Rey tells Luke, “You didn’t fail Kylo. Kylo failed you.”
Rey tells Luke, “You didn’t fail Kylo. Kylo failed you.”
I had an idea for the first Knights of Ren scene when Kylo Ren is getting his helmet reconstructed. I read somewhere that that scene was originally intended to be a ritual, so maybe having all of the Knights saying that line together… maybe with someone being a little louder than the others. I don’t know how feasible it would be, but almost making it like chanting.

He was reading the same thing everyone else was. He didn’t have any special connections or anything.
I’ve been wrong before but it doesn’t seem advisable with what we have to work with.
I didn’t exactly have lots of time to give to it, but it seems like there’ll be a hell of a handful of seconds to fill with reused shots in order to move the Final Order reveal to later.
I’ll see what can be done. I think we’ll need some cutaway shots so Palpatine can still tell Kylo “(The might of the Final Order will soon be ready.) It will be yours to command if you do as I ask.”
Cutting to the large stadium area would maybe be weird since that was kept for later. There’s really not much else to cull from that I am aware.
Interesting idea, I’ll have to experiment with it! It might let us keep that hopeless Poe scene before he speaks to Leia’s body.
And if anyone can record that line for the board room scene and find a good place to insert it, that’d be good. As long as it works, it’s a great idea.
EDIT: Well, it might be awkward to have Palpatine just offer Kylo a vague “Final Order” “might” during the opening, and a subsequent reference to “outdated ships” or whatever wouldn’t make immediate sense. 😕

I wasn’t really able to extend Boolio’s shots through reversing footage.
And adding subtitles feels really sudden to me, and it’s a lot of information to take in real fast.
I thought about removing Finn seeming surprised about there being a spy, but maybe there’s no point in doing so since Boolio seems to be informing him there is one.
Yoto. Yoto.
Good point!
Zeroh made me want the ability to ‘hide’ YouTube channels like never before.

My concern is the first shot of Boolio speaking is pretty short. He just says “From a new ally. A spy in the First Order.”
Might be too much to cram in. But hey, maybe I’ll try that out next and just see.
I know I agree without even seeing it.
How’s this? We’d just need an obscure enough foreign language track. (Nien Nunb is precedent!)
Finn: Boolio, good to see you. You got something for us?
Boolio: The First Order spy says they stumbled upon a fleet from the last war.
Finn stares blankly.
Boolio: There’s more, but no time. Get the message to Leia.
Finn: How do we thank you?
Boolio: Thank the spy.
Hey could I get a link to the workprint? Cheers

For the moment, here’s the opening of the movie, restructured: https://vimeo.com/430217410
I made the “Find me” calls as Kylo picks up the Wayfinder almost subliminal. And when we see the Falcon in hyperspace, I removed the thunder continuing to roll by using some audio from the Falcon in hyperspace from ANH.
Can’t say when but I’ll try to reorder the opening.
Hey, that’s not bad. Subtler.
Right.
Where’s the General Kenobi version of the DOTF?
We could just straight up dub Boolio, but again, only if it serves the story by implying that the Final Order is modified old destroyers.
And I like Boolio so I’m okay with NOT doing this.
If I cut along those time stamps there’d still be a reference to lightspeed skipping but not as heavy of a focus. Might work.
Krausfadr posted a clip of how he edited the scene a while back:

Yes, that’s it! Thank you. 😃

Thanks for posting that! I know it took some patience with your connection.
It’s too bad footage had to be reversed in order to get enough room. I think finding some alternate source for a choir belting out those notes, maybe with a little less gusto, would help make it feel diagetic to that moment.
I agree though, it’s a natural idea for that moment.
As cool as some of the ideas have been for Ben’s redemption, the only restructuring I’m planning to do is to move Rey’s lines to before she heals Ben.
Muffy, could you direct me to the clip you referenced about removing the lightspeed skipping?
If I had to decide one way or the other permanently right now, I still lean toward leaving the structure of the opening as it is. However, I remain open to being persuaded and shown that it can work.
I won’t dub and sub Boolio unless there’s something to gain. Anybody think of some thing he could say to imply that the final order consists of old imperial star destroyers, that wouldn’t be too heavy handed or weird?
Also, one of you posted a good while ago a good edit point to remove the lightspeed skipping reference once the falcon returns. Who was that? It seemed good but I can’t remember how it went.
