LOL The Worst Star Wars Costumes EVER!

Look at the link in the browser, though, it says worst costumes ever.

lordjedi: it now says that there is a missing plug in that needs to be installed so I guess that could be it. Again, my apologies for that.

2006 OT DVD: Well today's the day...

I thought you'd decided to get them. What changed your mind?
Although, I guess I should also say "1. No, 2. No" since I pre-ordered them June 9, 2006.

Well I admitted to going back and forth over the last few weeks in another thread but the last option as of a week or so ago I was on was "No". As of today, I'm still with that option. My main reasons are:

1. With each ad I see and how careful the wording is, I now firmly believe this is one big trick and we will be seeing the OUT again very, very soon. I've given Lucas A LOT of $ over the years and I am not interested in getting screwed over by him yet again....paying almost $45 (best price I found so far) for a shoddy product seems silly. I have a 16X9 TV and I paid a lot of $ for it for a reason, and I expect the products I purchase to take full advantage of what I have.
2. I do not want the SEs AT ALL so that makes this purchase even harder to swallow for me. In a sense, I will be paying $45 for inferior DVDs...hardly seems worth it.

I'm going to rent them and see what I think, especially when I have the screen zoomed in (which is YET ANOTHER problem for me b/c my TV won't allow for component viewing and Zoom at the same time, so I must watch in AV mode to be able to zoom *sigh*). If I really like them I will buy, but I am not holding my breath. I'm sure it will be farily easy for me to get my hands on anamorphic "Custom DVDs" in the coming months, so I will probably just wait for those.

I would make perfect sense for a remastered OOT to appear sometime in the future, and soon, particularly in the 2007 box. I just don't want to get my hopes up and then have them dashed.
I think Lucas is a pretty downright evil business man...smart, but evil. I sometimes feel like he made those comments in a mocking way, to get more people to buy them. He KNOWS and has known the demand for these is there, so for him to play it off like he is not sure is a total joke IMO.

Money talks and bullshit walks. Leonard Nimoy didn't like playing Mr. Spock either, but when he was offered enough money, he put the ears back on. Lucas has seen how pissed off fans got at the treatement of the OOT in the September release, and he knows that there is a market for a restoration. It's just a question of how willing he is to put aside his ego.

Well let's use the angle that he didn't want these OUT releases for a second. But they are out today anyway, aren't they? So he put aside his ego long enough to allow these to come out! If it can happen once, it is sure to happen again becasuse these are selling like hot cakes. LFL has shown us all time and time again that they will go back on their words, lie, bend the truth, etc., if they can make a buck off of it...IMO the OUT will be no exception, and we will see it again, completely remastered and restored...

This all really makes sense; test the waters with a cheap release if you're not sure there's a market right before the big boxed set comes out, then do it for the boxed set to make people buy it again, etc. But I just don't know if logic can apply to LFL. They need some vulcans.

IMO, that is exactly what they are doing, and why they are being so careful with the wording in all of their ads.

IMO Lucas had to be shown this was going to sell before he would give the go ahead to dump some money into it. I feel he is getting all the proof he needs and we WILL see it again, and very soon.

2004 / 2006 OT DVD: Crazy Idea

LFL are just trying to get rid of their excess 2004 stock since so few people want the 2004 discs anymore, presumably. What, I wonder, could they do to increase sales, especially for the 30th anniversary? Hmm.

Clean up the SEs, more changes (for the people that will buy into this), changes to the PT, a cleaned up OUT... To me, it's very easy to see that this whole thing is simply a way to get rid of the '04 SEs; they will be completely worthless next year...

*And hence why this is "Limited" because they only have/will only produce so many '04 SEs.

2006 OT DVD: The Crawl on Star Wars
Time
So Lucas recreated the crawl and tried to pass it off as the original? Gee, I'm shocked *yawn* One thing that led me to believe this was the original crawl, though, was the color of the text...very yellow-ish compared to the darker orange-ish color found on newer releases.

Well anyway, if it appears as if EOD has the TRUE original crawl, the shots used in EOD from the films are anamorphic, etc., then something else is in the works and the DVDs out today is simply a "warm up" release IMO.

Info Wanted: Anyone Planning on making Anamorphic versions using 2006 OUT DVDs?
Time
Thanks again, Dr. M!

Everyone Else, anyone notice that the TV commercials for this set aren't even saying the OUT is on the set? In fact they aren't saying that OUT is limited edition, they are saying "available individually for a limited time."

Are they playing with words? Are we next going to see the OUT as part of a boxset after they try to rook us for this crap release?

IMO, Y E S!!!! I think every ad and response from them is nothing but a play on words. Here are my responses in other threads re: the official trailer for the DVDs, and I would bet money that it all plays out this way:

I still think we need to read (and listen) between the lines here regarding the OUT and future releases, though, and I am convinced we will see it again soon. Even that trailer is careful to point out more than a few times, "For a Limited time only, own EACH movie of the Star Wars Trilogy INDIVIDUALLY on DVD." I feel that is how Lucas will get around the whole OUT being limtied thing in the future, because they will be bundled together, or without the SE, or with the PT...

Also, "As a special added VALUE bonus, the original theatrical version from 1977, 1980 and 1983." Value usually equals "just good enough for the money." Nothing will stop a better version for more money, and again, yet another way for Lucas to get around the whole "You will never see the OUT like this again" thing.

*****************

And exactly why I am considering NOT buying the 09/12 release now. After further thought, I DO think they are releasing it for the fans that have never seen it. They will then most definitely want it in future releases now (if nothing else than for "collection" purposes) whether alone, in a boxed set, etc.

