And to all: I've been a reader and contributor to this forum for a while now and I've always enjoyed the genuine enthusiasm. But this kind of sharp reaction (mainly from Fuser) only serves to take all the fun out of it. I love Star Wars. But Star Wars fans..? That's something else.

Thanks dude - love you too! lol!

Master ObiSwan - Ady has finished the film to his own personal taste, and obviously wanted to include that shot. I'm not trying to sound rude, but if you don't like the shot, you can always remove it yourself with basic video-editing software
He has already said that he's not doing any more requests/alterations!

Outstanding stuff Adywan - thank you for taking the effort to post such a long clip btw - it made my day!
So many positives! The red R2 before they enter Docking Bay 94 was a stroke of genius
Cantina stuff all good - especially the lack of blood on the severed arm - makes more sense!

What else? - I for one am glad you kept the SE Millenium Falcon exit from the docking bay: I always loved that shot - not everything in the SE was pants!
Vaders lights - hellfire, I cant imagine how long it took you to do that for the whole film, but it was completely seamless - brilliant.

Just - brilliant. Thanks again.

LEC games: X-Wing, TIE Fighter...
Time
Aww hell, classic X-Wing was the game I bought my first PC for. Never before had anything I'd played make me feel so much like part of the movies. And frankly, nothing I've played since has either. What an amazing experience it was. If only they would re-release it with today's graphical standards (like those in Rogue Leader). Outstanding. Nothing that followed was ever as good

Haha and I completely missed the point of the topic there - well done me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So back ON topic I prefer the XWA handling as I like the turning: quick cut to 1/3 speed for a fast banking maneouver before hitting the thrusters as you tear through a TIE fighter. Genius

POLL: So Who Bought Them & Who Didn't? (the 2006 GOUT DVD release)
Time
CO: The fact that SW is only 'flavour of the month' for your nephew and other kids all over the world, is that there is so much ELSE to watch and be into. It is well documented that SW filled a void in fun adventure films in the late 70s which is why it made such an impact on us. There was only ONE movie to go and see that year. But this time round it is different - POTC as you mentioned for one. The Matrix when PT was out. SW isnt on its own this time - it is having to share kids time with other stuff.

Time
Good point - there will not be a lot of fans (as a percentage of all the people who will want the OUT on DVD) who take the time to join these forums, register at myspleen etc etc, download the files and then burn their own DVDs. Shoddy release or not, this official release will make, in my opinion, most of the fans who wanted this, happy.

POLL: So Who Bought Them & Who Didn't? (the 2006 GOUT DVD release)

I really believe that Lucas doesn't know there is a huge demand for the O-OT, remember he is in that box on Lucasranch and I think he is out of touch with what is cool in the movies today

I dont think that is true in either sense. Of course he knows - he's not daft. And frankly, I think you overestimate the demand. Sure there's a few people on here, and a lot of very vocal people who run websites/magazines etc etc. I read a review of the new DVDs today in the Times: "To those who have agonised over Whether Greedo should have shot first or whether Obi-Wans shout resembled that of a dewback or a krayt dragon , this is tantamount to the Holy Grail. Hopefully they'll keep quiet now."

Sometimes I wonder if it is healthy to get so worked up about it all!

Well I bought them and am pleased with them. I wasnt going to, but the argument I persuaded myself with was that we WANTED the OUT on DVD and we got it. LFL did what we wanted (quality issues aside) and so they were worth buying. If everyone held back because of the mediocre picture I honestly think we would never see the OUT again. If they sell well then LFL get the message that we want them.
And frankly the picture is OK - I watched all 3 and thoroughly enjoyed them thank you!

How I learned to stop worrying and love the 2004 dvd's
Time
Yes! The Sarlacc beak is horrendous!

