Absolutely...forgot to mention that in my OP. That selectable crawl is what made the difference to me. I like having the choice. I just think the EditDroid offers more than the official release. What the officials lack, the EditDroid more than makes up for.


eros, I'm not seeing the second image so I can't comment on it. Remember I said that differences are so miniscule (to an untrained eye such as mine) that it comes down to a personal choice.

Naturally I've compared the official release with my bootlegs and here's what I found....

I compared the official Star Wars release with the EditDroid bootleg. Here's my comclusion...

There is a noticable difference between the two, but remarkably, it's not in either's favor. Now realize something first, I am a total LAYMAN when it comes to filmmaking, video or audio production, DVD production, whatever. I know exactly 100% jack shit. But here's what I've noticed.

The official release is sharper and more clear than EditDroid, but there is a TON of grain. It could wake you up from a deep sleep, it's that noticable. Now the EditDroid has a softer picture (meaning less sharp and less clear, but only a little IMHO), but there is VERY, VERY LITTLE grain. So overall, one has what the other doesn't and vice versa. It's six to one and half a dozen to another. What gets me is that I'm completely inexperienced with this stuff and I totally noticed the differences between the two, they were that apparent. So it's not that I'm basing this comparison on miniscule details that really don't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I don't think one is really better than the other. Each one has weaknesses that are the other's strengths. I would put both on equal ground and the choice would have to be a personal one.

In the final analysis, I think the EditDroid is a better version than the official release. It might not have the clarity of the official, but it's less grainy and is a better overall presentation...for me, that is. I don't see the point in buying these DVDs when I have boots that I believe are better. The only reason I can see for buying this is the legality issue and that's it. They are a legal release and that gives you all the benefits that go with that.

After making the comparison, I have decided to return the unopened tin I have. No sense in wasting money on this. I have my boots and an official release. Until something better comes along, that's all I really need.

With the legal release issue in mind, that's the only reason I can see myself picking this up should I change my mind. And I seriously doubt that cuz there's better things to spend my money on.

That's my two cents.....comments and suggestions.

ESHBG - KUDOS to you for standing by your principles!!! I know exactly where you're coming from. I have the same problem with all things Star Wars. I have begun purging anything and everything that was released from 1997 up. Video games, books, etc. etc. Didn't really have that much to begin with, but I don't want anything from that time on cuz to me, there's something amiss with Lucas and LFL. They aren't putting out good products anymore. There is an occasional surprise, but overall, their products really bite IMHO. I just want to forget everything that happened from the SEs on. So I understand your principles here. Handing over hard earned cash for a crap product....ain't gonna happen here.

As for this thread, I voted no. I'm returning the unopened copy I have. My sister and brother-in-law's brother can enjoy theirs, but I'm getting my money back. I've checked out my sister's copy and I'm less than impressed....

No way I'm taking shit and saying thanks, George.

He was playing devil's advocate there and he was not taking any clear stance for or against it either. He was saying that as long as ppl dish out the money, they're never going to give us what we want. It's an endless circle then. We're caught between a rock and a hard place. He should be sympathetic with consumers and he didn't say that it was right or wrong. That's what I have a problem with. He's making THE FANS out to be the bad guys when it's LUCAS who's the bad guy here. We're not asking for much....just a remastered OOT in anamorphic. Is that really so much to ask?

The guy who made that comment is named Lore Sjoberg, a columnist for "Wired News."


Oh shit!!! Now that is funny, man.....I told the wrong guy to fuck off!!! I'm tearing up here.....that is funny!!! Digital Bits listed two names that appeared with Bill Hunt...I thought that was the two he appeared with. And I watched that video like three times too. Cable FUCKED up there!!!

I bought them with low expectations and they haven't even really met those. Pretty sad, huh? I was figuring that seeing them might sway me and it really hasn't.

And I bought 3 total. 1 for my sister. 1 for my brother-in-law's brother and 1 for me. My sister let me open her's to look at so I can decide if I want the one I bought or if I should return it. Is that clear enough any? Plus I'd thought I'd share the scans and such with everyone here, seeing that there are people here who do hard work on their own DVDs of the OT and they might want to see what they're competing against.

Why own JUST ROTJ, dude? Get lost, kid...you're bothering me.

Well....I've finally gotten a chance to look at the release. I bought 3 of the tins at Best Buy (for me and for two other people). I haven't opened mine yet, but my sister said I could open hers to check it out. If I liked what I saw, I wouldn't return mine.

Here's what I saw....

This release really doesn't look all that bad. There is a shitload of grain and such in SW. It's fucking all over the place!!! If you can get past this, it's not bad....not good, but not bad.

Sorry to say, the animated menus are retarded.

The thing I liked the most was the tin. It is kinda cheap and all, but it does look pretty neat even if it isn't perfect.....get rid of the roman numerals and the episode titles and the fucker would be perfect. I'm thinking of screwing with it somehow to eliminate that crap so I can use it for my own bootleg set.

I'm REALLY on the fence here.....I like it cuz it is the OOT.....but I hate it cuz it's giving Lucas money for a shit product. That's what really pisses me off. Still, I might keep it just to have a legal copy. Dunno.......jury's still out with me.

And the conspiracy theory.....come the fuck on, people!!! That is the biggest bunch of shit I've EVER heard. It looks like shit cuz they either picked a bad source or deliberately did a bad transfer. BUT ADDING CGI GRAIN?!?!??!!? Pardon me.....but that is some fucked up thinking.....
