You know....when you really think about it, this whole changing business is really stupid and frankly, I feel a bit cheated. I pay money to see movies in the theater, but they're not the "finished" movie cuz the directors or whoever goes back and changes stuff. So you're basically not seeing a finished product.

Whatever happened to going to see a movie and that's the way the movie is forever. The OOT was like that, barring an addition to the opening scroll in SW. We've been enjoying those versions for years.....only to learn that they're not the finished product. This isn't limited to Lucas and his madness. It happens with a lot of movies. You see it in the theater and then when it gets to DVD, it's an "expanded" edition.

My personal opinion on it all is DVD is a new format that offers a better method for filmmakers to tell their stories. Why should I pay to see a movie in a theater when it isn't the version that will be available for the rest of eternity.

Seems to me that the day of the theater is over. Should just release stuff directly to DVD cuz we're getting ripped off in more ways than one at the theater. It's kind of funny cuz most filmmakers like Lucas love the theater and by doing all their stupid tinkering, they're killing the theater....at least to me cuz I'm very likely to NOT see a movie in the theater for just this reason. I'd rather see the "finished" product...even if I have to wait to see it on DVD.

We're a small group and we're at the mercy of Lucas here. I do believe that if it sells well, then there may be some hope, but there was an earlier poster about this killing the bootleg market that I agree with too.

This release amounts to pretty much a legal bootleg. It's the same thing that all the bootlegs are, maybe just a tad bit better. This will take a huge chunk out of the bootleg market at conventions and such. But doesn't it also mean that LFL can go after bootleggers now, if they choose? I just can't help but think that this really could end the bootleg market...especially if LFL turns into total dicks and starts hunting down the people on this site who've worked so hard to preserve the OOT.

I find it unsettling...that's all...

WTF???

Hopefully, these DVDs will leak out early and we'll get some early reviews....cuz I am now seriously wondering if I even want them. Stick with the bootlegs....at least, they haven't been jacked with....

This is all just so sad and pathetic......why can't these movies get treated with any respect at all?

Anyone know if Sansweet is going to be at the Chicago Wizard World? I wanna chew his ass out....

You know what kills me the most......is why aren't more artists like this aren't coming forward and condemning this stuff. More so...why aren't film critics and preservationists coming out about this crap. Why isn't Leonard Maltin squacking about preserving important films like Star Wars? Probably cuz they're all industry hacks who suck off the powers that be........

I agree.....if this was anamorphic.......I would buy this and would never buy it again. It would be good enough for me.

but I firmly believe that this isn't the last we'll see of the OOT on DVD.


Now I do believe this isn't the last time, but there's always a shadow of a doubt...especially when we're dealing with Lucas. He changes his tune every other day....so we really don't ever know what to expect with Lucas.

Think about it...this whole OOT situation is the ultimate catch 22.

We want the OOT in the best possible way, but Lucas won't do it for whatever reasons/lies he conjures up. We on the other hand, are completely screwed here. If we don't buy it, Lucas will think no one wants it and therefore, we think we'll never see the OOT EVER. If we do buy it, we make the little bastard richer in which case he'll dangle the OOT in front of us again at some point and we'll be right back in the same situation.

I mean....really think about it.....that is some EVIL businessman tactics there. Lucas knows what the hell he's doing. Artistic freedom/creativity be damned. He KNOWS exactly what he's doing....and there's really nothing we can do about it. The majority of us here are GOING to buy it.

The only way out I would say for us.....is to simply buy it in September. If Lucas never releases it again...hey...we have it. If he finally does release it again restored and done right, then buy that......but keep in mind that when you finally get what you want, then that's it....don't EVER buy it again.

I'll buy it in September and if he does offer it again done right, then I'll get that....but after that, screw it. No HD or Blu Ray or whatever. I'll get it on standard DVD and that's it.

...only solution I can come up with....I don't like it, but what can ya do....we might be the fans, but hell....we're totally powerless here.

