Umm, where’s the clip?
I left it in the dishwasher too long, and it melted. Post updated.

Well, here’s the scene with a temp audio clip for Palpatine. Could select a different portion to use, but having the static conclusion to prompt the crowd reaction seems to work.

I think the best way to go about this idea is simply and merely to recreate idir’s dialogue using the music-less source and use this to replace the lines “We reviewed the message or whatever, and it confirms the worse: Somehow, Palpatine returned.”
I appreciate the effort, particular from Cinefy. I feel bad turning down a lot of what you submit, but I appreciate it regardless and we’re better off having more ideas at all!
Resistance base extended scene - Alternate Palpatine message idea
Concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGYEq59QZzc
Super rough.
Ooohh, that’s an interesting idea. Two thoughts for the moment: Rose’s line, “It’s on every frequency” would need to go, which should be easy since her back is turned. Also, this renders Merry’s line about “dark science, cloning…” weird since he sounds surprised in that moment. He could either be cut off after the word ‘cloning,’ or remove the line.
Or have that short little scene, then they play the message for everyone and go from there.
As Rey starts to hear the voice of Jedi past during the climax of TROS, Kenobi says, “Palpatine is a politician. I have noticed he is very clever at following the passions and prejudices of the senators.”
Right. It’d be good to retain a name drop of Palpatine in some way, as that’s a very filmmaking thing to do. He hasn’t been referred to as Palpatine outside of the prequels. Even so, his name is used in ways one can easily infer who he is several times before it becomes essential to understand who the name refers to.
Eh, we just start the scene with the Palpatine message already playing, concluding right before Rose asks, “Do we believe this?” The audience doesn’t need to be told it’s Palpatine; we met him already.
I’m not positive I’ll want to use the speech as the KoR are heading into the conference room, but more certain about the Resistance scene.
👍👍👍
Even just the existing audio from the music-less version being added to the nighttime Resistance scene would be better than Poe’s intro lines. And harkening back to it as Kylo heads into his meeting hits home that this was a leak rather than an announcement.
I like it! The clip we have to work with has a hologram or radio filter on it, so that may make it less than ideal to modify.

Yeah, that’s the kind of thing! Feels a lot less sudden. 😃
And so the Palptine speech we have without music isn’t actually McDiarmid? Even so that may be the best bet: use it to recreate idir’s dialogue choices and start the scene with it playing to replace Poe’s opening lines. Idir’s version feels much better than the original dialogue.
I don’t mind putting that together but it may be more expedient if anyone wants to do that for me. I will if no one beats me to the punch, whenever that’ll be.
Good news! It’s also an audio drama!
TPM - Selflessness Defeating Desire
AOTC - Selflessness Corrupted by Desire
ROTS - Desire leading to Destruction
ANH - The Will to Confront Evil Without
TESB - The Horror of Realizing Evil Within
ROTJ - Overcoming the Evil Within
TFA - The Wounds of Isolation
TLJ - Confronting the Failure which caused Isolation
TROS - Somehow, Palpatine Returned
I wiiiiish we had the audio without the music overlaid. Ugh
Yeah. Idir, that’s a very nice clip. But I don’t think it works as-is for a theatrical exhibition. Undoubtedly the filmmakers could easily have made something very similar work well. The actual dialogue there is much improved from the raw audio clip.
This change is definitely something that would be nice to address but I haven’t really found or seen anything that pulls it off. 😦
Super fast.
Thanks, Muffy, for reminding me. It was a flashback of Han that filled in the spot there, I couldn’t remember. And that outdoor viewing must’ve been fun.
And I don’t think that music would work; it’s pretty obviously tracked reused music to me. I think that moment is fine as it is; it’s really not necessary to add music.
Right, fingering was all they got to. I was just kidding about that!
until Reylo is consummated.
We didn’t quite get there, either.
I’ll remove the ticking clock line!
Jonh, great to hear! I’m glad you’re back in business tearing up the world, and will be glad to receive your finished work whenever you have it ready.
And that’s some good feedback about the Naboo shot. I know snooker wants it to look like it was always like that, and those are some pointers I never would’ve noticed. (But your brain did?) And of course I think snooker for the effort and wizardry, too, as that is such a wonderful shot to have.
Snooker had just send me a revised clip that she feels blends in better to the surrounding footage. I can’t post a clip right at the moment, but it looks less flickers and quick, like there’s a larger scale to it.
I suppose the alternative would be to ditch the destroyer, and add gungans chasing a shrieking stormtrooper across the foreground.
Yeah. Can’t help but agree.
And with Leia, at least it’s clear she feels fear that she had the capacity to kill Kylo.
I hadn’t considered it like that but you’re right: the rush is the logistics of the fleet taking off. My only concern is that this may not be clear until late in the film. There are a few times during the adventure when characters say “We don’t have time to X.”
And that’s an interesting read on the Leia death, with Rey feeling responsible for it. That makes sense! I’ll have to play with the scene, though, unless there’s a mock-up out there I may just not be remembering right now. If Rey stabbing Kylo is followed by Rey dropping headphones, there’d be a lot to cram in from Leia before seeing her give out altogether.
I think Rian interpreted Luke in about the only way he could given TFA’s setup. At least the best way one could if they put more than 45 seconds of concerted effort toward.
If someone can come up with an alternative line that still does the trick, I’m open to it!
