Nice, curious to see some snippets of your ideas!

Could I get a link to the workprint?

Also, if anyone who’s watched the workprint wants to give feedback on anything that stood out - bad or good - I’d appreciate it! There’s no pressure, if you just want to watch the workprint, but if you do want to give your thoughts on it, then I’m very happy to hear them.

I watched parts of it yesterday, not fully due to unforeseen distraction and whatnot, so I’ll try again and do a combo of your dialogue change script and “see” it on screen. Of course, it’s a work print so its not meant to be a perfect reflection on it be “complete” … even let alone if some things are not “possible” to make it seamless.

I will say though, one spot that I think is a standout is removing the dialogue with Rey in the cave. Personally, it was a mistake to have Rey “explaining” things. It took me out of the scene and had me feel, nothing. No impact before he actually speaking in that scene.

By simply removing the voice over, we are now engaged. It has more impact. It’s just better. Don’t tell us what is going on, let’s feel/see it for ourselves.

Anyway, I’ll do my best to sit down and watch it since I have to be frank, I just don’t like TLJ so it’s hard to motivate myself. (As always, for those reasons, if you like the movie as is, or like it with improvements, please enjoy it and more power to you. I hold nothing against people liking or disliking this movie or this trilogy in general. That’s great, it is! I wish I did, but I can’t. I think I need to add this kind of disclaimer in my signature so I won’t take up too much of people’s time with this. Lol.)

I might want a link to the workprint just to experience this. I’m also curious to see how well the echoes are cleared up.

Man, if it’s flawless enough, I’d wonder why Hal or Poppa didn’t do this.

Thanks jarbear! That’s been my rationale with a lot of the dialogue changes in general.

@Jar Jar - I can personally hear every single flaw and imperfection in it, but I’ve listened to it too many times and I anticipate what I’m listening for lol. It probably sounds better to everyone else, but I have no idea how much better. Worst case scenario I’m considering adding some generic Spooky Force Whispers to mask anything, but obviously it’d work better if I can avoid doing that.

I meant to say earlier - if you notice any discrepancies between the script and the edit, please let me know so I can fix up the script. I made some decisions during editing that differed from my planned script but I didn’t note them down at the time.

WIP: Luke deactivates his lightsaber immediately in the third flashback; he doesn’t realise Kylo is awake and hears it. VFX shot courtesy of SparkySywer.

Wait, did he actually complete the shot? I knew he had plans to make that edit a while back, but he actually finished it?

Yes, the visuals are complete. The SFX of Luke’s ignited lightsaber is still audible on the dialogue channel, though, and I’m having trouble removing it.

Are you considering including anything related to Palpatine to set up TROS?

No. Let the mistakes of that movie be contained to that movie. The changes I’m making here are pretty much set at this point, other than the odd detail that might be altered depending on technical limitations.

It’s on youtube if you want to see it. I don’t know if this is identical to what will be in TLJ: Stoic, because Faraday implied he’d be making alterations of his own, but this is what I gave him. Well, I gave a higher bitrate version of this.

I saw that version. OP’s description seemed like it’s saying that the blade would retract within the same shot after Luke turns it on BEFORE we cut to a different angle, and that the lightsaber would be off completely when we pan down to see Ben (in your clip, we don’t see Ben looking at Luke and the saber).

Ah. That’s how I’d do it ideally, but something like that is beyond what I really think I’d be able to do.

This is really exciting. I’ll wait for the final version rather than the workprint, but it seems like you’ve approached this with real good insight.

Thanks! I don’t have a time estimate on when the final version will be done; once I’ve got the new Rose line mixed to a degree I’m happy with (if such a thing ends up being possible, otherwise I’ll have to figure out a different approach), the only thing left to do will be stuff I’m unfortunately dependent on other people for (eg lengthening a clip).

I’m really interested in this edit. Sounds amazing. I’m looking forward to see any scenes.

Edit : Can I see the Workprint please 🙂
