To start off…

Ideas for a radical Dark Lord Trilogy edit. (Labyrinth of Evil by James Luceno, Revenge of The Sith by Matthew Stover, Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, by James Luceno)

  • Move character introductions from ROTS to LOE.
  • Trim the monologue of Count Dooku being a racist to aliens from ROTS but keep his vision of a Sith Army.
  • Rework Padme into being a stronger character.
  • Trim down the chase of Obi-Wan and Grievous from ROTS.
  • Remove the majority of the non Vader scenes from Dark Lord.

I really like this one. I’m reminded of the concept art which shows Padme with a dagger, implying that she actually came to Mustafar to kill Anakin. Of course, if that was always her intention then idk how you could explain her not wanting Obi-Wan to tag along since he could probably do a much better job of that, but whatever.

Another idea I had for ROTS was making it so that Anakin knows the Jedi are holding the ancient secret of Force healing in the Jedi library (TROS reference). The problem? It’s in the restricted section where only Jedi Masters can go (thus why he was so insistent on becoming a Master). Yet again, this introduces a plot hole where he should naturally take that secret for himself when he raids the temple, but maybe at that point he’s given up on the Jedi way and wants to fully commit to the dark side. Who knows.

I’m glad there’s a general thread for novel edits now! I think it’s something that’s only had the surface scratched. (I’ll finish my TROS one eventually!)

I had an idea to edit together Han Solo At Star’s End and Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, to result in a book that had all of the main cast in it, but when I read SotME I found it to be of incomparably worse quality than Brian Daley’s Han Solo books, so, it would either require a tonne of new writing, or a different “Luke and Leia without Han” source.

Interesting thread. I think the three things that would benefit the most from fanedits are the ST novelizations. JarJar and CaptainFaraday have already done work on this. I think there’s a lot a stuff you could do in terms of structure and minor editing that would restore a sense of finality and respect the overall saga, while also being canon compliant. One idea I had was including a scene in the TROS novelization where Anakin’s force ghost appears to the slowly dying Leia. Leia forgives him and then decides to use the last of her energy to reach out to Ben. It creates a nice parallel of sons and daughters. Leia forgives her father (or tells him that she had already forgiven him long ago). Han forgives his child.

Another idea I had was moving the TLJ epilogue (broomboy) to the end of TROS. Instead of the kids just talking about Luke’s sacrifice, they talk about the whole saga. Heroes triumphing over the evil Empire, Luke’s sacrifice, and the Resistance defeating the First Order. The Skywalker Saga ends on the myth of their story and presents a hopeful future.

Moving and adjusting Broom Boy to TROS is a neat idea; I like that the saga would end on a scene that reaffirms the importance of, well, Star Wars stories.

I definitely agree with your idea about Leia and Anakin, tangelo. I actually had a moment very similar to that for my novelization of TROS. Maybe I should go back and make a version of the novel without any alternate canon changes, just enhancements like that.
