No. I love science fiction. I’ve put 300 hours just into Mass Effect Legendary edition, a videogame. and that and Kotor 1 and 2 literally thousands of hours. I have many vintage sci paperbacks. My laserdisc collection is a good chunk of science fiction. I have comic books, DVDS and blu-rays and 4K discs.
I’m more into Fantasy and Science Fiction, Manga and anime than I am into Superheroes. I’m kind of tired of Superhero and cape movies, would like more science fiction.
One genre I love which is basically dead is sword and planet. The Edgar Rice Burroughs kind of adventure. If they could do a modern spin on that minus the racism of the pulps I would be ecstatic.
The Flash Gordon Space Opera kind of thing, the swashbuckling adventure that the OT in places hewed to. But the prequels did not.
They also called that genre of Fantasy sword and sorcery and that was what Robert E Howard did in Conan short stores he wrote for the pulp magazines.
Tolkien was the other thing but I haven’t been into his work for a long time since I got sick of Hobbits because of the public’s interest in them and the Peter Jackson movies. I liked those books more when they were more obscure and for nerds. Suddenly they were important to normies like Star Wars would become under Disney, losing much of its appeal.
Like when we used to read comics and It wasn’t at all normal or cool, and there was no comic con. You didn’t have a bunch of grownups with arrested development, and who dressed up in cosplay. Comics were for children and teenagers.
You didn’t have an entire industry built up on nostalgia. The chasing the 1980s that pop culture does, that wasn’t anything but my childhood. Those were all new things. Movies. Now they endlessly recycle, remake things.
