There we go… the leaks forced their hand I bet lol
I thought for sure they were going to wait until Celebration 2027 to make a big announcement. Maybe they’ll wait until then to announce all 3 are coming to home video.
They spent millions of dollars on this and have hired like 300 people. Of course, they’re gonna milk it on home media lol!
Would love to see George’s reaction to this news lol
Wonder if he still thinks “no one wanted to see them” like he was still saying last year.

It’ll come to streaming & UHD.
That would indeed be nice.

Well yes, but I feel like stranger things have happened with Star Wars…
Oh well, maybe I should stop being pessimistic, just hard to believe after all this time.
Perhaps I should prioritize common sense over fear of disappointment.
Anyway, I guess we finally have the first link for the “News and Updates” section.
Well, it took 8,306 days (March 10 2003 - December 5 2025) but this site’s goal has been finally confirmed.
How’s that feeling, folks?
This will be a day long remembered!

“Star Wars–later renamed Star Wars: A New Hope.”
Yep. That seals it, as far as I’m concerned.
Also, there is zero chance this doesn’t get a 4K UHD release lol. Disney is gonna wanna make bank off of the restoration work, physical media sales and cinema releases are how you do that.

“A day Star Wars fans never thought would happen is finally happening. Lucasfilm and Disney are rereleasing the original version of Star Wars in theaters for its 50th anniversary. It’ll happen on February 17, 2027, and io9 has confirmed with Lucasfilm that it is, in fact, the original theatrical cut of the movie.”

I’m not really an avid SW fan (hoping to change that soon), nor have I see TESB or ROTJ but I am really happy these are getting restored. Big day for film

This is the way!
I guess Disney will also will be releasing this at streaming and physical media.
My respons: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Faneditors - I salute you.
Excellent news! It’s rather ironic that George has created all of this anticipation in the first place. It reminds me of new Coke to Classic coke.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Or … Disney desperately needed something quick to counter the “Netflix-bought-Warner” media buzz 😉
Anyway, awesome news for everyone of us. At least they will release it in theatres. Let’s hope for a physical release too …

Hi guys, I’m the one who posted the leaked clips on YouTube a few weeks ago, which got over 50k views. I’m so happy to share this moment with all of you, this is truly a historic day and probably the most important day in Star Wars history. Without sounding egotistical I can confidently say that my video of the leaked clips getting the attention that it did definitely pushed them into announcing this early, which does feel good to have contributed in some way, but either way I’m just so happy to be here with you all and I genuinely still can’t believe that this finally happening. The fact that this is going to genuinely upset some people too is so funny to me, I’m sure some of you might’ve seen people upset at me in the comments of the video, and there will probably be more on my community post, but the bottom line is all versions of the films should’ve always been available, especially the originals, so I’m so happy for everybody who’s ever contributed to this site, and I’m also sad knowing some people never lived to see this day, and it’s a great shame that they’re not here to celebrate.
Let’s all enjoy this moment and let the weight of this monumental day fully sink in, congratulations guys. Dreams do indeed come true.
Would love to see George’s reaction to this news lol
I just learned about this development on Bsky and that was also my immediate thought! 😄

Oh, when did he say that in recent times?

Our primary objective has against all odds been achieved. But we have formed our own ongoing missions, and I continue to look forward to what this community produces. Much love to OT.com on its fulfillment.
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Imagine if this site was created 20 years ago for this moment, it’s crazy, this has really taken a long time, and I even feel excited even though I arrived here a year ago, but seeing the greatest trilogy of all time in the highest quality and in the cinema is an impossible dream come true

Umm… okay 😂
I don’t think 50k views pushed them into doing anything lol
This originally leaked like 6 months ago, but it was more widely posted on Reddit about a month ago.
After that it got pretty widespread media coverage online.
Oh, when did he say that in recent times?
Cannes Film Festival 2024, he did an interview that’s on YouTube.
He was specifically asked if the original versions would be released in 4K, and he got all grumpy and was like “We already released them on DVD! Nobody wanted them, and everyone said they looked terrible and that we purposely made them look terrible! We didn’t, that’s how they looked!”
I doubt if he was even aware this re-master was underway, since he really hasn’t worked for Lucasfilm since he sold it and retired in 2012.
There’s no reason to be passive aggressive towards what I said, I’m not claiming to be the sole reason that they confirmed it, but no doubt the video I posted helped push it along significantly. Is it purely coincidence that the day after I posted it, Sonny Hale posted all of the clips himself, then HelloGreedo, EchoBaseNetwork and Harmy made videos very soon after that? Again it’s not about ego at all, I don’t care, I’m just glad to have contributed in some way
