Thanks. I got the subtitle working  but only one at a time. How do I do if I want multiple subs?

I've never run across software that does that, although I haven't been looking for it in particular.  Typically if you want two different languages at the same time, you have one dub with another subtitle.  Other than that, no idea.  If this is worth the effort to you, you could combine the two SRT files yourself into a combination subtitle file, I suppose, but it would be a lot of work.

Keep in mind that although I tried to keep all of my subtitles using the same timing whenever possible, they often do not--which means if you had two subs going simultaneously, dialogue would frequently get translated in one language before it got translated in another language, which could be a little weird looking.

Project Threepio (Star Wars OOT subtitles)
Time

Project files have been updated to version 5.0 (original post has been updated as well).  The new download links are NOT the same as before, so please PM me for the links.

Rough summary of changes:

Added seven new languages: Japanese, Polish, Romanian, Croatian, Hungarian, Greek, and Bulgarian.  Also fixed a major codepage problem with the Czech subtitles, so these are essentially new to this version too.  Also, I found a better (and free) CJK font, so the Chinese subtitles have been re-rendered.

All of the subtitles above are unverified subs, with the exception of Japanese.  The Japanese subtitles are a bit of an odd exception--they are available as scaled graphical subtitles (scaled from Standard Definition), but they are verified, so the quality of the translation is good, but unfortunately they don't look quite as sharp as the subtitles for other languages.  I was able to create forced SRT files from a totally different unverified source, but there are no full SRT files.  Simply put, OCR on Japanese text is hard, and requires significant manual correction which I am not able to do.

As for the difference between "verified" and "unverified"--basically all of the verified subs are, to some degree, checked against official subs and/or someone who speaks the language, so they may still have problems, but they're generally pretty good.  Unverified subs are just converted fansubs, and I have no idea if they're good or not, I only know they're the correct language and that Google translate more-or-less verified that they are somewhat accurate.  I suspect some of the unverified subtitles are excellent quality--Romanian and Chinese, for example.  Others may be problematic or terribly uneven between films.  But the primary goal is intelligibility--perfection can come later.

My "world domination map" is getting pretty full.  There's a pretty obvious big gap running through South Asia, and Korea is frustratingly missing, but other than that, things are looking pretty good.

And finally, after many offhand remarks about needing to take a break, I am really taking a long hiatus from this project.  I'll still be around the forums, but I won't be working on this very much, if at all, for quite a long time.  I've got a baby on the way and, well, that takes precedence over pretty much everything.

EDIT: Also updated the screenshots on my original post, because it's now passé to post screenshots with theatrically inaccurate colors ;)

FYI, the complete Project Threepio has pre-made SUP files for muxing onto DVD and Blu-ray.  No scripting required.

Then what are the .pl and .dll for?

They are included with the project in case people want to make alterations to the subtitles or add new languages.  I think Harmy just included them because he wasn't sure what they were for.  Take a look at the README file to see more about the project, it specifically says you shouldn't ever need to use the scripts under normal circumstances.

Take any more Project Threepio questions over to my thread, please (link in my signature).

Also, there may be a major update to Project Threepio in a few hours if I can get my act together...

International Audio (including Voice-Over Translations)
Time

I've recently learned the following about the Japanese dubs:

Star Wars and Empire were both shown theatrically dubbed; Jedi was shown theatrically exclusively with subtitles.  Later, entirely new dubs were made for all three films, using famous Japanese voice actors, and these dubs were used for home video releases.  These video dubs have become the most familiar/popular versions of the Japanese dubs.  The Japanese GOUT discs featured both dubs.

As for the dubs themselves, the only unusual bit I've found is that Greedo is dubbed over in Japanese (Jabba is not).  In the video dub, a little electronic distortion is added to his voice, probably to make it sound more alien.

Nice to hear that, there were some visible crushed blacks in the first release. Can you please tell me one example of completely crushed blacks that Harmy was unable to fix it?

I believe Snicker posted a Blu-ray shot of the DS landing bay, where you couldn't see as far down the hole the stormtroopers fell down because the shadows got completely black higher up than on other transfers.  But the thing is, while technically crushed, it didn't look unnatural--at some point the hole was going to get pitch black, the point just moved a bit.  I'd agree with Harmy, there may be some crushing here or there, but not enough to make it especially worse than any other transfer of another film IMO.

AFAIK, blacks that were truly crushed out of existence (the data is gone) could not be recovered except via Snicker's method which were not used here.  However, there are a LOT of cases where blacks were crushed to the point of imperceptibility (there was data to work with, just not visible), and Harmy was able to recover those.

EDIT:  I should mention that the torrent I downloaded from 1337x.org contained a badly damaged MKV, and though I had it recheck my download against the torrent, I was still left with a damaged MKV.  Fortunately, I was able to download it from another (non-torrent) site.

Crap, that's where I'm downloading from.  Anyone get a successful download from there?
