Ah....I see. I'd like to see the whole thing forgiven and just be a reminder that this kind of stuff isn't allowed here.

Took a pair of scissors to the SEs and the artwork....

That "asshole" you speak of at least paid you for them, maybe that person deserves a little more thanks from you than that, don't you think....he DID help you get the set for free??

1. I already explained why I didn't post elsewhere.

Just cuz you want people to read your threads DOES NOT give you the right to flaunt BBS etiquette. This thread CLEARLY belongs in the OFF TOPIC forum and it will be moved when the mods see this. Nothing gives your ego the right to clutter the forum with an unrelated topic just to satisfy your desire for attention.

And who exactly is it that's "Back?"

I'm thinking he might be adamwankenobi.

Finally saw it last night!!!

What an excellent movie!!! It had it all....a good story, heart and soul!!! Most of all, it was touching. I felt for all the characters, expecially Rock. Even Dixon wasn't really one dimensional like most of the fluff characters that get thrown at us from Hollywood.

Stallone still has his touch and I hope he brings some more good movies our way. Hollywood would do good to watch this movie and take it to heart. This is how films USED to be made...with substance, heart...not CGI-laden, boring, nonsense story garbage.

Thanks Sly!!! You're still the man!!! Now knock my head off with a good Rambo movie!!!

their imperfections are horribly exaggerated.

Disagree totally. This isn't some cheapo set of Jackie Chan movies that no one ever heard of. This is Star Wars, one of the biggest box office smashes of all time and a pop culture icon. For it to be released in anything but pristine quality is inexcusable. The LEs were nowhere near pristine quality and it is apparent as all hell with all the grain. The biggest thing though is the anamorphic issue which in today's age is insulting. These movies are unwatchable on a widescreen TV which is becoming the PREVALENT form of presentation. These versions are terrible in both quality and presentation. They are unwatchable on modern technology. That is not exaggerated. That is fact, sir.

As for thought of it happening after Lucas passes away? Well, if that's the case, then I'd rather not get them. I mean seriously, I'd give almost anything in the world for these DVDs, but does a human being have to die just for me to get some discs? No thanks.

Whoa there dude!!! I didn't say I wanted Lucas to pass away. I don't want anyone to die just to give me some movies I love. That's fricking insane. I'm just saying that once Lucas passes on, then he won't be there to stop someone for putting it out and we'll finally get the OOT remastered.

I'm not wishing death on the man nor am I praying for his natural demise...I'm just saying that that's probably the circumstances it will take for us to get what we want. I wish the man long life actually. He's brought all of us into a larger world and our lives are bigger than any movie. We just disagree with how he's handling things lately.

That's pretty much what I will do too.

If there's no OOT remastered on this set, I'm gonna do my own preservation set with the movies and all the vintage stuff. It will be all the old artwork and when it's done and in my collection on my DVD shelves, that's it. SW is dead and over for me. I will not buy ANYTHING SW, I will not see ANY Lucas films ever again, nor will I pay any attention to their television offerings. Fuck Star Wars. Fuck Indiana Jones. Fuck Lucas and fuck giving him any money.

Not like he will care either....and neither will I.

I would like to echo the sentiments many have expressed already....

OCP is a valued member who had done top-notch work. I've dealt with him and it was always a pleasure. I think it's wrong what he did and I agree with his banning. What he did put the existence of this site in jeopardy.

I think this whole issue is so touchy because none of us really want to see him banned. His work is amazing and it's tough to see someone who contributed so much to this community go down in flames like that.

I only hope that sometime and somehow, he can come back to the community and continue to knock our socks off with his work. I know that's probably not possible ever, but I hope it can change.

I'm hearing all you guys and I agree with ya totally.

Lucas releasing the OOT in 2006 was a major step, but for me it seemed like he did it very begrudgingly. It just came off like he was tired of people bugging him about it...not just the fans, but probably people like Jim Ward too...and released it without any effort whatsoever thrown into it. That to me doesn't bode well for any future releases, but I sure as hell hope I'm wrong.

As for whether this 30th anniversary set will sell.....I agree that unless it has a restored OOT, it will probably be a bomb. I don't know how they think that some more changes to the OT and the PT will make anyone buy this, especially if there isn't any good extras. Most people already own the movies in one form or another.

Lucas and the people who run his businesses HAVE TO REALIZE that they are sitting on the "MOTHER OF ALL FILM BOX SETS." And it is approaching the 30th anniversary of the series. If they don't put out anything else than UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLY AWESOME, they are the biggest bunch of retards the world has ever known. If this set sucks, it will put them in the Britney Spears realm of retarded.

There's a lot more riding on this than they think. This set had better have EVERYTHING. The movies in their final versions, the original OT and all the vintage and new documentaries, blah blah blah. If it doesn't, then I ain't buying shit. As it stands now......WE could do a better box set than Lucas can!!!

I'm not trying to put anyone down here....

...but I think anyone who seriously believes that we'll see the OOT remastered in this upcoming box set is out of their fucking mind!!!

