We’re not in the year 1986 anymore either. The Beastie Boys aren’t the >standard< for teenage angst. Get a new mantra.

You wanna throw down, A-A-A-Anchorhead?!?!?

Let everyone sing....

YOU GOT TO FIGHT! * BOOM BOOM * FOR YOUR RIGHT!.....FOR POOOOOOOR QUAAALLLLLLITY!!!!!

Waiting for Episode VII during the lean years (1984-1998)

Look moron.....all the criticism that the OT got back in the day was certainly warranted, but compared to the PT....the OT looks like a fucking masterpiece across the board. The OT is like Citizen Kane while the PT is like Killer Clowns From Outer Space....

"BUT ANAMORPHIC ENHANCEMENT ALTERS THE MOVIES!!!"
Time
I watched my sister's copies of the OOT on our parents' widescreen TV last night and all I have to say is that this release is an inexcusable insult. There is no reason why LFL couldn't have made them anamorphic so they can play PROPERLY on modern technology!!!

Widescreen TVs are made to eliminate those black bars provided the movie is anamorphic. This is beyond asinine, man!!! And we're expected to accept this shit with a smile??? Gimme a break!!!

It's not a question of altering or even preserving them as they were. Anamorphic doesn't change shit....it only allows people to take advantage of modern technology for the best presentation.

This not a case of fans being whiny or not getting what we want. We are getting the OT unaltered..maybe not the best picture or audio, but that's another story. I'm actually happy with the quality (even though I think the bootlegs are better), but the anamorphic issue kills it for me. To release ANY movie nowadays that doesn't take advantage of the newer TVs is just plain wrong on so many levels.

Waiting for Episode VII during the lean years (1984-1998)
Time
I waited during those 16 years anxiously, but not too anxiously. I spent the later 80s watching the movies on VHS, but I only really "got" into the mythological and dramatic end of it when I "rediscovered" the trilogy in the early 90s. That's when I realized that when Lucas got around to finishing the story, it was gonna kick major ass.

Alas that was not the case.

I was at the midnight show of each of the prequels and greeted each with equal enthusiasm despite all the negativity towards them. I remember sitting in the theater for TPM, knowing full well that I was not about to see anything like the OT. It would be the same universe, but different. So I can say that I didn't have half the expectations that most people did. And walking out, I thought the movie was pretty damn good. It was watching it repeatedly on DVD where the movie starts to get lame. It and the other prequels don't hold up after multiple viewings like the OT does.

The PT isn't all bad though. It does have the magic in parts, but overall they fail on many levels. That leads me to believe that Star Wars was never all Lucas. It was him, Kurtz, Kirschner, Kasdan, the actors, etc. There are some truly unwatchable parts in the PT. The romance stuff, the Jar Jar stuff, etc....but there are some truly amazing moments like the end of AOTC (so much foreboding it hurts) or the temptation part in ROTS (Padme and Anakin staring at each other with that creepy music playing - magnificent scene) or lightsaber fight at the end of TPM. The PT HAS the goods....it just needed some adjustments....it needed someone to balance Lucas and his nonsense, that's all.

As for the SEs....I was going through a horrible breakup at the time, so I didn't really pay attention to the changes. I saw them in the theater and knew something wasn't right. It was a few years later when I watched them again that I knew this crap was dead wrong all the way through.

The Trekkies Are Unbelievable
Time
I watched the first episode last night and my reaction is MEH!!!

I'm not thrilled nor am I outraged. They were very reverent with the FX...basically keeping the shots exactly the same, I believe. But for the most part, I don't really see the point. Frankly, I don't really care period. The fact that I have the whole series on DVD already is probably why I can take this or leave it.

I think it's just a marketing ploy for the new movie as well as selling the series on HD DVD or something.

Do you REALLY think there will be remastered versions of the OOT or whatever? I don't.
Time
I'd say it's about quality....and respect to three films upon which great importance is placed.....not only as an influence to a generation, but as a benchmark in SFX evolution and a milestone in American cinema. There is no difference between these films and Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Lawrence Of Arabia or The Godfather. They are all important pieces of art in the history of American film and they deserve to be preserved so future generations can see how cinematic art progressed in the 20th century.....

Oh....and naturally cuz Lucas just plain HATES that we want them and not the SEs.....

POLL: So Who Bought Them & Who Didn't? (the 2006 GOUT DVD release)
Time
I still like that the O-OT is out there now, cause the fact that so many people are willing to buy and watch something that they already know is inferior video quality to the SE, is a huge smack in the face to Lucas

I don't know, CO...when you put it like that, maybe I should get it...damn, you're making me doubt myself now....I certainly would love it if this outsold the 2004 release. I would giggle my ass off at that one....

Lucas is a businessman....he can't ignore those numbers....original vision or not.
