I made the “Find me” calls as Kylo picks up the Wayfinder almost subliminal. And when we see the Falcon in hyperspace, I removed the thunder continuing to roll by using some audio from the Falcon in hyperspace from ANH.
Can’t say when but I’ll try to reorder the opening.

We could just straight up dub Boolio, but again, only if it serves the story by implying that the Final Order is modified old destroyers.
And I like Boolio so I’m okay with NOT doing this.
If I cut along those time stamps there’d still be a reference to lightspeed skipping but not as heavy of a focus. Might work.

Thanks for posting that! I know it took some patience with your connection.
It’s too bad footage had to be reversed in order to get enough room. I think finding some alternate source for a choir belting out those notes, maybe with a little less gusto, would help make it feel diagetic to that moment.
I agree though, it’s a natural idea for that moment.
As cool as some of the ideas have been for Ben’s redemption, the only restructuring I’m planning to do is to move Rey’s lines to before she heals Ben.

If I had to decide one way or the other permanently right now, I still lean toward leaving the structure of the opening as it is. However, I remain open to being persuaded and shown that it can work.
I won’t dub and sub Boolio unless there’s something to gain. Anybody think of some thing he could say to imply that the final order consists of old imperial star destroyers, that wouldn’t be too heavy handed or weird?
Also, one of you posted a good while ago a good edit point to remove the lightspeed skipping reference once the falcon returns. Who was that? It seemed good but I can’t remember how it went.
Apply a 0.75x speed to Lando’s laugh as he arrives with the fleet in TROS.
I think one thing that makes restructuring the opening feel wrong is that even though we hear “the Falcon still hasn’t reported in,” we see Poe and Finn appearing to just start their mission. The reason it took so long to get back was because Poe screwed up the Falcon with his shenanigans.

Also, I know that you’ll be making two versions to please both sides of Rey’s lineage (like you did with Padmé’s fate in your edit of Episode III), but just curious which you’d prefer overall for the story, Hal? I prefer her to be a nobody than be Palpatine’s granddaughter.
I think Rey Palpatine is dumb, and would much rather they had just continued what TLJ solidified about where she came from.
However, this film of which I am working on a fan edit was built with her being a Palpatine in mind, so I need to be mindful of that. Plus, as I interact with Star Wars more broadly, I don’t enjoy giving my heterodox version of the saga more incompatibilities. To be able to still chew on “the story that we got.”
Since no one has brought it up, what about trimming the line “Dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith knew.”
It’s so dumb considering there was an entire war named after clones with no direct relation to the Sith.
Well, it’s nice to have an onscreen reference to the possibility of Palpatine being a clone. For lack of any other way to make that more solid of an idea, I’d be reluctant to remove it.
And as cool of an idea as it is, Palpatine’s microphone reading of “more than a clone, less than a man” just seems to different to fit in.
I’d bet my last jar of mustard on it.
Leia is always going to be a very weird thing about this movie, but I don’t plan to remove her for my edit.
I like the scene where Chewie supposedly dies, I just don’t like that it was a cheap fakeout! However, it’s a little beyond the scope of this project to just remove. Now, we see Rey sense Chewie’s alive, and see him a bit later when the crew rescue him. Damn, it’d be good to have that Kylo Chewie scene to work with.
Hey, that’s what the movie needs. JJ needs to overcome his allergy to ships taking off and landing.
Put JJ in the Clockwork Orange chair watching the Enterprise scene from Star Trek TMP.
I’ll give it an earnest try and watch the first 12 minutes of the movie when I can.
Since I don’t have strong feelings one way or the other, I could plan to use “Ben, come home” if and when Dominic (or anyone) gets it to sound seamless.
Adding the dyad to the opening scene seems pretty sketchy to me. The audio is pretty rough. I’m okay with leaving the dyad pretty much as it is, clunky though it be.
Movies Remastered, would you mind posting or directing me to a clip of your idea for adding a DOTF moment to the acolytes?
Personally, I think the order of scenes at the start of the movie is fine. Reordering them makes a bit more sense if you want to remove the “who is she” thing, but even then…

What does everyone think of having an allusion to DOTF as the acolytes kneel in front of Palpatine? I think it was brought up before and shot down. If it sounds diagetic and isn’t tracked, I think it could work. Maybe even enough not to need to use it for the DSII duel.

I think skipping “Leia knew it too” is the way to go.
I’d happily remove Klaud if those two shots can be worked on to remove him.
