Has anyone started any sort of archive to back up WB DVD discs that are prone to rotting? (pressed at the Olyphant, Pennsylvania Cinram plant)
If not, should we start one?
I might ask if The 'Spleen is okay with it, but I’m not sure that they would be.

I’ve got at least two discs now that are completely worthless, THAT I KNOW OF…it seems like this is a problem that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. I want to at least back up some of my Bond films.

It sounds like WB will replace titles that are available in their MOD program, but what about others? I will have to email them and find out.

Nah, that’s just a thing subtitles and CC do sometimes =/ They don’t want to fill up the screen with too much text, or they don’t think deaf people will know the difference, or who knows what. I hate it, I always have to turn them off when they do that.

Are there any clips out there of The Hobbit in 48 FPS? I’ve always been curious to see.

I found a few old trailers on YouTube, but to my eyes, they look like they’ve been faked with interpolation. I could be wrong, though.

I haven’t seen this movie since I was a kid. I tried to watch the DVD once, but I couldn’t get past the wobble.

lol, I didn’t even know you could do 8 hour tapes.

At that recording quality, you could probably compress them a bit more and not really lose anything. Single-layer DVD size, or maybe even MKV? (or whatever people use these days)

Looks like there are two full episodes at the Spleen, otherwise it’s just the old clips at YT.

There’s a Facebook group, but I skimmed it quickly and it looks like it’s just the same clips.

There are two copies on YouTube right now (obviously uploaded after this post), both are low-res and heavily compressed.
I’ve got a copy of the official tape, but my capture card isn’t fantastic.

We already have a master tape copy, I don’t think it gets much higher quality than that.
Your average Joe is probably used to seeing 7th generation copies.

Just a quick question I can’t find: in the fullscreen boxed set, was the bonus disc (Empire of Dreams, etc.) presented in fullscreen as well, or is the case art just gold to match the rest of the box?

And if it did come in fullscreen, is it open matte?

The first time I watched the WHIO version, it was 60fps like that. It actually made me a little nauseous.

It might have been because I had installed a 60fps plugin on the computer and forgot about it, but it literally hasn’t worked on any other video I’ve watched.
