I can try that whenever I get more time, but know that it’s a short shot.
Here’s a test for the Sith whisper thing. At least the first chunk of it. It’s unfortunately a little cramped since there’s no extra footage to work with and the arrival of the riders comes up suddenly.
If only it were feasible to have multiple combo versions without taking up countless GBs of precious space. I sincerely invite anyone interested to make even just slight changes to this edit and putting it out there if they’d like.
Cool! I’m planning a regular Rey Palptine version first, then a Rey Nobody version whenever the pieces are ready for it. In my head, I’m gonna think of the first as my canon. I would’ve preferred her to have remained a “””nobody””” but this particular film seems shaped by her new heritage. But I don’t mind allowing for both. I can imagine randomly selecting which one to play even.
But even for Rey Nobody, unless it’s near unanimous, I think it’s stronger to keep the original final line.
I’ve got a McBalin (Steakmine and Grille) t-shirt.
Sorry, I wrote down this person’s actual name but not user name and now I can’t track them down!
Which of you has a wife, Dana, who submitted audio? Would you send me a PM?
Here’s Luuke (impersonating Luke) on Ach To, no longer referencing Leia having known the secret. He just calls Rey out on it, like “So what? You’re still you.”
I added a shot right after Luke sits down so Rey can be seen (sort of) turning her head, so let me know if you feel that works.
I think this is a very welcome change for a Rey Palpatine version of the edit.
That would be kind of funny if he just randomly crash landed and they were still just like “oh hey lol.”
PM sent
Oh, yes, that’s a wonderful joy. From our own dormant user Lord_Phillock.
Here’s the whole damn thing. I keep it on my Google Drive in case of emergency. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SIoTzgHHlZ__E5ulelrcoRCy8fwzQLQy/view?usp=drivesdk
Rey tells Luke, “You didn’t fail Kylo. Kylo failed you.”
I had an idea for the first Knights of Ren scene when Kylo Ren is getting his helmet reconstructed. I read somewhere that that scene was originally intended to be a ritual, so maybe having all of the Knights saying that line together… maybe with someone being a little louder than the others. I don’t know how feasible it would be, but almost making it like chanting.

He was reading the same thing everyone else was. He didn’t have any special connections or anything.
I’ve been wrong before but it doesn’t seem advisable with what we have to work with.
I didn’t exactly have lots of time to give to it, but it seems like there’ll be a hell of a handful of seconds to fill with reused shots in order to move the Final Order reveal to later.
I’ll see what can be done. I think we’ll need some cutaway shots so Palpatine can still tell Kylo “(The might of the Final Order will soon be ready.) It will be yours to command if you do as I ask.”
Cutting to the large stadium area would maybe be weird since that was kept for later. There’s really not much else to cull from that I am aware.
Interesting idea, I’ll have to experiment with it! It might let us keep that hopeless Poe scene before he speaks to Leia’s body.
And if anyone can record that line for the board room scene and find a good place to insert it, that’d be good. As long as it works, it’s a great idea.
EDIT: Well, it might be awkward to have Palpatine just offer Kylo a vague “Final Order” “might” during the opening, and a subsequent reference to “outdated ships” or whatever wouldn’t make immediate sense. 😕