I got close to the source at Celebration 3 though....was going to confront Lucas face to face in the Q&A they had there, but they closed it down when I was only two people away.....AND......they were screening questions.

Besides....like we're going to get a straight answer out of anyone at LFL or Lucas himself.......

This review pretty much sums up what I feel....I just don't care anymore. All I want are the originals in the best possible way and that's that.

I know I've said I won't give Lucas another cent, but I will be buying these for the originals and shitcanning the 2004 version and the packaging. I'm simply taking the disks and putting them in some cd envelopes and storing them in a trunk in my closet. They'll last at least a century on those disks, so that will be good enough for me.

After that though, I don't care anymore. I'm tired of this crap and I'm through with Lucas. No nostalgia, no stories, no nothing. I just want my OOT and then I want to forget about Lucas, Lucasfilm, Star Wars and everything to do with it.

And yeah...if a better release comes out eventually, I will get it, but I won't be happy about it. But once I do get that better release, I won't EVER buy another. I mean, seriously...buying umpteen releases of the same 3 to 6 movies is ridiculous. I don't have money falling out of my ass, George. Glad you do....but I don't. So take your ultimate, mega, super special edition release and shove it far up your ass and just give me my friggin' OOT.

Sorry, went off there.....

Just getting tired of the gimmicks....not just with Star Wars though...with all movie and music releases....there's always some special release coming out....whatever happened to one release and that's it?

This totally kills the argument that we fans who so desire the OOT are crazy.....look, Luke Skywalker himself thinks not releasing the OOT is retarded!!!

Come on George....now just release them in the best possible way.

You know...why do we have to fight every inch of the way on this? Should releasing these movies in a dignified manner be a no-brainer???

For the record, it was MeBeJedi who convinced me. He identifiied with what I was trying to do and then convinced me not to do it in a polite and non-condescending manner. Hear that, Zion?

I still think it would be fun though.....but I see how it could be bad for the board.....if I can't get banned, could I at least kick Lucas in the nuts somehow???

Well......I knew there would be SOMEONE who would say this......so I can't be THAT completely detached from reality. I realize what I'm doing, so I can't be that far gone, right?

Zion, seriously man.....don't you think we're a little PAST the point of rationality anymore. The OOT has been butchered with more changes than we can shake a stick at. After fighting endlessly to get them released on DVD, we've finally gotten them, only to have them presented in an incredibly sub-par way that is genuinely insulting. To top that off, we've pretty much been told that nothing is going to be done about it and that we're "lucky" we're getting them at all. Then there's the prequels which are alos sub-par in almost every level except special effects. WE have been LIED to forever by Lucas, telling us that the SEs are his original vision, that the PT is his original vision and that it's unfortunate that we're fallen in love with films that Lucas considered "rough drafts."

I mean....come on man.....it's tough to be an OOT SW fan these days, dude. I think we've earned the right to cut loose a little.....

You get a hold on reality, dude.....lock the thread if you've got an issue with it. But I will lose all respect for you cuz you won't be any better than those mods on SW.com who lock every thread that goes against the grain.

Really....like all the posters on SW.com are going to come here....cuz of me!!! You're putting that much emphasis on what I say??? Reality check there, Zion. Reality check dude.

I'd also like to gloat on the younger fans about how they "missed" out on good SW films. Sorry, young fans....but it is true. The glory days were a long time ago......don't sweat it though. They'll be more good stuff down the road....it just won't be SW, that's all.

yeah...something silly like that would probably get me banned.

I was thinking more along the lines of....the SW forum is over-moderated and there is no such thing as freedom of speech. The mods there are all over-zealous wankers who are basically sucking someone off to be a mod. Then I can start in on how Lucas is not the genius we thought he was and that the PT is a bunch of sub-par films devoid of creativity and talent storywise. Then I can go off on how SW is basically a cash cow and that all the fans/sheep who worship Lucas should just keep forking over money and continue saying "Baaahhhhhahahahaha." Then I can launch into the OOT on DVD travesty.......

Anyone care to elaborate on any of that?
