I am so excited that this is happening and that is less than a year away. I really hope we get to see some trailers and build up for this soon.

I’m predicting a trailer at the D23 expo, which runs from 14th August - 16th August.

Although there would be nothing really new to see that would still be exciting IMO.

Super excited! I’m quite late to this party but grateful for everyone’s work in this community from both the massive preservation efforts to fan club interest support. I might have to actually break my no screens rule for the kids early and take my son next year. I know it’s a little crazy, but I myself have never actually seen the original trilogy in theaters either. If anyone is near Nashville around the release time and wants company hit me up.

It only took 8306 days (March 10, 2003 - December 5, 2025) before the goal of the site was a confirmed achievement.

8306 days man. That’s 22 years, 8 months, and 25 days. Site’s gone through a lot of permutations in that time.

How we feelin, boys & girls?

New here, but been following at a distance for some time.

Does anyone know of an assembly cut?

Author

That is exactly what the John Jympson so called lost cut is.

The one David West Reynolds wrote about in Star Wars Insider.

They should make a trailer that starts off with the Special Edition trailer, play it for about 5 seconds, insert sound of needle scratching across a record and then play the SE trailer backwards really fast…fade to black…Star Wars logo with the John Williams opening fanfare, iris out to “the original version from 1977.” FIN.

This would be a nostalgia bomb for a certain kind of fan who vividly remembers the SE trailer…but no one else.

I do wonder if we’ll get a recreation of the original trailer or an entirely-new trailer for SW’77.

A mix of both would be awesome. Maybe a modern style of the very first teaser.

How would they make a trailer that was retro but said come and see this it’s a once in lifetime event.

What should a poster be like.

Are they going to roll out a soundtrack, novelization, comic adaptation, new action figures. For the 50th?

I’d like to see an effort like the 1997, no not all the added cgi in the film itself but the marketing spend and Star Wars was everywhere.

Although that was about the upcoming prequels and getting people engaged in Star Wars again more than anything. The Expanded Universe was already in full swing by then. The comics, games and novels were all selling very well.

I don’t know that Disney will put in all that much effort beyond putting the film in theaters for FEB in limited release.

Revenge of the Sith they did barely a thing to promote. They don’t treat old movies like new movies like George’s Lucasfilm did the Special Edition. Maybe the 50th will be different. Who knows.

It’s not like they are planning to roll out Episodes 10 11 and 12. Lucasfilm seems to be content staying on the Mandoverse path. And Filoni Star Wars. I wonder when for the majority of the audience it goes stale. I was out after the second season of the Mandalorian.

Perhaps there is another in Star Fighter we shall see.

It’s very likely just going to be a standard trailer with the standard formula that basically everything is cut to. The level to which trailers have become almost a thoroughly researched science at eliciting emotional response is hard to ignore, and marketing teams have gotten EXCEEDINGLY good at making 2min commercials into tiny little short films.

they’ll push the hell out of it - the 50th Anniversary is clearly going to be part of the big set up for Starfighter, which the studio seems to believe is the REAL new kickoff of their theatrical endeavors. As has been said before - the re-release strategy at Disney is to use the classic film both as floor-raiser AND seat-holder. If a re-release makes serious bank, all the better, but usually they’re simply re-relasing something as a way to hold onto seats and screens they wouldn’t have exclusivity over otherwise, and raising the profile of the new release that will be following after it.

Star Wars 50th will be a big deal for them, because it’s the cleanest way to an audience palate cleanser, and they want a massive audience for Ryan Gosling’s follow up to Project Hail Mary, which just so happens to be a Star Wars movie by the Wolverine & Deadpool guy. They’re 100% aiming for the widest general audience appeal they can get. Starting the year with big splashy re-releases of THE STAR WARS TRILOGY is how they focus attention.

Is this the first official hint at the whole remastered/restored original trilogy getting theatrical re-releases this coming Spring?

The London Symphony Orchestra itself is doing live-scored screenings of Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi, Apr 29-May 2.

Not really… the LSO and many other orchestras have been doing these LTP’s for years now…

And many re-recordings as well.

I used to track down and collect as many album recordings as I could. With various orchestras.

Yes I know but I’m talking about the fact the dates on this one are Apr 29-May 2, 2027.

The context matters, LOL. The previous live-scores they’ve done (and everyone’s done) didn’t occur during a time period where newly restored/remastered DCPs of the original versions existed simultaneously. I’m suggesting this might be an unofficial hint they’re going to make the Empire/Jedi releases known soon. (-ish).

The re-release is in February; what do April or May have to do with it? And if they’re gonna use the new releases, Disney would need JKMS to fully re-prepare the sheet music for the theatrical versions, as they did in 2017 for the SEs (which, btw, was a massive and expensive undertaking). Do you really think they’d spend that much money just for a concert?

Also, if they haven’t told the public about whether they’re gonna release ESB or Jedi, why the hell would they tell the LSO out of all people and allow them to post about it publicly???

Could well be, mate.

The official site did state that the theatrical re-release of Star Wars in cinemas was a “part of Lucasfilm’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration” - and something like this would certainly fit in with those 50th anniversary celebrations. Let’s hope so. 👍

Definitely worth keeping an eye on for more additional details announced on those LSO concerts…

The LSO/Royal Albert Hall isn’t the public, they’re a business partner. It’s the same general idea every licensor has with any licensee - they know what’s going to happen before we do, because they HAVE to know in order for the deal to actually WORK. IMAX 100% knew about their Star Wars screenings AND the change in release date long before we did, for example. And they definitely knew it was the original version before they made the deal. They would need the leeway and the time! And using your example, Royal Albert/LSO would need the time to get new sheets made for the orchestras to use.

And the tickets going on sale don’t say anything about the version they’ll be screening over that weekend. And by the time that weekend rolls around, mass-produced DCPs of the restoration WILL exist. Hence my calling it a hint at our upcoming future, since it seems very likely those other two restorations are getting screened for the 50th. Remember, Lucasfilm itself announced a 50th anniversary screening before OFFICIALLY clarifying it was the original version from 77. There’s tons of examples of people knowing about a thing that’s coming before it gets announced to the public, that’s just how business is done.

I just think it’s a cool thing to keep an eye on. The LSO doing a live score at Royal Albert Hall on the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars - it’d add an extra element of “hell yeah” to the proceedings if they were doing the original score along with seeing the original version. Something to maybe look forward to, you know?

Personally, I don’t think that it’s going to be the theatricals for the LSO concerts, seeing as the Special Editions are still going to be regarded as the “Definitive” versions of the films, and they probably aren’t going to put in all that work just to use it once and go back to the Special Editions. Still nice to think about, though (and I’d probably look at booking if it was).

What’s so Special Edition about the music except for Jedi Rocks and Victory Celebration. Wouldn’t it just be the soundtracks?

The changes were about the cgi and Greedo shooting first, Adding Hayden to Return of the Jedi. dumb stuff like that and replacing Lapti Nek and Yub Yub.
Of course, a concert that includes all the original score with no special edition would be great.

The timing is different, there is different editing which the live scores have to replicate, aswell as new cues replacing old ones (the new Mos Eisley music for instance). Disney would have to get the music re-prepared, which I don’t think they’ll go for…

Btw, the editing of the Special edition is pretty horrible. There are so many parts of music getting repeated and tracked for different cues. It’s an absolute mutilation of the original score.

The cloud city escape sequence in the TESB SE butchered the score so much, definitely one of the worst instances.

To be fair, tracked music in the films goes all the way back to when the ending of ESB was retooled for the wider 35mm release so it’s not exactly a Special Edition invention although it’s certainly more prevalent there.
