Star Wars Holiday Special - WHIO 1st Gen VHS Preservation (Released)
Time

I had friends over the other day, and for some reason we threw this disc in while we waited for the pizza guy to get here.

He gets there, and he asks what we're watching. "Star Wars Holiday Special? Is that like a remake, or the old ones? That sounds like fun!"

I said "It's not! It's awful!" =D

I think he wanted to come inside and watch it with us.

Asaki obviously has a JPEG Compression Knob that goes to 11. Far out.

 =)

By "higher than 100%", I meant it looks like the video might have been zoomed in before the shots were taken.

I'm just glad that the program I use to preview the films regraded allows me to output high quality screencaps without all this pixelation.

The compression is in the video file itself. I sound like a broken record, here.

My FYEO SE disc will not play at all in any player whatsoever...

The Goldeneye SE disc that I have won't play on an XBox 360, it glitches up right away and freezes the console. Plays fine on other devices I've tried it on. I had to let my friend borrow the UE instead.

Haven't tried any of the other SE discs, that was the only one he wanted to borrow.

I'm sure they make capture cards that accept component video, but most people here either want the direct stream ripped straight from the Internet on a computer, or nothing at all.

But now that I've had a little more experience with Netflix in HD, I see that there are other obstacles to overcome that no one has mentioned: Netflix on 360 is pretty awful. Besides the fact that the UI is terrible and there is no way to change any of the options, the streaming quality is very erratic...I suppose you'd have to take multiple captures and splice them together, hoping that the picture (and sound) quality doesn't always drop in the same spots.

I don't know if it's the same way on PS3, but considering that it's a Sony product, I would be willing to bet that PS3 has the DRM where you have to use HDMI or it will only output in lower resolution.

Although if one doesn't mind spending the money, they do make HDCP strippers, like the HDFury.

Otherwise posting colour corrected images is kind of pointless unless people are taking them away to look at later.

If I really want a good look at them, I always open them in a new window. On the forum itself, the pics are either always little thumbnails, or whatever ends up going past the right edge of the table gets cropped off instead of stretching it out (in both IE and Opera).

Idea & Request: Kiki's Delivery Service Streamline/Carl Macek English dub
Time

But the dubs have already tainted it for me, I don't even want to watch them with subs =) Though I much prefer dubs when it comes to animation.

I do remember people being incensed that Dana Scully's voice was in the movie.  Gillian's an actress.  Your stuck on her playing a single role too bad.

I don't remember her in it, I just remember Billy Bob Thornton sounding like he really did not want to be there =| Kind of like Harrison Ford's failed sabotage attempt in Blade Runner.

The sad thing is I've heard in recent CGI films, certain actors have tried to do actual voice acting, but the studios didn't want them to. Most unfortunate, as I was surprised by Jack Black's performance in the otherwise abysmal Shark Tale.

Idea: any interest in a 16mm preservation of 'The Warriors'? (Theatrical cut)

It's an interesting artistic choice, (if you believe it was Walter Hill's original intention) but it's much too jarring if you've grown up with the original.

I've only seen it once, on AMC, the theatrical cut (well, the edited-for-TV theatrical cut, that is). I'd like to see it again, so I will definitely have to make sure I grab the old theatrical DVD release.
