STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION — Page 504

The rich blue sky looks better, though I understand the reasoning behind having a slightly greenish sky’s on a planet of yellow and orange sand but it’s not a science fiction film so aesthetics are a higher priority. Loved how you have reflipped and reframed Threepio. I noticed this from the original ANH:R but just adding the blue eye light to Artoo makes him more Artoo. Everything looks sharper. The Battle droid cameo is as subtle as it originally was. Hopefully you will manage to sneak at least one Rogue One style Imperial battledroid onto the Death Star.

I’ve never seen a version with a greenish sky. The official blu-ray looks grey and Ady’s looks blue.

Clip Time !

A fix that i wanted to do for ANH:R when i started, but no matter how much i tried it never worked. It’s the shots of 3P0 when he spots the sandcrawler in the distance. It was an obvious flipped shot due to the oil stain being on the opposite side of his torso suddenly. Rotoscoping 3P0 to fix the problems with the shot being flipped was a nightmare. I could never get it to look anywhere near passable . It was just impossible when doing the SD version and i thought i may stand a better chance when a HD versions became available. But i kept failing, right up until a couple of years ago when i decided to shelve the idea .

But sometimes, long after i’ve given up, i decide to give something one last try. I’m so glad i did because i worked out how to do it to a level that i feel works so i can finally cross that continuity error off my list.

In this comparison video you’ll notice that the official version goes out of sync with the Revisited one. This is because i had to shorted one shot and extend another for this to work once the rotoscoping with finished.

I have tried posting this numerous times now and everywhere i’ve uploaded it, it has instantly been blocked. My only option was to upload it to google drive. I don’t know how long this will last due to the bandwidth restrictions , but it was my only option. You can view the preview or download the clip to see it in better quality ( which is what i would recommend )

See if you can spot all the fixes…

(although i have used the 2020 Blu-Ray for this comparison, there are shots i used from the 2011 Blu-Ray, or a mixture of both)

Looks incredible, Ady! Great work!

I loved it; starfields again! Blue skies & whiter clouds, R2’s circular eye turning blue-to red and back (and his rear circular eye being a brighter green), Threepio now facing the altered trajectory of the ‘Crawler, the overall colouring making the droids featured pop (and Threepio’s sliver leg appears more pronounced, too). The two planets in the background at night, Jawas’ brighter eyes, the Crawler’s ramp and surrounding lighting - for the distance shot, and the blue inner door of the escape pod for the ‘Look, sir. Droids!’. (plus whatever else I missed).

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Love it!

However, the original film doesn’t reveal that Tatooine has two suns until the binary sunset scene. This version obviously does, and although I’m sure this was well considered, just wanted to mention it.

Artoo’s red/blue light looks great, and the “looksirdroids” scene is perfect.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Why was that first closeup shot of R2 extended by a few seconds?

He just switched the shot with another one from later. I’m unsure why, but it’s been like this since the SD version, right Ady?

It doesn’t look blue in the two earlier shots.

I always love watching these videos. I’ll see what I spot, but there’s always plenty I don’t see initially, so let me know what I missed.

  • Obviously major color correction that looks fantastic.
  • Tatooine has a more vibrant larger atmosphere from space.
  • R2’s red/blue light and yellow/green light fixed.
  • The sky color on Tatooine isn’t blending in to the sand which made everything on screen beige. The sky looks SO much better.
  • Completely new sky at several different parts
  • Flipped C3P0 shot that originally had his silver leg on the wrong side @2:05
  • Flipped C3P0 shot to correct direction while keeping bones the same in the background + the bone head is consistent instead of magically on its side @2:24
  • New shot of Sandcrawler @2:29
  • Bone head again fixed at @2:40
  • There’s foot prints in the sand of where C3P0 walked up to! @2:40
  • 2 suns and different background @2:46
  • Jawa eyes bigger/brighter @3:47
  • R2 had a mark on him where a restraining bolt was going to be placed in the future that’s been removed @3:49
  • Jawa eyes raised higher instead of being basically in his neck @4:19
  • New sky and 2 moons @4:33
  • The Sandcrawler high beams are on @4:33
  • Door and ramp added to Sandcrawler @4:33
  • R2 had a mark on him where a restraining bolt was still not attached yet @5:05
  • R2 restraining bolt now in consistent location @5:12
  • Battle droid in scrap pile @5:32
  • C3P0 has a blue dot on his restraining bolt @6:12
  • Special edition shot removed @6:35 with original shot extended like an extra second to help sync up
  • Escape pod door blue now? @6:45 (it seemed to be grey in every other shot)

The C3P0 flipped shot fixes turned out great! And your color correction is always stunning. I can’t remember if there was some controversy about adding the battle droid to the junk pile a while back, but I personally like it.

I’ve never seen a version with a greenish sky. The official blu-ray looks grey and Ady’s looks blue.

I’m seeing a pale greenish tint to the sky in the Blu-ray version which might be justified as particulates in the atmosphere but doesn’t look anywhere near as good as Adywan’s rich blue. And as I say Star Wars isn’t Science Fiction.

You have to remember that “The Clone Wars” hadn’t even come out when the SD version was released, a lot of things have changed since then. LOL

Excellent work!!

If I may, I think I do understand the intention behind the shot mirroring that unfortunately caused the continuity error. The sandcrawler is on the left side of the screen, so it makes more sense visually to have threepio looking and waving toward screen left. The new version is therefore a bit jarring.

Love the other changes!
