The DeEd’s are limited by the detail of their primary sources. The current Blu-rays, though 1080p, really don’t have any detail aside from sharpening artifacts above 720p. A better-mastered Blu-ray set (perhaps based on the Reliance 4K scans) could possibly form the basis of 1080p versions, or even 4K if the films actually have enough detail to justify that. My guess is that these better-quality versions of the SE’s (if they ever materialize) are likely to be quickly mooted by film scan preservations, so there’ll be little need to despecialize anything anymore after that. I do wonder if 2.5 might be the end of the line… unless we can gang up on Harmy and convince him to do another coloring pass on Star Wars 😉
FWIW, the difference between PAL and NTSC frames is so small you won’t notice it on most alternate tracks. Just ones with English audio–English tracks, commentary tracks, etc, and dubs that voiceover the English audio, like Russian, Polish and Ukrainian tracks. Even then some people don’t notice it–I only really notice it with Harrison Ford. So if you watch video with NTSC frames with German audio synced to PAL frames, you’ll be fine.

So is there a 93 version of Empire that’s different from the 80 mix?
Yes. The 93 mix is missing the sound effect for the snowspeeder crash which is present in earlier mixes. So, more accurately, the 93 mix for ESB is just a flawed version of the 80 mix, but nevertheless it’s different.

This thread should contain the info you need to make a PAL-based project sync to NTSC GOUT (by trimming and adding/duplicating frames):
http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/The-GOUT-Sync-Thread/id/17357
Also, I swear that you, Team Blu, and hairy_hen had already decided to standardize on NTSC GOUT in all new releases to avoid problems, because when that happened I went through all my audio and subtitle resources and switched them to NTSC. Ergh, please not again…
Yeah. I’ll use hh’s 5.1 audio, becuase it downmixes pretty well on stereo equipment, so people with both stereo and surround setups can enjoy it. Have there been any updated versions since the release of v1.0? And also, wasn’t there a version that syncs better with v1.0’s PAL-GOUT based sync? I’ve based the cut of this version on v1.0.
AFAIK 1.0 was his most recent version, and it’s synced to NTSC frames (doesn’t sync with ROTJ DE 1.0 well). If your new cut is based on NTSC frames, it will sync better using the same audio as 1.0. Otherwise I made one synced to PAL frames, but I really recommend going NTSC for your frames this time. PM me if you need anything.
Please please please Thai dub.
PM’s sent. Corrections can be posted here or PM’d to me–but please make sure you’re using the latest files from Project Threepio first. Star Wars in particular uses some older subtitles and I may have already incorporated corrections since then.

Found the sign-up link. In case anyone else is wondering, you need to go to the Despecialized Facebook page, and it’s there.
S’alright. I wasn’t trying to be critical regarding the number of times it’s been discussed, just saying that it’s more than just me weighing in with my opinion. Not that we can’t be collectively wrong.
Not answering the question at all, but giving it a bump and adding my own bonus question (hope that’s okay).
Whatever version they show, if a Chinese dub is created for it, just make sure the audio ends up my way. I am all over despecializing that.
This has been discussed many times elsewhere. The consensus seems to be – no, there’s no indication of there being an 85 mix for ESB and ROTJ of any sort, substantive or not. Minor differences reported from release to release are not inconsistent with the slight variation of a single mix applied over multiple releases.
Also AFAICT, there’s no content difference (i.e. different dialogue or effects) in the 93 mix of Jedi.
I know you’re probably collecting VHS tapes for some sentimental reason and there’s nothing wrong with that, but I do want to remind you that there are much, much, better ways out there to hear the 77/80/83/85/93 mixes.
So I know I’m old and the whole Internet thing baffles and frightens me, but am I the only one who doesn’t see any sign up link in, under, or near the YouTube video?

I’m assuming you re-entered the classic Jedi Rocks back in for goofs and gaffs, right?
Naw, the Rancor tentacle shoots at Han first.

It’s a more common story than you’d think. I actually know two separate people who went through very similar things (one had to drive hundreds of miles to get the procedure that would keep her from dying from blood poisoning from her stillborn twins). It is very personal and many people don’t talk about it, so people tend to think they’re alone. Thank you for sharing, Frink.
I’m sure somewhere on the Internet, someone must have mentioned that an episode number that wasn’t there before was added in 1981, leading to this thread. The episode number in question was Episode IV, with the new title A New Hope, added the the film previously known only as Star Wars. Empire was always Episode V from day one.
No, you have to use a special UDF filesystem to be Video-DVD compatible. If it’s not the right filesystem, your player will see it as a data disc and may not do anything with it. I’d recommend ImgBurn–I understand it works in Wine so you could technically get it running on a Mac. Also, you may find some option menu in the software you’re using where it gives you filesystem options–you want a video DVD, not a data DVD.
And who knows, if in the meantime I find a good enough reason to live life, I can quit then.
Here’s where your basic pessimistic outlook on life may actually help. Sure, you can imagine a happy shiny world where you find a reason to live, cut way the hell back on your drinking in time to save your liver, and live happily ever after. You can even image a not-so-shiny world where you fail to find a reason to live, your liver fails, and you’re no longer bound to this mortal coil. But you know what would be decidedly un-shiny? What would be the worst possible thing? You find a reason to live, but you also find out that your liver is shot and you’re not long for the life you’ve grown to love. Now, I’m not actually trying to be heavyhanded here–as a lifelong pessimist, I really can’t help but see things certain ways. Consider your options carefully and completely. Please.