Anyway - I took your advice! I have a 'User' setting on my TV. I turned on the 'warm hue' setting, halved the saturation and mucked about with the contrast and brightness a bit and lo and behold you are right! The corridor in the Tantive IV is white again!!!! Yay! And yes, even the green lightsaber is less offensive now - so thank you. Still doesnt stop Hoth being blue sometimes though - they must have REALLY overdone it on that

Order of the Sith - fan film
Time

This may be old news to some, but I never posted about this here - I made a SW fanfilm with Dave Prowse, Jeremy Bulloch, Michael Sheard and Orli Shoshan. (I know she’s from the PT but she is a Jedi Master Lingerie model so I dont care)
The film - Downfall - is free to download at Order of the Sith

Both Downfall and its predecessor Vengeance have been featured on TFN and Film Review magazine, and over the last 18 months we have raised about £12000 for Save the Children with them.

So if you’ve not seen them go and have a look - hopefully they will raise a smile!

Why do people think Han changed if/when he Greedo shot first?
Time
Crikey - that was an interesting read. I never for a moment thought that Han hadnt shot first in the original versions, but you are right - there IS a lot of smoke. This was the one change that bugged me (like most it seems) sheerly due to the 'correctness' of it. It didnt cross my mind for example that GL actually DID set up Greedo shooting first. In which case, believe it or not, I'll let him off!

.: The XØ Project - Laserdisc on Steroids :. (SEE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES) (* unfinished project *)
Time
OK - I just scoured the official site as I knew I'd read it somewhere - I quote:
"This limited time release will be the only DVD release of the unaltered theatrical films."

So there you have it. The unaltered release wont be on the box-set. I think it would confuse matters for Joe average if it was.
That still leaves the door open for an 'altered original theatrical release' though - as in a cleaned up one at some point. But I really think this is the only one we'll get for a year or 3.....

And thanks for the sauce btw.

As an aside, does anyone know if all of the Moth3r torrents have been removed at myspleen? - I was halfway through them gorramit!!!!

Hey guys - even if /when a cracking fan LD transfer (like the XO project) comes out and craps all over the official release, it won't embarass or shame LFL one bit. Because people, in general, wont either know or care. Bearing in mind no-one will be able to get hold of it, the impact it would have would be extrmemely limited - even if it was featured in the press: "A group of fans have released a fantastic laserdisc to DVD conversion that puts the official releases to shame! Except you cant see it. Er, move along......"

And there is no way that LFL will release the OT in the2007 box set - it says quite specifically that this is the only time they will be available ON DVD........so they will hold back for HD. That is why no work has gone into it. To get you to buy it yet again.
2004 SE DVDs - only SW DVDs available - so we buy it
2006 GOUT - only theatrical release on DVD ever - so we buy it
2007 - Saga box set - with all the extras and BTS stuff we should have had first time - so we buy it
2009/2010 - HD individual releases of all 6 films - with theatrical release having been cleaned up 'especially for this Hi-Def presentation' - so we buy it.

Its just LFL very very cynically making money. If they release a cleaned up 5.1 surround set of the OUT this time, we would be far less likely to buy it again in 2 years. Regardless of how you feel about the 'lack of care' they have given to the release, they really do know how to squeeze money out of the fans.

Dont get me wrong - I love the fan-preservations (I even tried one myself hahaha) but now that we have 'succeeded' to the point of getting LFL to release the theatrical cut, the issue for most average fans has been settled.

Star Wars Limited Edition Screen Captures.
Time
Well I've just finished ANH and I have to say that I am impressed with the picture too. Its not perfect - I wasnt expecting it to be given the source and lack of treatment. But it is far better than I had believed it was going to be. Better than the LD transfers have seen, and more importantly, I now feel I never have to watch the SE mixes again. And - crucially - it hasnt been fiddled with. Obviously I'm not as 'hardcore' as some folk here (who probably dont watch the SE's on principle) - but I'm relieved.

Oh, and the sound - the sound is sooooooo much better than the woeful 2004 DVD mix
