Super awesome =)
So...how long before the avalanche of "please seed this" hits us?

I upscaled the (uncut) Canadian TV Land capture to match the VHS master. I thought about upscaling both of them, but even at native res, the differences are easily noticable.

Along with the 'Studio Master' VHS masters that have recently been uploaded...
At MySpleen???
Man, I am not on-the-ball at all.
Got it B)
Now I think I see what you guys mean. He doesn't usually write details about what's wrong in the shot, so this makes a lot more sense, seeing it in context ;)
I can make an ISO of this disc if it's okay to upload to MySpleen.

Are you still going to work on a release based on the Criterion color timing eventually?
I said this before, but to me, it looks like the Criterion has brightened the darker scenes to look "better" on analogue TVs. I know Criterion usually has a sort of track record, but in this case, I'm not sure how relevant their transfer is today.

Eh? Which retakes look worse?
Woah, I guess I forgot about this thread...
Looking back over it, Idunno, I guess mostly just the shot of the statue near the beginning of the page.
I never got a reply on whether or not the Sony discs or NetFlix streams have the same issues.
Edit: I just ordered The M.A.S.S. Device (seperate from the toys). I will try to pick up the rest if I find them.

Are there any players out there that can do a soft matte while playing? Kind of a strange feature, but useful in this case.
PowerDVD does (not free, though).
Most TVs do ;)
What glitches?
Only problem I had was that I couldn't post anything (not just edit) with IE. That's probably 70% of the reason that I've mostly been using Opera now =|
I've yet to see a movie that made me say "Man, I don't know how I could ever listen to this in stereo."
The Grudge used surround well, I suppose, but I don't think I'll be watching that ever again.
Well I guess as long as we're clearing the air here, I should finally admit that TV's Frink is one of mine =(
Oh, okay.
Let's color correct Pitch Black next :D
So why are we trying to remove the green tint from The Hobbit now that we know it's supposed to be there?
FotR I can understand, but if the filmmakers intentionally set up their current film(s) to have a specific color timing...

Well, finally. Although I must say that if he should have been banned for something, it was this thread.
Now I feel kind of foolish for skimming past that thread and never clicking on it.
Pure gold.
I assume the post you're referring to was deleted?

Oh, while it's bumped, let me just say that I sent Puggo an email with the project files for all my corrections the same day I last posted in this thread and he's not got back to me, so I assume he must be busy with some real life stuff.
Are you sending him back the actual finished video, or just the scripts/settings/tools/etc. to duplicate your results himself?
Just curious.
My VHS, the tape itself says it's from 1985, but the box says 1993. MCA Universal. Stereo HiFi.
I need to watch it some time.
They'll try, and then they'll all get stuck in circle mode.

I don't understand the conversation on the hobbit movies digital projection versus print because unlike the lord of the rings trilogy they are shot on video and not film. So what difference does it make to exhibit it on 35mm?
I don't think anyone ever implied that there would be a difference, You_Too just said that it "would be interesting to know" if it was shown in 35mm or not.
I like that the thread title was changed to "thread closed, please delete" and nothing was ever done about it =)

You mean homosexual tatooinian strip club? Keep it pc :P
No, I mean gay, as in "happy". Don't make it weird.
Also, political correctness is so 1990s.
Cloud City is the name of the gay strip club where Han parked the Falcon.
I feel like I need to go buy like twenty Tobors.

Either the stills were very carefully selected, or video compression is a factor...
Yes ;)
That's not what I meant.
Watched most of it yesterday, it's really nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. I'd much rather watch this than have to sit through another Uwe Boll abomination...and it's pretty easy to make fun of.
On the other hand...let the jokes fly, yes, the Holiday Special made me feel physically ill =) I think it's the framerate plus the '70s motion smearing, Idunno, but about halfway through I started feeling very motion sick =(
As far as framerate conversion is concerned, couldn't you take the PAL method and instead of dropping frames, just resample the audio and have the whole thing play at a slower speed?
