I wiiiiish we had the audio without the music overlaid. Ugh
Yeah. Idir, that’s a very nice clip. But I don’t think it works as-is for a theatrical exhibition. Undoubtedly the filmmakers could easily have made something very similar work well. The actual dialogue there is much improved from the raw audio clip.
This change is definitely something that would be nice to address but I haven’t really found or seen anything that pulls it off. 😦
Super fast.
Thanks, Muffy, for reminding me. It was a flashback of Han that filled in the spot there, I couldn’t remember. And that outdoor viewing must’ve been fun.
And I don’t think that music would work; it’s pretty obviously tracked reused music to me. I think that moment is fine as it is; it’s really not necessary to add music.
Right, fingering was all they got to. I was just kidding about that!
until Reylo is consummated.
We didn’t quite get there, either.
I’ll remove the ticking clock line!
Jonh, great to hear! I’m glad you’re back in business tearing up the world, and will be glad to receive your finished work whenever you have it ready.
And that’s some good feedback about the Naboo shot. I know snooker wants it to look like it was always like that, and those are some pointers I never would’ve noticed. (But your brain did?) And of course I think snooker for the effort and wizardry, too, as that is such a wonderful shot to have.
Snooker had just send me a revised clip that she feels blends in better to the surrounding footage. I can’t post a clip right at the moment, but it looks less flickers and quick, like there’s a larger scale to it.
I suppose the alternative would be to ditch the destroyer, and add gungans chasing a shrieking stormtrooper across the foreground.
Yeah. Can’t help but agree.
And with Leia, at least it’s clear she feels fear that she had the capacity to kill Kylo.
I hadn’t considered it like that but you’re right: the rush is the logistics of the fleet taking off. My only concern is that this may not be clear until late in the film. There are a few times during the adventure when characters say “We don’t have time to X.”
And that’s an interesting read on the Leia death, with Rey feeling responsible for it. That makes sense! I’ll have to play with the scene, though, unless there’s a mock-up out there I may just not be remembering right now. If Rey stabbing Kylo is followed by Rey dropping headphones, there’d be a lot to cram in from Leia before seeing her give out altogether.
I think Rian interpreted Luke in about the only way he could given TFA’s setup. At least the best way one could if they put more than 45 seconds of concerted effort toward.
If someone can come up with an alternative line that still does the trick, I’m open to it!
I don’t mind spreading the word, but it can easily feel tacky and I’ve never felt it appealing to actually do. And for what? I don’t make anything on this, not even any YouTube clips to even slightly monetize. I just like the idea of people who like this sort of thing stumbling onto the finished product and getting to have Christmas.
I think I prefer the first way you had it, with the theme coming in slowly before we hear the main part as we cut to Rey and Kylo. I then added the first part of the music afterward to bridge to when the existing music comes in the scene. I do plan to turn the volume up, especially toward the end.
And that’s great, kewlfish! I’ll add them to the timeline once you’re happy with the crackle across the whole movie.
Well, I finished laying down crackly audio for the saber across the film. Wasn’t difficult, as the crackle doesn’t need to be particularly audible most of the time. Usually the existing audio rising and falling in volume was enough to let the effect present itself as needed. I adjusted volume based on the saber’s proximity to camera and left to right throughout, at least roughly. Again, it’s a subtle enough effect that precision would be overkill much of the time. I used the presence of the saber hum as a guideline; if you can hear one you should hear the other.
Sounds like kewlfish is moving at a pretty good pace with the visuals. That’s still really impressive.
It may end up being jonh that we wait on, and that’s totally understandable.
Cool!
Even Star Wars one day will be gone without a trace for whatever intelligent life will inhabit or come across the planet.
PM sent.
Well, if another look can make it a little better, great, but I agree it is fine as is.
Burbin is making Spanish subtitles for TROS! He actually was kind enough to take the brunt of doing the English, and possibly French, subtitles as well which will certainly help get this project along to the end. He actually even spruced up the existing prequel edits’ Spanish subtitles, also, which I will put on the Google Drive when finished. (I don’t want to take the edits down, mux the subtitles in, and reupload, though, because they’d be incompatible with the torrents after that point.)
Or you haven’t agonized over making it sound good! lol
But yeah, that’s right. Maybe even a half second of that first note from elsewhere could sound all right. I have no idea; maybe I’ll just need to give it a shot when I can.
I’ve been thinking about the way the music comes in at the very end of the movie, leading into the credits. I can’t fade it in very elegantly because it comes right on the heel of a loud final note of the Resistance theme.
Anyone have or can contrive a light note that can be brought in first and give way to the existing music? The Force theme sometimes has one more note than what is currently there to lead into it.
Right. There’d be no real benefit to adjusting by a single frame 85% of the way into the movie.
I’m looking forward to this one:
Interesting channel. While my prequel edits will be my go-to versions, the textual lineage keeps on propagating. Edits of those movies will never, ever end.
Nothing to worry about; and I appreciate that feedback!
Hey, I guess you can always modify the crawl in your subtitles!
And just a note about the crawl: I know the opening crawl is going to be a sticky subject, with almost anyone on planet Earth able to compose one superior to the one in the theatrical TROS.
I like the symmetry of having one film per trilogy with no ALL CAPS WORDS, and appreciate namedropping Mustafar. It’s either a planet that means something to the reader, or serves as worldbuilding. Either way, I like the significance of opening on that particular planet, but the film itself didn’t give us any real indication that it had.
In the Hal9000 presentation of the overall saga, over half of the films have crawls either written or compiled by me. That’s a little weird to think about. This is the only one for which I felt no obligation to maintain connection to the original. TROS has the worst crawl out of the nine, hands down. I know this crawl won’t knock it out of the park for everyone, but I do appreciate the feedback to help me make sure it’s what I want to use.
You should see some of my professional writing; I can be pedantic, that’s for sure.
I’d sure hope so!
