You DO NOT want to get me started on the "content supervisors" bullshit. I fucking HATE those people. The worst is the message board at starwars.com. I hate that overmoderated piece of shit board.

You can't say even the slightest negative thing or BAM...closed thread. You can't repeat anything either. It's the only board I know where they tell you not to post....but to read through the threads for what you want to post about....even if it's on like page 120 or something.

I was going to head over there and get myself permanently banned. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do? I don't want to spam or troll or anything. I just want one great post that causes me to get a permanent lifetime ban.

This article in the link below, which was just published on StarWars.com today, pretty much proves your point exactly, Cable X-1. StarWars.com basically spells it out for everyone. It's quite pathetic to read actually. Take a look:

http://www.starwars.com/welcome/about/news/f20051223/indexp8.html

That list was laughable........each response I had was..."Big Deal." Nothing on there is really mind blowing....including Episode 3. Every news item that SW.com puts out sounds like great corporate spin to me. Bottom line....they just want to part you with your money.

Sorry, not this OT fan.

Check out the girl on the bottom row, first one on the left. She's right behind Han Solo's head.

I saw this girl at Celebration 3. WOW!!!! That picture does not due her justice. She is one hot babe....EVERYONE wanted a picture with her. Her outfit was absolutely perfect...believe me, I looked enough and she had THE most killer body I have ever seen. I sooooo wanted her to be my slave!!!!

This theory has popped up in my mind too. I seriously get the impression sometimes that Lucas really doesn't like SW. He is defined, yet trapped by it. ANYTHING he does will be compared to it.

Why he would want it to erode like it has is beyond me.....but, it is just a theory....there is no proof whatsoever.

At C3, I did get the impression that he is a bit uncomfortable with the whole thing. Might have just been being in front of a crowd like that though.

They're both really so different you can't compare the two, but both have their appeals.

I never thought I would actually prefer Trek over Star Wars, but I'm actually just about there.

Is Star Trek really that bad?

I love Star Trek and Star Wars. Trek has been on a decline for some years now, so it isn't what it used to be. But I never would have picked Trek over Wars until recently with all the stuff that's gone wrong with SW.

Hey Cable, how do you feel about those Playskool (or whatever company) Star Wars toys? The kiddie ones with the big hands and feet?

You know....I actually like them....they're unusual. I haven't bought any and don't plan to, but I do think they are one of the stand-outs.

Not EVERYTHING is bad......just most of it.

The one thing I forgot to mention is the Unleashed line of figures from Hasbro. I used to collect those and then got rid of them. For anyone who isn't familiar with these, you didn't play with these figures....you simply put them on the shelf and admired how much they looked and they looked NICE!!! They were very detailed and were downright beautiful. It was like having a mini-statue of the character and only cost a fraction of the price. The line was a really, really, really great thing. And then late last year or early this year, Hasbro said they were overhauling the line......and making it a 2 inch figure line. A 2 INCH FIGURE?!?!?!?!?! They were originally about 7 inches and now they were going to be 2?!?!?!?!?! I had one word for that.....BULLSHIT!!!

So, I am still a little burned about that cuz those figures were nice. It seems anything that is targeted at the older audience is getting thrown out the door. Those figures were clearly designed for older collectors.

Well, he supervised the process of implementing said changes. Being the control freak that he is - he was in fact the person who actually wanted changes made to SWG in the first place (his argument was that SWG didn't match the quality of the other StarWars games).

I was actually looking forward to the changes, since I'd like to have a good StarWars Online-Rpg to play. Yet take a look at what they did: they just cut down the complexity and furthered a mistake that was made in the first place - attempting to cater to the "tourism spirit" instead of investing the work in a believable StarWars universe that takes the player beyond the terretorial borders of the movies.

I do also blame Jim Ward of course, for he seems to have the talent to encourage George Lucas the business man, but not George Lucas the artist.
I'll try to find the article with the Lucas statement again. I'm not sure, but I think it was on IGN.

Edit: Well, I'm too lazy to look for the article. Even that article could have been false or biased, so I'd say in the end it's all us and the media speculating. I never meant to say he fired up his C++ and made the changes himself. Alas, the article I had read clearly stated that the impulse for change came from George Lucas, as he (or perhaps one of his kids) was dissatisfied with the game's quality.

That explains a lot.....Lucas' kids are responsible for all this garbage.

The Sad State Of Star Wars

I've been noticing things a lot of things in the last 6 months to a year that have led me to believe that SW is in a crappy state of affairs. Here's what I've observed.....

The Movies
The changes to the OT continue with the 2004 releases with rumors circulating on more changes for some future release, possibly 2007. The prequels are now even rumored to be receiving the special edition treatment, adding to the fact the very strong opinions as to the quality of the films when they were released.

