Why is this Star Wars spaceship so beloved?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JEuIV3a6bA - a 10 minute video at the Adam Savage’s Tested youtube channel.

The Blurb: 'One of the great joys of studio-scale modelmaking is replicating a model using the same techniques and donor kit parts that the original designers used in their iconic spaceships. At this year’s Wonderfest, modelmaker Scott Thibaudeau introduces us to his studio scale B-Wing, a scratch built recreation of the original Bill George design, down to the last decal. We geek out over this model and discuss why it’s so beloved among Star Wars fans.

Concept Art by Ralph Mcquarrie for the Star Wars Trilogy (1977, 80, 83)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eepb2B4z3uE - a 16 minute video from the Illustrated Art youtube channel.

The Blurb: 'Ralph McQuarrie’s art was definitely fundamental in shaping the success of Star Wars and enriching the galaxy far, far away. Some of the most iconic images in all of science fiction came from the mind of Ralph McQuarrie, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, original Battlestar Galactica, Close Encounters, the film Cocoon, to mention just a few.

But Star Wars, in particular, owes more to McQuarrie than any other movie franchise. His art is central to Star Wars lore, with Darth Vader, Han Solo, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, The Imperial Stormtroopers, R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Cloud City, AT-AT Walkers, The planets Hoth, Alderaan, various ships, the death star etc.

“Ralph’s contribution to the Star Wars world is incalculable.”

– George Lucas (in the Ralph McQuarrie: Tribute to a Master documentary)

McQuarrie’s work continues to inspire not just Star Wars fans, but science fiction fans across the world. Among his great works, here are some standouts for Star Wars.’

Original 35mm Reel of STAR WARS (1977) No Fade, near perfect condition

www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YnpvQOnHRc - 11 minute video from the Movie Collector youtube channel.

The blurb: 'Martin Dew worked at Lucasfilm THX in Marin County California from 1995 to 2004. Like myself, he has been a film collector for most of his life and so when the film store was being cleared out to dispose of what were considered relics to be replaced with new digital assets, Martin asked if he could have the 35mm reel that was labelled up as ‘Star Wars’. He had kept this reel safe ever since and in this video it is screened for the first time since it was rescued from its appointment with the landfill.

What is this reel? What condition is it in and is it of any historic significance? We were both amazed by what unveiled itself on screen. It was not what we expected to find at all.

Any glimpses of the film on screen are for illustrative purposes only.’

Love that Movie Collector channel, that was a joy to watch and I would love a chance to view his super 8 Derann print ! Thank you for sharing oojason!

STAR WARS on 16mm - The Story of PUGGO GRANDE (How Fans Saved Star Wars - Part V)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ0bjStyAO0 - a 19 minute video from the SG10 Film Archive youtube channel.

The blurb: 'STAR WARS on 16mm - The Story of PUGGO GRANDE (How Fans Saved Star Wars - Part V)

After the release of the 2006 Bonus DVD, all Laserdisc transfers made by the Star Wars preservation community became obsolete. In an attempt to innovate and bring about the next age of preservation, the community began to experiment with scanning 8mm and 16mm film prints of the original Star Wars trilogy. This is the story of one of the most influential 16mm film scans of all time - Puggo Grande.

Return of the Jedi (1983): A complete guide to the film

www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlUE0mRYWco - a 100 minute video from the Represent This youtube channel.

The blurb: 'Return of the Jedi was fraught with legalities before production began. While Lucas defended himself from guilds he found himself battling with the studio over technicalities. Yet he forged ahead, trying to find a director that would not be blacklisted for working with him and balancing his producer duties rather than interfering with said director. This video goes over all the production periods, from the fear of leaks to his eventual release. We also take a personal reflection when the film came out and the many details in the film.

For our research there were many sources used, besides the many interviews and vids on the internet we utilized the DVD special features, these specific documentaries: Empire of Dreams, Classic creatures of Return of the Jedi, From Star Wars to Jedi, I am Your Father and Icons Unearthed ROTJ. We also used the following books: The Making of Return of the Jedi by J.W. Rinzler, the ROTJ film novelization by James Kahn and we also used the reading material on the back of the Topps 1983/84 Trading cards (both series) as well as the 90’s wide vision ROTJ trading cards.

MythBusters Tests Iconic Star Wars Scenes From The Original Trilogy | MythBusters

www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkyZjBpTN9k - a 48 minute video from the official Mythbusters youtube channel.

The blurb: 'MythBusters — S12 E1 “Star Wars: Revenge of the Myth” — Aired January 4, 2014

Adam, Jamie, Kari, Tory and Grant each picked their favorite Star Wars scene from the original trilogy and the full team tested one from each film — first working through the physics of Luke Skywalker launching a grappling hook at a pipe above the Death Star chasm with Princess Leia attached to his waist to find out whether the belt harness, the throw accuracy, and the combined weight of two people on a single cable could ever work the way the film shows, then building a full-scale Ewok log battering ram rig and calculating whether timber swung at the speed the film depicts could actually generate enough force to take down a two-legged Imperial AT-ST walker, and finally consulting with a biologist to find out whether the internal temperature of a freshly killed tauntaun could realistically keep a human being alive through a Hoth night, because MythBusters never lets sentiment stand in the way of science, not even for Star Wars.’
