Wow. Out of all my years here, I don't think I have ever seen Gaffer get upset with anyone like this before. He's always kind of been the Ambassador of Peace. But then again, out of all my years on the internets, I've never quite seen anything like twooffour.

As amusing as he has been, when he inevitably gets banned I am not going to be shedding any tears. He's already been temp banned once for insulting Moth3r, so he is on pretty thin ice. I'd honestly be surprised if he makes it to the end of this month without finding a way to get himself a permanent ban, but then again, he may surprise me.

I don't think voting is a big deal, but if he manages to get our three most tolerant and friendly members upset at him, I'll be truly impressed. I'm still not sure that is a feat that can be achieved by anyone. Though he has already insulted 005 at least once.

Going away? Post so here!

The Nelson-Atkins Art Museum is pretty amazing. Since it's free, I've been there more times than I can count. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed.

Those giant shuttlecocks are awesome. Mostly because they give you a reason to say the word "shuttlecock" preceded by any word you want meanings "big". You have to admit "shuttlecock" isn't a word you get to use in conversation very often, so it is always nice to have an excuse. The fact that they are very large in size just makes them all the more fun.

If you get a chance, I highly recommend talking someone over the age of 21 into going to a place called Grinders with you. It is a bar, but if you go during the day with an adult you should be fine, I've seen kids eat there before. Their Bengal Tiger Pizza is to die for (other pizzas are great too). Their chili, cheese, and tots are also pretty amazing if you feel the need to clog some arteries. It's at 417 E 18th St., not too far from the museum, actually. Mmmm, now I really miss it.

Well I'm still not sure where "reasonably backed up opinions" fit in, so there's only so much I can take from that one.

Opinions.  It fits in with the opinions.

 http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/opinion :

–noun

1.
a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.

:)

Regardless of the logic involved, a fact is a fact and an opinion is an opinion. You can arrive at an opinion via logic, but it is still an opinion.

:D

Forgive me, your intellect is far beyond mine and I think I am having a hard time keeping up. Are you pointing out that "reasonably backed up opinions" don't fit into the above quoted dictionary definition of "opinion"? And that if there is logic involved, an opinion can sometimes be fact?

Alien Resurrection was a let down but it does have some good scenes, a couple of good performances, some great production values and a rather nice soundtrack.

Alien 4 is disappointing but it's a much better film than AOTC and is as underrated as Aliens is overrated.

I've only actually seen Alien: Resurrection once. I should probably give it a second viewing and see if I still feel it is as bad as I do now.

I really want to get that Alien blu-ray set sometime, I kind of wish I could get just the trilogy with all the extras, but I guess it will give me a good opportunity to rewatch Alien 4.

I agree with you that its problem had mostly to do with tone. Tone and atmosphere are two things that have always really grabbed me about the Alien movies. Tone and atmosphere are pretty much the only things about Alien 3 I like, but the atmosphere is so perfect in that film, IMHO, that I actually really enjoy the experience every time I see it, despite its fairly lousy story. Alien 4 traded in that atmosphere we've come to expect from the Alien flicks for a goofy brand of humor, which I appreciated in Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children, but just didn't work for me in the Alien universe.

X-Files: I Want to Believe

I actually really enjoyed it. For some reason I didn't think much of it when I saw it just after it came out. I spent the last few years working my way through the entire TV series; towards the beginning of this year I made it up to the last couple of episodes of the series and decided to save them to enjoy for later, since I was feeling a bit X-Filed out at the time. I finally got around to finishing them recently, which made me feel like I should try to get my hands on a copy of I Want to Believe and watch it again for completions sake.

Last time I saw it I hadn't seen past season six of the TV series, so it was nice knowing more about the context of Mulder and Scully's situation this time through. I remember this movie taking a lot of flak back in 08, but it isn't really that bad. It was a pretty low stakes story, not all that action packed, and didn't have things exploding, so no wonder it got poor reviews. It is basically a feature length monster of the week episode of the show, which is what I liked most about it. I think it works a lot better on the TV screen than in the theater.

7 of 10 balls.

I now really wish that previously potential third X-Files movie about the alien invasion in 2012 was being made. Every now and then someone interviews Duchovny or Gillian or Carter and they mention how interested in making it they are, so I guess it is still a possibility, but I have a feeling after the year 2012 passes much of the mass appeal of a film about an alien invasion that is suppose to take place in December of 2012 will be lost. If it were ever going to get made, I would have expect it to be in production right now.  :(

I am pretty sure that is my favorite track on the album.

I like Frühling In Paris the most. I would've said Donaukinder, but it's a bonus track. Of course the whole album is pretty great. Even the worst songs eventually become likeable. They prove you can be just as heavy and controversial on the wrong side of 40 as you were at 20. They don't sound any older than they did on Herzeleid, maybe more solid.

I like Frühling in Paris a lot too. Before Liebe Ist Für Alle Da was released I really didn't expect I'd like it for some reason. The only song I'd heard was Pussy, which I really didn't like at all (though, much like you said, it eventually became likeable to me). Ended up really loving most of the album.

Chuck [The final episode has aired. Chuck is concluded.]
Time

I feel like the silly little charming zero to hero story Chuck started out as has been lost through some really convoluted plot points intended to keep the show interesting. Don't get me wrong, I kind of like some of the direction they took the show during season three for the most part, but the whole spying practically being the family business thing is a bit much. His dad making the intersect was already a bit of an eye roller, but now the whole mom thing is pretty groan worthy.

Kind of killed the whole unlikely loser becoming a spy direction the show started with, at this point it feels like it would have been far less likely for him never to have become a spy. College room mate, ex-girlfriend, dad, mom; anyone left in the guy's past that wasn't once involved in espionage? I am just waiting for Ellie and Morgan to become intersects themselves.

Of course, the last time I saw a work of fiction purposely not answer every question and leave things mysterious, all the LOST fans complained.

All? Prior to the beginning of season six I was a huge Lost fan and felt too many answers we didn't need is what really ruined the show.

Anyway, Lost's style of mysteries aren't even comparable to something like the clone wars being talked about but not explained in ANH. Lost's mistake was making mystery upon mystery upon mystery to the point that they overwhelmed themselves and couldn't retcon reasonable explanations to the mysteries; leaving dangling plot holes in a story isn't the same as over explaining every little detail (which, interestingly enough, was also a problem Lost suffered from, no one really wanted an entire 45 min episode dedicated to explaining how Jack got his tattoo).

The Star Wars trilogy existed with its limited explanations of the clone wars and only a vague history of Darth Vader's past for over 20 years before films were made to answer these things. I think everyone would have been just fine if they never knew exactly how C-3PO was made or the life story of Boba Fett.

Sometimes it is really fun to let your imagination fill in the holes, I spent many hours as a kid imagining what the clone wars were like, or imagining using my action figures to act out the events leading up to the fall of Anakin Skywalker.
