Yeah, I don’t plan to change that. That’d be better for the main TROS thread.
Yeah, I don’t plan to change that. That’d be better for the main TROS thread.
I’ll see about it but I agree in principle with Dominic that I don’t want to cause any harm for the sake of addressing what to me is a non-issue.
I don’t really see how the line is incongruous with this version of the story.
It’s just one shot that can be cropped? Yeah, that might be fine, then.
Yeah, no problem!
I believe it was through removing Rey handing the saber over and getting it back, as opposed to visual FX? I don’t want to alter that dynamic for the sake of a visual continuity error.
Yes, we did adjust the sequence to make it less abrupt and immediate. I don’t think removing that cutaway altogether would help anything and could muddle things just a little.
Also, things like the dagger disappearing for a shot or two don’t really bother me much; it’s just part of moviemaking. However, if anyone does wish to comp in the missing dagger then by all means. I would include the fix, though I don’t ask anyone for it.
Star Wars has so much potential for fun as well as playful deepfakes.
One related idea is Tarkin during his one shot in ROTS.
I’m glad to hear from you, and welcome! I hope you don’t mind we proceeded to use your work without having heard back.

MR, do you think you could apply the slowdown to a clip I can send that has Nev’s color correction?
(There would be no hurry.)
^ That’s a good point, too.
I agree, great work! It really helps that Rey blinks and moves her eyes like she had been distracted.
I’ll look forward to it. I’d say, too, that it’ll be something like that or not to include the line.
Y’know, could keyframed zooming remove the slight camera zoom during that second shot of Luke? That might help sell it so that the first shot zooms in and then we merely cut back to that angle again.
I really like that sequence for the dialogue. Flawless in that regard. However, it is a little weird to cut back and forth and see what was obviously the same shot resume after a cut. But exactly that happens here and there in Star Wars.
All right, well I’ll scrap the poll.
At this point I’ll plan not to alter the dialogue. Let’s move this to the general thread and see if anything comes of it there. I don’t think these changes are necessary.
The way it’s currently implemented in the Vimeo seems fine to me. But it seems just as fine without it. I really don’t care either way, which perhaps is all the more reason not to use it.
The fact that these dialogue things are in question now highlights the madness we’re currently in!
I think the scene is perfectly fine the way it is originally. I’m sorry for jerking everyone around, and I know I’m not the most decisive leader. Let’s section off this scene, mark it complete aside from the specific Vimeo change with the poll, and move further discussion to the general TROS ideas thread.
To be clear, I’ll abide by the poll results, but it’s between the original scene and the way it is in the clip with the single added line.
JEDIT: Can anyone confirm they voted YES but dislike the clip? If so, the poll isn’t clear and invalid.
Here’s my take on the scene. By removing some lines it allows Rey to “take it upon herself” to go to Exegol. She doesn’t need Luke telling her what do to.
Saw this after my last post. The url appears to be invalid.
I appreciate the mock-up, but I don’t wish to use any of it, except to experiment with attempting to add a purple cast or at least try it.
I love the use of Yoda’s theme, and wouldn’t dream of cutting “you have everything you need.”
I’ll look at the poll later but I expect the added line will be removed.
Aw, hell, here’s a poll. I’ll check it at the end of the day, about 12 hours from now, and we’ll see. I really don’t much care one way or the other.
And for reference, here’s the clip again: https://vimeo.com/523070856
I wonder what sort of lightsaber Tom Bombadil would have. He’d misplace it and wouldn’t use it for long.
I could see how the scene plays with the Exegol line muted. Rey’s next line is “I can’t get there,” but it’s still pretty clear what she means.
Yeah, it’s okay to bring up new ideas in the general TROS thread. I do read that one too and can pull in anything that seems like a good fit. There is often a lot to keep track of.
Let’s not add the Luke line to the hut scene.
I think we’re all getting antsy here, and this is a legit maddening kind of a project to tackle at all. The final product will inevitably include things one person would’ve preferred to leave out and exclude things they’d have liked to see. My hope is that the edit reads as an improvement without anything changed that doesn’t work easily on a single viewing.
Not gonna lie, I thought the line being added to the end scene was intended as humor.
Replace the whispers that accompany the Wayfinders with a digital watch alarm sound.
