Welcome! I’ll send you one.
Welcome! I’ll send you one.
Hal are you planning on adding Luke and Leia’s theme over their training sequence? I feel like it’s a lot more appropriate.
No, as much as I love that music this scene is focusing on Leia in particular after we are introduced to her saber. It makes sense as is, and plus it would probably be really difficult to do since there’s sound effects flying around everywhere.
I don’t feel the need to make a point of bringing Finn down much.
I’m hesitant to remove the Finn having something to say thing because it’s a good chunk of what implies he’s Force sensitive. I already used poppasketti’s Rey voiceover in TLJ to tie into this even. And I find it awkward to cut out the reference to this in the sandy underworld.
We don’t really see any birds or porgs on Ach-to so it feels sort of weird to add foley for something not even there. Maybe they migrated South to an evil island.
I removed Rey’s line (“…really difficult”) rather than Finn’s (“we just landed”), since Finn doesn’t speak for a while otherwise.
And I added a little more of the DOTF from Solo to bridge more smoothly into the existing score.
I’ll try that with a BB8 sound, good idea.
And I’m not sure about Chewbacca in chains. It’d have to be the right shot, and I think we have very little to work with. I guess there’s something to be said for letting us just imagine rather than show us. I’ll take a look, but I imagine it’d be better not to.
Much like Starkiller Base making more sense, especially but not limited to how the speed of light works.
Removing the lightspeed skipping sequence was a hill for me to die on as soon as I saw it.
drumroll Bdbddbdbdbddbdbddbbdbdbdbdbdbdbbdrrrrrrrrrrrrrr… we have a new fleet audio submission from ADIGITALMAN! He was one of the big players back in the day, and an old personal mentor. Super happy to be able to include him for this.
Finn chimes in via comm during an action scene with something inaudible about “Disney plus.”
Yeah, I don’t mind those lines either, but I think it’s worth it to more cleanly remove the lightspeed skipping thing.
Lol, yeah, I think I’d said that before; it’s a natural, great idea. Maybe with a faint ghostly image of each as they go by: Yoda, Dooku, Qui-Gon.
I’ll try to better smooth out the ending to the ‘Solo’ DOTF moment, and try adding in the slower opening to the piece to trail into the original music that takes over shortly after.
I’m glad I was talked into it, lol. And I like the new icon!
Well, as if my life wasn’t already packed full, I’m going to have a little less time to do this sort of thing starting mid-August.
This edit won’t be the be-all, end-all of TROS work, but I hope to be able to wrap it up fairly soon and make it a totally coherent launchpad for other work. But to have it still be something I can be happy with and enjoy as a somewhat conservative effort.
If I can at least get the edit “locked” by a certain point, that will let me work on subtitles, chapters, and things like that to hopefully be ready. I can then plug in things like jonh’s work on Luke’s hair when they’re ready. Things that don’t take a lot of time on my end and can be done whenever.
I don’t imagine there being a V2. (Although, have I ever?) This time, though, it’s more to do with real life stuff on my end in ways it hasn’t with other projects. I know I say this a lot, but I can’t thank you all enough for helping make this exist. We will get there!
Shoot, I wasn’t even thinking about the ‘Rey Nobody’ cut when I typed this up. Part of me regrets promising to do it, but it’ll be important. Worst case there may just not be subtitles, or it may take longer to get together. Essentially it’ll just be the same edit with chunks borrowed from Dominic.
That’s nice, too!
Second workprint is up, same place.
Poppasketti, that shot looks great! I think the extra camera push helps it feel right. Nice little piece of buffer.
And not a bad idea, to consider the audio landscape for Ach-to!
Man, it never did get better than this. Circa 2008:
“Wow, what are all those heads?”
Okay, Octorox, I went ahead and added vimeo-sourced DominicCobb footage for the two vision scenes. They are temp sources, and have only stereo audio, but it’ll help give a better overall sense of the shape of the edit.
“I’m so hungry, I could eat an Octorok!”
Yeah, I’m counting on getting some things from Dom eventually but I don’t have them yet. This workprint won’t be the last, but it’ll take into account what’s been done in the last week or so and be a better experience for those who want to watch a workprint and haven’t done so yet.
And to be fair, Jakku is basically a reused shot to begin with.
New ideas aside, there’s not a great deal left to do! I’ll need to get some things from others as they are completed, but I’m going to go ahead and render out a second workprint. Pretty much everything I’ve done since the first one I’ve shared in this thread, but this will be better for anyone who hasn’t already checked it out.
Cinefy, could you send me the music you used from the Bail scene since you already have it pulled aside?
Nope!
I agree with Cinefy on this one. Kijimi is the only other planet on my wish list.
Now I can place it, as the two meet in Anakin’s hut. Nice idea.
What’s that from? I don’t even recognize it? I imagined the little dudda dudda duh-duh, dudda dudda duh-duh motif heard only in ESB.
