Sequel Trilogy Rescoring Ideas Thread — Page 4

Lately I’ve been experimenting with putting Holst’s “Mars - The Bringer of War” in TROS’ finale; it’s not technically a > Star Wars piece, but it had a lot of influence on A New Hope’s soundtrack, so using it here might make it feel like it’s come full circle.
Here it is as Rey is standing up to Palpatine:

Ngl, reminds me more of Murray Gold than John Williams, but still not totally off-base. Still, of all the places you could possibly remove the Force theme from, this feels like the wrong one. It works well enough here, though.

Someone else has probably already done this, but I thought I’d give it a try and the timing ended up working fairly well:

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

I like it too, it just reminds me so much of the Imperial March that I feel like it would work better in ROTS or TESB than in a moment that’s meant to be about Luke.

I don’t feel the resemblance is that strong or really at all, but that’s just my take. It’s also that that Samuel Kim Mando music doesn’t sound like Williams Star Wars.

I feel like Across the Stars is secretly lightsaber fight music (warning: extremely half-baked mockup). I’m not sure this is a feasible rescore though; you’d probably have to seriously butcher together bits of various renditions of AtS and re-time the sequence to get them to fit together. Plus, it’s a very on-the-nose needle drop.

Whoa.

Eh, I don’t think we should go overboard with Across the Stars. It’s really Anakin and Padme’s love theme.

That works really well, but I agree that it’s got the wrong sort of narrative baggage with it.

The Holst music works surprisingly great until she catches Leia’s lightsaber, in my opinion. That would be a good moment to transition to a different piece of music.