Lucas has gone through a lot to try and make those original versions disappear. He's said it will cost millions to do a proper restoration. He claims they aren't what he intended all along. He made the prequels specifically to fit with these "newer" versions. Everything he's said and done has indicated to me that he wants the OOT to just disappear. The OOT will be in the same category as the Holiday Special. Lucas just plain ignores that and we'll NEVER see that on DVD, not even as a gag feature. He can't treat the OOT like that just yet cuz he hasn't gotten a completed saga out there to take the OOT's place. That's what this box set will be. It'll be a finished saga and therefore the OOT can then be relegated to the garbage bin just like the Holiday Special.

But like a lot of you, I hope I'm wrong. I don't think I am though. We won't see a remastered OOT while Lucas is still breathing...when he kicks the can, then his kids will get talked into releasing it by businessmen....THEN we'll get what we want. And I agree....it's sad in the worst possible way.

What everyone forgets about the SW is that the story wasn't always centered on Darth Vader, and that is why 'starting with Episode I' in 1977 is a total fallacy, and in some ways why it doesn't even work today.

There was no backstory in 1977, there was no Episode IV back in 1977, and there sure as hell wasn't a Darth Vader character arc back in 1977 either. SW, the movie that came out in 1977 WAS the story, and that is why Lucas made it. Now sure he had other ideas for sequels and that is why Darth Vader didn't die at the end, and sure he had to write a short backstory on each character like ObiWan, The Empire, Darth Vader, etc, but not a backSTORY, meaning this grand story that led up to everything in Episode IV as it is presented today.

Holy hell, man!!! Just wait till Gomer reads this!!! He'll say that Lucas had a master plan from the very beginning and no one can dispute that!!!

I totally agree though that Lucas didn't have any of that crap worked out. He probably had basic backstories on all the characters...like one paragraph deals that give an idea of who and what the character is. He might have a general idea on what the backSTORY was, but after the movies started getting made and things changed during the filming process, those changes rendered anything he wrote prior to filming irrelevant. Hence, there was no grand vision or master plan. Everything has been in flux from the day he started ACTUALLY making these movies. Anything that came before that is just a rough draft in my opinion.

If Lucas put out TPM in 1977, even in a more adult tone, it would have done two things: failed miserably or caught on as this niche movie fanbase of scifi fans. Why SW was successful in 1977 was in some ways the mind blowing effects that NOBODY saw at the time, but the characters and story were the reason EVERY moviegoer could love it. Characters like Luke, Leia, and Han were totally relatable to the average Joe, the story of good vs evil and good winning in the end was the oldest and most successful type of story to tell, and that is why people like me who are not big scifi fans LOVEEEEE SW.

Absolutely....the story is what made the movie so all encompassing to people.

This is a great topic, cause I believe it can't even be speculated about, cause it just wasn't there in 1977. After the success of SW in 1977, Lucas juggled everything around and that is when he really had a direction he wanted to take the saga, but the bottom line is alot of that stuff just aint in ANH, cause it wasn't invented yet.

After 1977, Lucas changed Darth Vader being Lukes father, and then in ROTJ he developed the idea of his redemption and being Leias dad too. So my point is that this whole backstory, or Prequel trilogy, or Darth Vader character could have never been thought of in 1977, cause Lucas did not even have that storyline in mind yet.

Clearly, SW was an evolution of a story, not a distinctly defined plot from the beginning. He was making shit up as he went and it clearly shows. I think he was more than likely lifting stuff from his original treatment and using it as he went along making the movies. Not really the best way to tell a story, I think. It just seems like Lucas changes his mind too much and you can't do that with stories all the time. You can change things, but only so far. You still need a basic framework you have to stick to or things start falling apart like dominos.

I think a great topic to start is what if the PT were made from 1986 to 1992? How different would it be if Lucas made the PT right after ROTJ? I think it would have been alot better, and would have matched up with the OT so much more, cause he would have used the same type of technology he had from 77-83, he wouldn't have had 16 years to come up with TOO many new ideas, and I believe he wouldn't have been as hands on as he was from 99-05. The PT would look like the OT if it were made in the late 80's, it would feel like the OT, and I think it would have been more accepted by the diehard OT fans, cause the bottom line is many of us accept an inferior ROTJ to SW/ESB, but it doesn't ruin those movies like the PT does.

I think the PT made in the 80s would have rocked the hell out of us. One of the downfalls of the PT was that Lucas waiting too damn long. He shouldn't have let us catch a breath after Jedi. Maybe given it a year or two and then launched into it. That would have been much better.

So true about accepting the inferior ROTJ...I'll take the Ewoks over Jar Jar any day.

You would think the PT would be better if he made it first, but I don't think that would be the case. It would be if it was anyone else other than George Lucas.

I think he would make them all by the seat of his pants and then release edition after edition, trying to fix what he should have done right from the start.

The PT was a no brainer. The OT pretty much dictated what had to happen. Lucas did the exact opposite of what he should have done and look what happened....

So no...it wouldn't be better!!!
