I don’t want to remove any of those lines, personally. Rey’s line about earning the saber actually fits in much better with the crackly effect in place.
The “I’m the spy” is very silly, but I feel like removing it feels any better. It might be difference if there were more footage to work with of Hux just standing there after shooting the troopers.
Leia’s line doesn’t make a lot of face value sense, but does (sort of) inform her role in training Rey and gives… some reason why these things are happening.

I feel like we should use a different establishing shot instead of the one from TLJ, people will notice it’s obviously from TLJ.

What shot do you mean? The only shot added to the sequence is taken from a documentary about Skellig Michael.

EDIT: That same documentary has a nice overhead shot of the island that might look better for nighttime conditions. Nev, it’s in the clip I sent you to begin with if you agree.

I think Luke’s comment on fear is much more thematically relevant to this film’s story. Rey and Luke each gave into fear of their inner darkness/failure and exiled themselves. I like that little scene the way it is and don’t plant to change it or further truncate it.

Nev, that’s a distinct improvement! The establishing shot at the beginning is perfect. Rey throwing stuff at Ren’s TIE feels perhaps too orange now that the sun(s) has/have set. Would feel right for a sunset but now for dusk, IMO.
The sitting on a log scene looks good, though there are three or four shots that would benefit from masking the sky in order to darken it further.
I wonder if it’d be even better to have the hut interior pre-flashback as being pretty darn dark outside, then a bit lighter post-flashback, leading into a sunrise as she heads outdoors.
Also, it feels in isolation that the sunrise feels more like a sunset with this grade. Maybe in reality sunrise and sunset look similarly orange, but it feels more like a sunset to me. Not sure if that’s useful!

Sherlockpotter, I think a tiny bit of purple could be nice, but nothing near the level in that clip.

Fantastic work so far; nothing surprises me anymore. I’m sure this scene will get into sublime shape.

Please, guys. These posts don’t cost anything. We aren’t on the clock.

Pee on the grate, please refer to the FAQ on the Drive. There’s just been V1 so far which is what’s there, and V2 is being worked on.

I don’t think it’d flow well to reinsert just those snippets of Luke’s dialogue. The way things are now makes sense. If anything it could be like this:

“Because you’re a Palpatine. Rey, some things are stronger than blood: your spirit, your heart. If you don’t face the Palpatine, it’ll mean the end of the Jedi.”

I could see how doable this would be. Hard to say without trying it. I know there’s a bit more footage there and a loop of music that could be reinstated if it happened to be timed right. Idk. (And hey, feel free to let me do this, once I can. I feel like I haven’t really done anything in a while. Lol)

I will try to play with it, but all I would be able to do is change to what degree the changes are applied by overlaying and opacity.

Also, any further de-blueing of Luke would have to be done anew, since I can’t just apply that over this as they are totally separate clips with entirely different overall looks. So once we get Luke’s haircut finished up we could hammer out the finer details of Luke’s blueness.

Let’s see, few responses:

  • The T minus 5 scene is being tweaked further? I’ll look forward to seeing what’s there. I don’t mind the way it is in V1 with a woosh through hyperspace followed by a zip out across realspace. But I’d be happy to include the reordering as that seems like how it would have been if it were made that way in the first place.

  • I don’t plan to use the red Sith lightning, no. Personally I don’t really get the appeal, and I like how the Sith lightning in the movie and others goes along with the natural phenomena of the Sith homeworld.

  • The saber fizzling out will be great to see. Exciting to hear its (almost?) finished!

  • It’s hard to get myself to care about a discrepancy between the lights being off in the main shot and on in the distant shot. No one would ever notice that.