See, the die-hard OUT fans already love it so Lucas(s) doesn't need them in his mind; he can wait as long as he wants and he still has their purchase if the release is done correctly. But IMO all of the younger and/or new fans will most certainly like the OUT now that they have had a chance to see it. Imagine the hype Lucas(s) will create when he tells those same people, "Hey guys, remember those OUT movies you saw for the first time via the 09/12 release, you know, the ones you loved due to [nostalgia/"missing" scenes/insert the reason here]? Well guess what....they are coming out cleaned up and restored! Anamorphic, choice of audio, bonus features on the discs...". No matter how Lucas(s) chooses to sell those, whether in a mega-boxed set, alone, whatever, they are guaranteed to sell very well!

So yeah, I really feel like this 09/12 release is a way to A) clear old SE stock for next year and B) rope new OUT fans in.

Info Wanted: Anyone Planning on making Anamorphic versions using 2006 OUT DVDs?
Time
Doctor M, I REALLY appreciate the time you are taking to explain this all to me and I am finding this very, VERY informative! Thanks so much! A few more questions/comments:

As far as stipping material, if you are converting down to a single layer DVD (DVD-5), absolutely strip extras, languages, and subtitles that are of no interest to you. I personally would probably just use the Movie Only Mode (since you probably don't care if your extras are anamorphic).
The more space you free up that way, the higher the encoding quality will be on the movie. This is true regardless of compression (transcoding) or re-encoding.
I want to keep the menus, though, so will I still get those? And if so, will they remain anamorphic since I heard that they are? If not, is it really that big of a deal that they won't remain anamorphic? If it won't be, then it won't be to me either, as I am more concerned about the actual movie than the menus. I want them if I can have them, sure, but they aren't a big deal to me really.

RE: "Movie Only Mode", I fished through the program but it doesn't appear that my free version (0.97) has that. I did a search and the only thing that came up was DVD Rebuilder PRO. Maybe I won't be able to do this then?

DVD-9s are pretty expensive I see, so I will probably be using a DVD-5. Since this will be my first attempt at something like this, it seems silly to waste the extra money. Right? Or will the quality difference be worth the extra $?

This is one reason some of us can't wait to play with HD content. They allows for true 24 frames. There is no NTSC and no PAL. Hopefully interlacing and telecining will soon be a thing of the past.
HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs don't even allow for 4x3 content, meaning non-anamorphic discs can't exist.

Wow, I had no idea! Now I am pretty sure we will see the OUT on the next format, and I'm sure Lucas didn't want to spend a dime because of what you just said; they are putting all their time and $ into the next format. Still no excuse, though.

And in your opinion, which format will be the one that takes off?

Thanks again, Dr. M!

You can also adjust for ITU aspect ratio and use any additional AviSynth filter you'd like (in case you want to tweak the picture while it's at it.)

Okay, I read various tutorials but I am still not sure what this means exactly. ????

In a nutshell, for what I am looking for, all I need to do is 1) rip the DVD 2) use DVD Rebuilder to make it anamorphic via the "Convert from LB 4:3 to 16:9" option 3) burn this new re-encoded version, correct? It seems as if there really aren't any settings I need to mess with or anything.

Also, it appears as if DVD Rebuilder will let me remove certain subtitles and elements I won't need (e.g. if there are French subtitles, Lego SW II demo, etc.), and will this make a difference in the quality, since not as much info will need to be on the disc? Or won't this matter since this is being re-encoded vs. being compressed?

And what about making the image Progressive? It seems as if it does by default since the original image is progressive but I could be wrong.

Heck, I would pick any OUT ld transfer over the SE, even If it meant that I could only barely make out a Wampa in a snowstorm!

I must say I was particularly nervous before playing Star Wars, but it is better than I had hoped, even though perhaps not as good as it should or could be!

For now though, this release will be quite adequate for me to enjoy the original versions of my favourite movies. Until something better comes along in the future at least.

Yeah, I can handle a lot in regards to poor quality if it is the OUT version and I would take that over a "pristine" SE ANY DAY! I've watched the [quickly wearing out] VHS versions for how many years now for God's sake...

Much of what you all are asking is in ADM's Editing Guide: http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=12&threadid=3444

Also, if you are just looking to go from your NTSC DVD to Anamorphic (though I would definitely go from PAL), grab DVD Rebuilder.
On a most basic level it takes a DVD-9 and lets you convert to DVD-5 by Re-encoding (NOT recompressing like DVD Shrink).
You can also go DVD-9 to DVD-9.

What IS important is a little check box that says "Convert form LB 4:3 to 16:9".

Hit go! You need little knowledge to do it that way, and you'll keep your closed captioning, subtitles, menus, EVERYTHING.

EDIT: Circuit City is listing the DVDs at $14.95 each this week. So far the cheapest price I've seen.

Thanks a lot, Dr. M! I am really only looking to go to anamorphic and nothing more so I downloaded DVD Rebuilder, read about it and messed with it a little. It seems like it may be slightly confusing at first but I am sure I will get the hang of it.

Best Buy is 16.99, or the tin is all three films for 59.99. (*cough*ripoff*cough*)

Target: Don't know price, but you get little conceptual art posters.

So I'd go for Circuit City if you're buying them.

Your Sunday Circuit City ad listed the price? Where? Mine, Mielr's and lordjedi's all dont...

However, the non-anamorphic picture of the original version is a real let down and I’m convinced it’s been a deliberate move to leave scope to sell us the anamorphic version rumoured for release next year.

Interesting. I know there are rumors about the '07 boxed set, but now there are rumors about an anamorphic OUT too? I imagine the reviewer is simply referring to the same rumor, but hey, you never know...
