The Shape of Water is actually the only Del Toro film I’ve seen, and I thought it was delightful. YMMV, but I found it to be a gorgeous celebration of being “other”.
Dude. Pan’s Labyrinth. Get on it.
Can you make a 4K version of this edit with HDR?
I’m sure he’d love to if you’d buy him a workstation and software that can handle working in 4K with HDR. 😃
how to get on myspleen.
I think a time machine is the only way to make that happen at this point.
Probably logistics more than slim interest, I’d volunteer if I wasn’t 3,000 miles away.
Yep. I’d put my hat in the ring, but Chicago is a bit far from the UK…
Jay’s trying to cordon off us nutcases into our own forum so we don’t infect the civilized parts with our insanity.
He doesn’t realize how deeply we’re entrenched already. We aren’t just a part of the forum…
…we are the forum.
Tell me, if someone were to say to you that abortion is not a huge and controversial issue, would you waste time trying to convince the guy that he was wrong?
Ok, I am going to re-word this to make crystal clear what I meant here.
Tell me, if someone were to say to you that 1 + 1 does not equal 2, would you waste time trying to convince the guy that he was wrong?
I don’t even know how to respond to this. 1+1=2 is an empirical fact. “Immigration is a problem” and “abortion is a problem” are not empirical facts, they’re opinions.
I’m not saying it isn’t a controversial issue. It clearly is.
You said that you don’t think abortion is a huge and controversial issue.
That’s exactly the opposite of what I said. Read my post again.
JEDIT: Dahmage got it.
Ok, why did we need to divide off topic into yet another section???
I just noticed it’s now three sections. My bad, didn’t realize there was an additional split.
Oh. My. God.
What?
For those uninterested in the random and higher drama threads
This was the exact reasoning behind the split.
I like everything about the one on the right except for the weird blue/violet Batty face in the corner.

I’m not saying it isn’t a controversial issue. It clearly is. I’m saying that I’d like to hear some of the reasons people think having much fewer restrictions on it is a bad thing, because I’ve yet to hear an argument that convinces me we need to be cracking down the way so many seem to think we do.
Note that everything I just said applies equally to my views on abortion, since you brought that up.
Basically, it’s a controversial issue because people think it’s a problem. I’m not convinced it’s a problem at all, and anytime someone here has been asked why they think it is, the answer seems to be “it just is” with no reasoning given.
I love how after multiple requests from multiple different people for someone to explain why illegal immigration is a problem, there’s been no response other than what boils down to “because it is one.”
Heres my first attempt at covers. These are Criterion-sized, credit for the backsides goes to the very talented Ronwlim.
Well Here’s a link to the album until I figure out why the image won’t embed.
I like your prequel logos, especially TPM. I was never entirely satisfied with how mine came out. And your take on the “middle” of the AOTC logo is interesting.
That’s part of the idea of my set I made based on phildesfr’s work. The only thing tying them to a particular version is the running time listed on the back. I haven’t yet made one for Solo, though, and need to update my TLJ.
Christ on a cross. . .
Why do some people say “Jesus H. Christ” or “Christ on a crutch”?
What is the “H” supposed to stand for, and why a crutch?I never understood why people say that.
“Crutch” might be a deliberate mispronunciation of “cross,” but I’m not really sure.
My theory regarding “Jesus H. Christ” is that in Catholic churches (and on other Catholic things) you’ll often see inscriptions like “JHC” or “JHS.” These stand for Jesus’ name (or in more recent times have been interpreted as a short form of “Jesus Hominum Salvator”, which is Latin for “Jesus Saviour of Mankind”), and are a transcription of the first three letters of his name in Greek (hence the variation between C and S). My guess is that some people, seeing that and not knowing what it meant, but knowing it referred to Jesus, interpreted it as his initials.
JEDIT: Hey, Wikipedia backs me up. It says that it’s common in the Anglican/Episcopalian Church as well, which is likely where exposure to the “JHC” abbreviation would have come in.
JEDIT: Oops, that wasn’t a JEDIT…
I grew up Episcopalian and I definitely remember “IHS” in our church. The Wiki article you linked says J used to be a variant of I instead of its own letter, and mentions the S/C transcription difference, but I never saw it with a J or a C myself.
People say “crutch?” I don’t think I’ve ever heard that one.
You have to be 18 to legally gamble in the US. I’ve never bought a lottery ticket, but I always just kind of assumed that they’d check my ID if I did.
The caps-lock police got him.
What Nate said. The hybrid download is crap, and it looks like whoever ripped the EE DVD did something to the color (either accidentally or intentionally) to screw it up. Your match is vastly superior.
I know the feeling, my friend…it sucks.
I wonder if some footage from this week’s episode of The Expanse could be used and modified to make Starkiller blow up the Hosnian System’s star instead of the weird beam-splitting thing that hits every planet individually. Plus there’s the added benefit that Starkiller would, you know…kill stars. Right now it’s more of a Star Eater.
Yeah, I think they’re missing the point that we purposefully don’t make money off of what we do so the studio lawyers don’t sue us into oblivion…
