Sound editing is now complete. Working on the video transitions next.

More good news. I got around to setting up the microphone for my new computer, and I can say that I finally have a microphone that works. This means that I will get to work on that darned commentary I’ve been promising so much (but keep breaking due to technical difficulties). So, once I’m done with the video transitions, I’ll be putting that microphone to good use and recording the commentary track. So, for those of you waiting patiently to hear my ugly voice, wait no more once the re-edit is available.

And for those of you who don’t have enough disk space, I will be making a compressed 720p version that I intend to bring down to less than 5gb of storage. Oh, I’m still releasing this edit in the ever-so-wonderful lossless 1080p. It’s just that I’ve been getting a few users who either don’t have enough disk space or have a hard time with the cloud storage site that my edits are uploaded on. I will be uploading the 720p version on a different cloud storage site (don’t want to name names in case of security issues), so it will be accessible to more users. The audio tracks are also going to be changed from DTS-HD to the more conventional AAC for the 720p version (Sorry, but those DTS tracks are bigger than I thought). The 1080p version, however, will still have DTS-HD tracks.

So yeah, I think things are looking good. I don’t know how long the commentary track will take, but hopefully, I’m getting close to finishing v3.

Video transitions are complete. I’m gonna take a look at my edit for anything I may have missed, then I’m gonna get to work on the commentary track.

Just gave the edit a watch. I think all the bases are covered now. Gonna work on the commentary this week.

I was planning to work on the commentary this evening, but I ended up with a few technical difficulties instead. I’ve fixed them, but I have to go to sleep now. I’ll start work on the commentary tomorrow.

Just started on the commentary today. Turns out I have a bit of stage fright on the mic, so I’m gonna take it easy and work on it step by step. I don’t know how long it might take, but I’ll get it done one way or another.

Completed the first 5 minutes of the commentary. Still trying on fix my stage fright. I think this commentary track might take me a while, but I’m taking the baby steps needed to complete it.

Thanks! I’m still inching my way through the commentary in the slowest manner possible. Hopefully, I’m not trying everyone’s patience. That’s just how things have turned out so far.

I’m getting the next couple of days off, so I’m hoping to speed things up a little. It’s still amazing how much of a nerve-wracking experience it is to record this track. I’m gonna keep working on it. Kicking and screaming if I have to.

Yay! I’ve finished recording my thoughts on Jar Jar (and the gungans, respectively), and I’m still inching my way through the commentary track. Still got a long way to go, but I’m getting there.

Just made it past the 10-minute mark on the commentary track. I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. I’m not feeling as freaked out about recording on the mic. Sure, I still have my moments, but I’m starting to lose that fear, which is good.

Sadly, the version that’s out is v2. But given that it’s taking me an eternity to record the commentary track, I’m beginning to think it’s a good idea to release v3 sooner rather than later. Because everything else is done, there’s no point in delaying it for everyone on account of an audio track that isn’t complete yet. I can just release v3 ASAP, then when the commentary is officially complete, I can replace the v3 file with one that includes the commentary track. Seems like a win-win for everyone.

I’ll give the edit (sans commentary track) a test to see if it works, then I’ll send it out if everything looks right.

That’s grand, but don’t push yourself to satisfy your audience just for our own sake! You’ve put a lot of work into this and your thoughts deserve to be heard, so if that’s important to you then don’t compromise on our account! You’re the artist here buddy.

Don’t worry about it, Eddie. Testing and releasing is a lot easier than recording a commentary track (Trust me. Stage fright will never fail to make something harder). Worst case scenario, I find something that needs to be fixed before I send it out to the world wide web.

Speaking of which, Handbrake just had an update, and now, the DTS-HD option has been removed. However, there are a lot of new audio codecs available, so I’m gonna do some research on these newer codecs. FLAC looks like the most promising option, since it’s lossless and open source as well. AAC is still available, so I will still be using that for the compressed version.

I exported v3 from Resolve on h.264, but when I converted the file to Handbrake and turned it into an MKV file, I found that the color grading looked off. So, I exported from Resolve on an 8-bit DNxHD file instead, and the converted MKV file from Handbrake looked much closer to the color grading I saw in Resolve, which is good.

That aside, I finished testing the lossless 1080p version just a few minutes ago. The conversion worked perfectly, and the FLAC 5.1 soundtrack sounds right (at least, for my TV stereo speakers). I will be testing the lossy, compressed 720p version with AAC 5.1 tomorrow. If all looks well on that version, I’ll be ready to release v3 for now.
