Does anyone have the Puggo Grande ISOs? I know ZigZig posted them a couple of years back but I missed it then 😕

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

The Creator of PUGGO GRANDE | INTERVIEW

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBv3OtQL3N8 - an 84 minute video from the SG10 Film Archive youtube channel.

The blurb: In 2009, a man named Scott Gordon released PUGGO GRANDE to the world. Puggo Grande (soon to be followed by Puggo Strikes Back and Return of the Pug) was a 16mm telecine transfer of the original Star Wars. This was the first time a fan had ever preserved a full-length version of the theatrical cut by scanning an original film print. In this interview we discuss how Scott accomplished this pioneering feat and how this most memorable version of Star Wars was created.

I just went back and read the first 20 pages of this thread. What a trip down memory lane. I had forgotten so much of what transpired - shipping that gate back to Texas, fiddling with those AviSynth scripts, all the steps to get the DVD players to properly resize the image. And so many people involved helping it all come together.

Also, I had forgotten that my original plan was to do the cartridge scans next, but got “sidetracked” by PSB and ROTP. So I STILL haven’t done “Puggo’s Puppies” yet. Reading this thread has inspired me to get started on that. The shocking irony is that my current scanner is HD, so while Star Wars in 16mm got an SD scan, the really rough 8mm cartridges will get an HD treatment. Ha!

Do you think you might scan the 16mm’s in HD also? That would be great.

Highly unlikely. The prints are in more capable hands now - at least for SW.
For now I’ll just stick to finally getting around to doing some of the little digest-type projects I never got around to.

I went back and watched puggo grande and puggo strikes back and went down the rabbit hole reading this thread . I especially enjoyed Puggo strikes back as it reminded me of seeing empire strikes back for the first time in late 1980 after it had made the rounds and came to my local one screen small town theater , affectionately nicknamed The Sticky Floor . It was a 35mm print, but very beat up , with dirt, scratches and reel change marks , sharper than this of course but still grungy and it added to the sense of realism for me , especially the Hoth battle . It was also in mono as that hole in the wall theater was not equipped for stereo at the time . Watching psb was a nostalgic trip for me . I watched it on my rca lcd video projector which is standard definition 480p and projected it at about 100 inches . Enjoyed the experience.

STAR WARS on 16mm - The Story of PUGGO GRANDE (How Fans Saved Star Wars - Part V)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ0bjStyAO0 - a 19 minute video from the SG10 Film Archive youtube channel.

The blurb: 'STAR WARS on 16mm - The Story of PUGGO GRANDE (How Fans Saved Star Wars - Part V)

After the release of the 2006 Bonus DVD, all Laserdisc transfers made by the Star Wars preservation community became obsolete. In an attempt to innovate and bring about the next age of preservation, the community began to experiment with scanning 8mm and 16mm film prints of the original Star Wars trilogy. This is the story of one of the most influential 16mm film scans of all time - Puggo Grande.
