And, of course, there will be room for a handful more "woo"s from you all. Send 'em to me!

Right now, the now much longer shot opens with, “We believe in you, Poe!” and “We’re here to help, Poe!” Halfway through there are a couple of, "For Skywalker"s, and then nothing for a few seconds.

You’ll get a sense of how it is whenever I can get audio sounding good!

Well, the full extended shot is only 8 frames short of totally covering both the Poe “hit those cannons” and Wedge “good shooting, Lando” shots. The remaining 8 frames of audio are easily removed. So, this stands to be a very nice change, for plot logic reasons.

I will play with the audio when I can, tonight if I’m lucky. We will need someone to doctor the video a little to remove watermark and make the color/contrast/brightness/other-things-I-don’t-know-about closer to the film footage. I’m confident someone here can do that nicely, so I will proceed with getting the audio to sound like how it’ll need to and post a clip when I can. 😃

I gave a go at doing sound for the shot, only issue is the shot isn’t in the best quality ever but it should be serviceable. also I’m pretty new to sound stuff, i did it in mind that there would be more radio chatter on top of it

I dunno how to remove the watermark either lol.

Sounds good to me, too! I can’t tell for the moment, but is it in surround? Could you perhaps export it with ONLY the added sound effects (no music)? If it’s only stereo, I may need separate tracks for some of the sounds to be able to pan as ships fly into frame from behind.

Honestly, I couldn’t figure out how to mix in 5.1 so I just tested it out with 6 different audio tracks with one all the way right, one half way to the right, etc etc; However, I’ve just figured it out lol, so ill redo it and get it done soonish.

(edit: i actually don’t really understand it lol. should i just send every track as a separate audio file? the shot where I’ve edited it from takes place right after poe’s “hit those underbelly cannons blah blah blah”

If you can just send me six audio tracks and let me know which is which that’d be amazing. If you would just include the video stream as well, the entire unbroken shot, that’d be helpful as well. I’ll do my best to assemble it and see if there’ll be room for a few more “woo”s from you all. And then whenever the watermark can be removed we’ll hopefully be all set.

I just merged the TFA credits and TROS credits music files. In a perfect world, it would include Hal’s lead in with the Skywalker theme, cut to Rey’s, and then finish out with the Star Wars theme. Basically just adding like 6 or 7 more seconds to the audio that Hal is using. But I don’t have that audio track to work off of.

That’s how I feel about it, too.

For anyone who would like it, here’s the ending scene with no added music. (The video track is compressed, but the audio is not.)

Previously on /post/id/1371613 of this thread I found the end notes from the Star Wars Rebels epilogue can act as a bridge between the TFA cue and the TROS end credits to add more of the familiar jolt for those not quite satisfied with the current workprint audio. Using Hal’s shared “ending scene with no added music” and Final Cut Pro X, I added and synced the TROS end credits music with the clip, then I synced the end notes from Rebels, then I added the TFA cue. I don’t have the phenomenal TFA cue fade in from bbghost so I just did my own simple crossfade for this proof of concept. I’ve added the shared clip with my audio as well as a screenshot of what I did in FCPX to my google drive folder. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dYFzUxQSHDRQq3m67gEhQJs8IRPJavl9?usp=sharing

Note: This isn’t meant to be used as final audio, this is only a concept/test. If someone with more audio editing wants to use my idea for their own edit/audio track go for it.

I don’t think it works to have that much added to the end, as I feel the transition from the final note of Rey’s theme into credits works just fine. However, I will play with adding a slight hint of it and see if that makes it better. Thanks for including the audio files you worked from!

That extended shot is not necessarily going to be included; it depends on getting it sans watermark and being able to incorporate it with appropriate sound effects and timing the music right.

That being said, anyone is still welcome to submit audio. It will just probably need to be suppressed to the level of barely audible, as the majority of them already are out of necessity.

Absolutely nothing in the movie implies Palpatine’s son is a clone. I’d say the fact he doesn’t look like him should count as precluding it.

That’s a good find, but we’d probably need more audio to go with it for the ships flying by. Worth a shot, for sure! And we could include a few more people’s audio submissions. Anyone able to remove that watermark?

Too much would need to be cut to effectively have Chewie die, IMHO.

Rey Nobody will work fine, I’m sure of it. There’s just a lot of R&D left, it seems like. I’ll look forward to it, but it’s out of my hands. We’ll hopefully have the regular cut to watch before too terribly long, and there’s no rush to finish the Nobody cut just for speed’s sake.

I think the movie still feels like having Rey be a Palpatine is integral to her struggle. But it’s obviously a left turn from TLJ.
I’m hoping the Rey Nobody version can be as good as possible, and I’m counting on the creativity of others that I will happily reflect in the product. But, I still think Rey Palpatine is better for this movie in and of itself.

But, hey, I kept Padme alive in Episode 3, so I am known not to totally abide by that thinking. At any rate, both cuts will be completed and made available.

Kerr's 'Lord Of The Rings' Fan Edits, Extended Editions by Hal9000/Sharkey (Released)

Well, if I ever do get to try it, here are my initial thoughts:

Remove 49 minutes from the Maple Films Hobbit edit

Begin with the Maple Films version, trimming further as inspired by the 3hr Spence edit and 2hr Fiona Van Dahl cut.

Loose ideas

  • Include visual montage of backstory during the fireside song
  • Remove pocket handkerchief gag in favor of beginning the traveling montage
  • Dwarves go along with “they’re infected” right away
  • Probably remove Gandalf and Elrond conversation at night setting up white council and dragon sickness
  • Mute Thorin saying Bilbo has no place amongst them
  • Experiment with reintroducing the flashback that introduces Azog
  • Perhaps include the EE two-by-two Beorn scene
  • Trim Gimli reference and Bilbo versus baby spider
  • They don’t get into fish barrels, just show up already in them
  • Cut down the Master and Alfrid more, but be mindful not to go too far
  • The dwarves do not enter the mountain before Smaug exits
  • Bard shouldn’t go to jail and can just spring into action
  • Search the subtitles for ‘dragon sickness’ to kill all but the briefest allusions to the idea
  • Maybe don’t even show Bilbo leave and give the arkenstone away, letting it be revealed to us as it is to Thorin
  • Add a subtitle comma to the Azog line that was missing one

To be fair, the transition sounded better than most edits I’ve glanced at. I just don’t feel like a real movie would’ve been like that, but I’m a stickler.

Maple Films retains the elves shooting at them and an ambush by orcs, but it’s cut down heavily. Azog later references Bolg failing to stop them, and it feels like a real movie, although you do still have to put up with Azog and Bolg being in that much of the movie.

If I had the time, I’d like to do a scene by scene comparison between the Maple Films version and the 2-hour Hobbit cut and marry the two. Start from the Maple Films edit, and cut away at it further by considering anything for removal not contained in the 2-Hour cut until arriving at approximately the length of the theatrical ROTK.
