STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

lol@ron!

Ady - whats the process for getting DVDs out if you dont mind me asking? I'm not entirely sure how the PIF scheme works....I've got a burner: do I get one from you then send 5 out? Get one from someone else and send some out?

Also, is it just people on this forum you want them going to or as many people I know who are interested?

Sorry if youve answered this b4 somewhere on the last 180 pages!

Having tried to redo the lightsabers on ANH myself before, I'd like to point out that the original rotoscoping was absolutely awful - sometimes the blade would be so far away from the hilt it was almost 40% hanging over. Oh, and at wrong angles. When I did it the only way to have a consistent blade was to have it slightly fatter than the ones 'standardised' by the prequel trilogy.

I dont know if this was a problem Ady had though.

Another point though is that the 'original' blades were actually really fat. Think back to Empire, and the closing fight of Jedi - the blades there are humongous!

The difference is that Ady asked for opinions on the flipper, as he decided to change it. Everything else is nit-picking to your own personal preference and not Adys. Same goes for the TIE fighter discussion which should really have ended when Ady said he was happy with it, rather than carrying on to implore him to change it. Go change it yourself I say.

Ady - the 2 or 3 little points that have been 'picked up' are unimportant. You have done an outstanding job and you should be very very proud of yourself. Hell, I'm proud of you and I've never met you! People will always have different opinions on how the film should be - quick answer is they can go edit it themselves if they are that bothered about it.

And I've learnt this from putting my fanfilms online - if you are happy with it, carry on regardless and enjoy it. When I put my last fanfilm up, people from all over the world emailed to thank me for it; to thank me for making something with a true 'Star Wars feel'. That made me glow with pride. People also emailed to tell me how I should be shot for bringing disgrace to the name of Star Wars. So what?! - they are entitled to that opinion - I enjoyed making it and thousands of people enjoyed watching it, so sod em. The same applies here - if YOU have enjoyed it and are pleased with the results (as you bloody should be!) then don't let naysayers stop you from doing it.

WXM - I've said a huge thank you to Ady already, but I'd like to extend this to you also for the phenomenal work you've done on the edit. Most here are agreed that the TIE reveal isTHE jaw-dropper shot of the film, so to learn it was your 1st attempt at this sort of thing makes it all the more incredible.

Mojo - surely you are beating a dead whippet here? Ady has said he's really happy with the shot; everyone else thinks it is excellent, so why keep on at it? I dont wish that to come across as sounding rude btw - more curious
From the way you say you want to give it the same care as every other project youve worked on, it comes across that this is your project also - which it isnt.

All I can suggest is that you do the shot yourself and show us what you mean. But dont forget to include a flipper in it somewhere to keep up with the times

'Constant whiners'? 'Demanding'?

No-one here has demanded anything of Ady, nor has there been any whining. As far as I can tell its been quite an in depth discussion, with nothing malicious or whiny about it. In fact Ady asked everyone's thoughts on that particular shot - which everyone gave in a civilised manner.

Come to think of it this is one of the most pleasant forums I visit - many others would have descended into a flame war over this sort of thing..

Hmm - I agree with your comments there about the music in the LS battle: all the saber battles in the 6 films are mostly without music for the very reasons you stated. Adding the soundtrack makes it feel less intense - in my opinion.

However, the TIE shot you are talking about seems to be the one 'holy shite that's brilliant' shot that most people have picked out as excellent, so I cant understand where you are coming from there. The cloned TIE shot Ady posted a while back looked precisely that - cloned, and therfore utterly fake. The big TIE reveal combined with the Imperial March is a standout moment of the whole edit I reckon.

Quite apart from making me all excited about ANH all over again (WHAT a brilliant film) - Ady's work has inspired me to do my own edits of Clones and Sith! Wont be anything remotely like Ady's restoration work, but the brilliant editing in the lightsaber fight and Kenobi's hut really pushed how a good edit can change a film....

Hey! Didnt I just say that?

But yes - after several pages of 'flipper' debate its probably appropriate to re-iterate (wow - what a lot of long words) how grateful I am to you Ady for what you've done. Seriously, watching your edit was an emotional experience in so many ways and I havent stopped thinking about it since.

My wife thinks I'm very very sad.

You're right - its not a big deal, but we're all detail obsessives on here - thats why we are here in the first place! Most people just dont care about this sort of thing which is fair enough. No-one has been rude or insulting about it: just a detailed discussion about what we think it could be. that's why it is taking up so many posts.
But I'll say this - the fact that the flipper is pretty much the only thing that has been brought up (personal preferences on saturation/music/edits aside) is an astounding testament to everything Ady got right. Hell - if we were to list everything he got right we'd be here all year!!

Now please. Someone. where is George????

I've just been gassing away about this at work Ady - everyone is very excited to see it! I think I actually talked them through all the changes - I was gushing for 20 minutes lol!

I have figured out what niggled about the music in the lightsaber fight though - its not that it is there, as I said b4 its your edit and I totally understand why you've put it in - but the music continues at the same volume as Han Luke and Leia turn up, and 3PO and R2 start moving to the Falcon. So you've got really heroic 'action' music as R2 and 3PO just stand there......its something they do in Torchwood: they had exciting music playing as a fella opened a drawer last week..
Is it worth knocking it back in volume for that bit?

I agree Ady - it should be Ponda's arm

Nobody is picking apart Ady's edit - everything has been offered as 'constructive' - Ady asked for people's opinions on the flipper a couple of pages back. Every post I have seen has been full of awe, respect and gratitude for what he has done. Plus a lot of wild excited gibbering!
