My crawl doesn’t fade out enough and I don’t understand the paragraph about what to do in such cases from the instructions.HTML.

Can’t you just elongate the clip that is to be created by a few frames/seconds and program the text block to move along a bit further? I can’t find the animation of the crawl text.

I can’t get render to work, it just makes black screenshots. I’ve been trying to figure this out for a while. I’m using version 2.8 of Blender. Can Jackpumpkinhead or someone else let me know what version of the program is used in the tutorial video? I could try with that older version.

You need to change the output settings so that it renders a video file instead of a single PNG. Or if you want a PNG sequence, hitting the Animation button should render that. Might be wrong, just going off memory here. Or maybe your frame range isn’t set right?

You need to download version 2.79b of blender. The crawl creator currently does not work with version 2.8 because they removed the blender renderer and replaced it with Eevee. The workaround is to switch to cycles (which is slower) and change the material settings for all of the elements of the crawl which takes some time to do. So as of right now, the quickest solution is to uninstall version 2.8, then download and install version 2.79b, then open the Custom Crawl Creator with that. You can download 2.79b here: https://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.79/

Ok, switching to version 2.79b helped. I could not open my previously made crawl file in the older version, so I had to do kerning from scratch, but it seems to be rendering just fine now. Thanks for the help Jack!

Is there any way to edit the “long time ago” text or change the logo? For example, if I wanted to replace the Star Wars logo with the Clone Wars logo, would there be a way to go about that?

Yes, you would just need to unhide the ALTA text and then follow the same steps you would when editing the actual crawl text

Thank you! Please forgive my lack of Blender experience, but do you know of any relatively easy way I can swap in a different logo? I’ve been playing around with it for a couple hours now with no luck lol. I have the logo as a png, but I have no idea where to proceed from there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You need to convert your png to a eps or other vector graphic. Then import your graphic in to blender, size it to the STAR WARS logo and position it in 3d space to where the logo is located. Finally you need to parent your new logo to the STAR WARS logo and turn off the STAR WARS logo’s visibility so it won’t render. That should do what you need it to do. Though, you could have easily looked up all of this on your own using google.

Thank you again, and sorry for not doing more research on my own. I did do some googling, but when the answer didn’t immediately jump out I just came back here. Again, my apologies, and thank you for the assistance!

Awesome! Can I get the link to version 3?

I have altered Lucas’ visions. Pray I don’t alter them any further.

I love following this project! I have v1 and v2, and they’re really good, I can’t wait to get v3 and see what you have in store and improved!

Not really improvements really, I just updated the blend file to work with newer versions of Blender. The previous versions used the Blender internal renderer (spelling?). Now it works with Eevee and Cycles.

Ahh, I see, and yes you are correct with the spelling, I remember the Blender Internal Renderer basically got the Axe on my birthday in 2018

So I have used v1 and it works great. Tried to learn how to then properly adjust some things (scroll length, additions, fade outs) and still learning blender. Would love to see and play with v3 when its available.

@jackpumpkinhead - I did PM you if there are any links to DL. Wanted to also thank you for setting these up and giving info/instructions within the project. Couldn’t do this anywhere near as fast with out yea!! Appreciate your efforts and help in the community!!

Yeah, I just DM’ed you the link. There have been a few people who have asked how to change things with this project like color, speed of the crawl, fade outs etc, etc. and really this is to just recreate what Adywan has done for his revisited crawls. It is 100% customizable, but I honestly don’t have the time or patience to dive into everything someone could change and how. I feel like there are enough YT videos out there explaining the basics of Blender and how to do anything they would want with it.

I will do my best to help out when I can. But mostly it’s only to get someone started with their own crawl.