The Toys
I've always paid attention to the SW toy situation. I used to regularly visit rebelscum.com to see what was getting released. Over the last year, there have been a lot of complaints about repacks of various figures while other seemingly important characters are going unnoticed. Hard to believe that as of the ROTS release, we still haven't had a carded release of Wedge Antilles, but we got scores of repacked Cantina Han Solos. I don't even collect this stuff and I know that. Comes from listening to constant complaints about who's running Hasbro these days. A recent visit to creaturecantina.com resulted in reading a list of the best and worse SW toys of 2005. Seems to be a bit of dissatisfaction with quality. Many toys are being made pretty crappy, it seems.

The Games
This is something I pay attention to as I like the SW games. First there's the KOTOR 2 poochscrew. They released the game last xmas when the game wasn't even completely finished and it was royally obvious that the game was finished either. Then there's the Galaxies situation playing itself out now. The game recently went through a total overhaul that negated much of the time and effort many players went through to build up their characters since the game's release 2 years ago. Then there's the Jedi Knight 2/Jedi Academy issue. Jedi Academy is basically a glorified mod for Jedi Knight 2. Jedi Academy was what Jedi Knight 2 should have been. JK2 was released in April 2002 and JA was released in August 2003 and featured scores of things that weren't in JK2. The funny thing is when you play JA, the saber moves are flawed majorly when the JK2 saber moves are pretty damn good.

The Books, etc.
I don't read them much anymore, but since the prequels came out and the EU shifted toward that time era, I noticed a lot of opinions that the quality of the EU has dropped sharply. From some of the stuff I've skimmed, I would agree. Why do you have to buy a book series to explain unanswered questions from the movies when the movies should have done that in the first place? Is it possibly to sell more books, I don't know.

Celebration 3
I was there and I can honestly say that it was not that great. Aside from Lucas being there, it wasn't noteworthy at all. They had a lot of guests signing autographs, but there weren't any of the BIG, BIG names. The dealers weren't that impressive with their wares. The exhibits were too crowded and you couldn't get in to see half the shows that were offered. The place was oversold and was WAY TOO crowded. You could barely move through it at all. Fan Club membership meant nothing. They were selling memberships at the event which meant that EVERYONE was in the fan club...all 36,000 people who showed up. So much for special fan club only stuff. The C3 store was a complete disaster. No one could get in at all. The line for it was 7 to 8 hours long and they closed it up when they realized they didn't have enough stuff. And the party held on Saturday night was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. If it wasn't for alcohol.....

This is all I an think of right now, but it seems that SW is on a general decline in terms of quality. The only field I can speak with authority is the games cuz I've played those and know of what I speak. The rest is just what I've heard from people who have experience in whatever part of SW they like (toys, books, etc). It just seems to me that the whole franchise has shifted to a cash cow kind of mentality....as in let's make the most amount of money we can.

What do any of you think? Are SW products and the franchise as a whole on a decline?

Sorry to post so long.....can't get to sleep.

Now force user classes are openly available from the beginning and basicly the "improvements" Lucas wanted to have, merely turned out as a weak attempt to copy the leader of the genre - Blizzard Entertainment and it's "World of Warcraft".

Now I know it's always easy to blame him, but in this case, I don't think Lucas is the one that made or wanted the changes.

Sorry, gotta agree with Adam....Lucas has nothing to do with this.

I think it's SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) that dropped the ball on this. In one of the mails in that link, it mentions that some of the other MMORPGs that SOE runs have had some changes put to them as well. It's my experience that Sony makes great Audio/Visual equipment, not stuff like this.

Of course, LucasArts is probably to blame somewhat as well. After the KOTOR 2 debacle, I think they're just out for the almighty dollar, not quality games. Sad cuz they used to be known in the mid to late 90s as one of the best game producers out there. That all seemed to fall apart around 2000 or so, I think.

SWG is a complete joke. It had potential, but they screwed it royally. I feel sorry for the people who played for 2 years and built up a character, only to have it completely swept away with these changes. I know I'd be plenty pissed off.

Thanks you two for posting that info for me.

I've been vaguely aware of SS since around AOTC. The guy is nothing more than a bullshit artist. He has no life whatsoever. I couldn't concieve of anyone going this far with jokes like that.

I don't think he needs to be thrown of the internet....he just needs to get laid. If that picture of him is real, then you can tell right there that he's no chick magnet....probably has no friends and gets a sick, little thrill from the crap he does.

This is a total loser in life, people. A fine example of what not to become.

This is hysterical!!!!

November 15, 2005.....that was when my year subscription expired and I quit playing a looooong time before that.

I never really got into the game. I found it to be too much work. I didn't have the time and inclination to play it seriously. ROTS turning out to be shit (IMHO) didn't help matters for me either.

The fact that they did such a drastic and intense overhaul means that the game is failing big time. They wouldn't do anything that big if they were still getting decent numbers playing on their servers.

The game was very flawed when it came out....I know....I played it on release, but I stuck with it and I thought it did improve....there were just a lot of bugs to be worked out and many, many adjustments. Many people believed the game shouldn't have been released for another year or two, but they were working overtime to get it out there for Episode 3 promotions and all.

I predict in a year this game will fold completely.

Wouldn't be necessary if he had done the prequels right the first time and then there wouldn't be any need to cut or re-edit anything, eh?
