Take 2 on the full “Captain Hux”. Does it sound any smoother?
That sounds awesome Sherlock👍
Ayy that latest one sounds on the right path! I was skeptical about “Captain” at first; they weren’t sounding right to me. But more tweaking can make this latest one work. Good stuff.
Save the Sebastian Shaw Ghost! Save the dream…!

Getting closer for sure.

It’s definitely better. I think what’s throwing me off is that he’s inflecting downward on both words. It gives it that trademark sentence mixing feel rather than sounding like a natural line delivery.

But wouldn’t one do exactly that if you were to put emphasis one the demotion.?
To my ears it sounds great. But I know I am not the most audiophile 😂
What’s your source, stereo or 5.1? The original dialogue sounds very spacious but the new words sound compressed. Does it go from stereo or mono? Hard to tell on my phone.

I thought the last one sounded perfect, and I think this one does too. Will be happy to use whatever you end up happy with.

Totally agree.
Sounds perfect to me!
Lol Hal, I’m never happy. MR, my edit is only using the mono center channel. I think the difference you’re hearing in the sound quality is because the original dialogue echoes into all of the other channels, whereas I’m just dropping in the center channel for now. For the final version, it would have to be copied into the other channels too, you’re right.
This is what it would sound like if “Hux” was pitched up a little bit. Like mes1983 pointed out, it might lose some of the emphasis on “Captain Hux” that I was originally shooting for. But if it sounds more natural, that’s ultimately the most important thing.

I think either one of these sound perfect.
I really agree. I can hear the difference but… feel both are perfect!
v3b sounds a little more natural to me, I think? But yeah, the difference so small, either one should work.

Higher is slightly better.

Having not paid attention to the intermediate working steps, to me, both the higher and lower of those sound flawlessly integrated, with my preference tending slightly towards the lower one.

Maybe it’s poll time to choose, like the TIE vs Shuttle?

Here’s a little demo of the civilian fleet, with the original audio subdued to let the comms be much more audible than they’ll be in the final product.
(There’s a shot missing visually, but don’t mind that.)

Also, wow, actual chills on this one. Just like jonh’s Force Ghosts, it took a scene that made me feel nothing in the theatrical release, and made me feel emotions.

I don’t know if this is the right thread, but a thought I had recently about Ben’s ghost:
This idea never quite sat right with me, and I now realize it isn’t just because it breaks the “twin suns” symmetry… And I think in principle, having Ben’s ghost is a good idea. In Jedi, Luke and his dad have a one-on-one convo before he dies. Then, when he sees the ghosts hanging out, he’s looking at his former masters and someone who belongs in their generation (much older than Luke). Three old guys who are dead, that each taught Luke something, in a way.
Rey and Ben on the other hand, are contemporaries! They also didn’t have a conversation before Ben died. So to me it seems weird that she’s looking off at her former masters AND Ben, who, really, doesn’t quite “belong” in the afterlife. If anything, it would seem more appropriate that Luke+Leia and Ben appear to her separately (I’m not suggesting this, because it would not really be possible to implement). Vader gets to die with some dignity after leading most of his life as an evil murderer. This isn’t Ben’s story. As per the movie, Rey and Kylo are two that are one. They share an spiritual intimacy (per the movie!) that I think is broken by the three-Skywalker shot. It just seems so distant. “Forget all that dyad stuff, Rey, I’m hanging out with my mom and uncle now, byeee”
Again, might not be the right thread, but with the assumption that some years down the line the edit will be revisited 😉 … what are people’s thoughts on having JUST BEN as a force ghost for that shot, replacing Mark and Carrie entirely?? So instead of Rey getting adopted, we’d get a kind of force marriage?
reylo?
I don’t necessarily disagree with any of that. Although if Rey were to “marry” her name would be Solo, and I don’t just mean that in a literal sense; if the movie was edited so that Rey looked and saw only Ben, it makes it even weirder that she then suddenly takes the name “Skywalker.” It’s less like a “force marriage” and more like she’s declaring herself to be his relative (insert Empire Strikes Back incest joke here).
Of course, Rey claiming the name “Solo” instead of “Skywalker” is an idea that’s been thrown around a lot since the movie came out. It represents her connection with Ben, it’s a tribute to Han and Leia as her closest mentors, and it’s simultaneously a nod to the Rey Nobody aspect in a meta-way, as the Solo movie established that “Solo” is a made-up name from when Han had no family name of his own. But this project is probably past the point of such a suggestion (especially if the title’s not changing), and anyways the voice-dub and lip-sync work probably isn’t feasible.
Yea, but not baffling. Palpatine called him Skywalker
reylo?
There’s also, unfortunately but importantly, the meta fan aspect of it. Even though attempting to please franchise fans rather than focus on the ST’s contained story is a recurring problem in TROS, it does arguably have value in that this is the “final Skywalker Saga episode” (a point which this very fan project is trying to emphasize with stuff like Palpatine vs Ghosts). And I think that a not-insignificant amount of people would much rather see Luke and Leia’s ghost than Ben’s ghost during the final moments at the homestead.
I like the way we have things at the end because it provides resolution to the Ben/Luke dynamic (ie they’re chill with each other again). A significant portion of TLJ is dedicated to Kylo’s hatred of him, so I’d say this is a powerful moment that should have been there to begin with.
Those may very well have been the filmmakers’ reasons for not including a ghost of Ben.
However, showing his ghost is the natural capstone on his redemption story. Without it, it leaves the audience to say, “Oh, well. I guess he’s in Jedi hell.”
Also, I feel like the script already seems to address this (as though they originally meant to have his ghost at the end) by having Palpatine refer to Ben as “the last Skywalker,” as KumoNin points out.
