The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 464

The line would work best if somebody had explained on screen to 3PO who he is after his mind was wiped.

But yeah, since that didn’t happen, he’s gonna have to say “It appears” beforehand (which implies that he either pieced things together or was told offscreen). Otherwise it sounds too much like something 3PO would say pre-mindwipe. It is funny, but it’s not worth it imo if it doesn’t make sense.

I like the idea of adding a shot of stormtroopers in the hangar beforehand so we have a bit more time. Then the Trooper could say “Who are you, droid” or “What is your operating number” and we could still fit “It appears”. Does anyone have a little clip I could slot in there?

And yes, I will be supplying raw audio, not finalized clips, so it can be laid in wherever anyone wants.

Axlanian, whenever you re-record, would you mind redoing my old lines that are currently there?

”What’s your operating number?”

”Ugh, kill me now…”

Just thought it might be nice to have those as back up just in case.

Hey Hal, are you interested in using RogueLeader’s ideas for Kijimi in Ascendant too? About having it be mid-Civil War with people fighting stormtroopers off in the distance?

(Slight deviation from the Dagger discussions, I know.)

I would be interested in some spray paintings of Luke Skywalker on the walls.

Side note: I cannot get over the fact that the official canon explanation for why nobody came to help on Crait was that the First Order cut communication lines. Like, bruh. The whole point of the movie is that everyone was hopeless until Luke shows up.

It’s actually explained well in the book Resistance Reborn by Delilah S Dawson. It seems dumb when randomly referenced in the novelization, but has a lot of emotional implications for Poe, that ROS evidently ignored.

Sorry, I meant in aurebesh.

Besides graffiti, I didn’t think to much extra would be necessary. You can already hear blaster shots and stuff in the distance I believe, during certain points of the Kijimi sequence. I think adding more sounds of distant blaster fire, explosions, even battle cries, could help keep that in the audiences mind. It looks like the stormtroopers are raiding houses, so you could even have something like a distant First Order announcement saying anyone harboring insurgents will be punished, or something like that.

If this clip gets created with more battle noises and the graffiti/posters added, I will absolutely add some yells to the background

Same here! I was late to the party regarding the civilian fleet. So, I’d love to be included in this section if we’re able to work it out. 😄

Do you remember when it was in the book? I don’t remember that part and don’t have time to go back and reread the entire thing lol

I realize this is kinda getting off topic, but I’d rather consider the emotional implications of the galaxy at large over one character. Thematically speaking, what was present in TLJ alone worked the best.

It’s the overall main plot of the book. The First Order had been capturing the biggest Resistance allies as political prisoners in a wide-scale organized attack, including some notable names from previous books by other authors, and so Poe & Finn go to rescue them on Corellia while the main Resistance hides out on Ryloth and another team acquires new ships from the junkyard planet in Jedi Fallen Order.

It was actually kind of fun with characters from other canon EU stuff (Battlefront 2, Jedi Fallen Order, Bloodline, Aftermath), all coming together to prepare for the final movie (too bad about that, lol).

Yeah the 3PO new line is very funny. The only thing I’d add would be the: “It appears that…” at the beginning as others suggested, so it sounds more like 3PO is coming to terms with his pre-swipe life.

Ah ok thanks, I read that book before reading most of the rest of canon content so I definitely missed a lot of connections. But it does specifically talk about the First Order blocking the Crait transmissions a lot?

It’s looking unlikely that I’ll be able to finish the Vader’s castle moment I’ve been working on for last couple weeks; only disappointing because it took me such long time to make it. Spent all week looking for someone to animate the First Order Tie Fighters, but not had any luck or responses, Sorry.

I seem to recall some discussion a while back about changing 3PO’s final line before being memory wiped, so that it doesn’t sound like he’s chickening out of his sacrifice. Here’s a test run I did, using a newly spliced together line:

I think that’s pretty funny.

Maybe “my friends” would be slightly more fitting though since presumably he’s not talking to any one of them specifically, if you can find an ‘s’ sound that works there.

He does say my friends though, just gotta listen it a bit louder maybe, sounds good to me!

Hehe, that’s pretty good. I do like the original line, though, and it culls a line from a couple scenes prior. It does fit with his self-aggrandizing personality.

To get off topic just a tiny bit, the first cut was mentioned in a youtube video today from pretty big channel and they mentioned the things that have been added.

That’s a really decent video, especially to give people a primer on the concept of fanediting. The Ascendant stuff is almost all in the last five minutes if anyone just wants to look at that.

Interesting video! Especially since I’ve never looked into edits outside of TROS in the almost year I’ve been involved. Very cool that Ascendant got featured for a bit

No worries if you don’t want to use it, Hal; I don’t even remember who raised the issue in the first place. To what earlier line are you referring though? I don’t recall any others off-hand.

And yeah, there I did add an “s” to the end of the word, but I can make it louder. I didn’t want to just copy the earlier use of “Taking one last look at my friends.” I was worried that copying the line so soon after would be too obvious; so I had to get the word “friend” from somewhere else.

Honestly, I find it more distasteful how 3PO describes this procedure as “dangerous and sinful” or whatever, and none of our heroes even care for a second. Poe’s more worried about bumping into his ex than he is about potentially hurting or damaging this Star Wars icon. I wonder if it would be possible to slot in a little extra Poe dialogue, something like “Let’s do that!” “Well… I do know a black-market droidsmith. But he’s on Kijimi.” Maybe extend the sequence with a shot of a worried look from Rey. Gives them at least a moment to ponder over the ramifications of what they’re about to do to their “friend,” while still letting Finn make his little joke.

Yeah, 3PO is treated like dirt in this movie by the main characters. I dunno, it just felt different coming from Han or something.

And I enjoyed the video; very fair glimpse into the world of fan editing. And of course I felt proud of what you all have put together with Ascendant as it was mentioned at the end.

Probably feels different since it really came from ONE character in the OT, who’s personality and reactions to things made it at least “make sense,” but this one it’s the whole crew like that … it makes it … obnoxious and off putting to be blunt. They ACTIVELY did not care and were ok with him “sacrificing,” so if it was ESB, they may NOT have repaired C3P0 like Chewy did. Lol.

I don’t think Rey was ever explicitly okay with it. Finn just kinda goes with the flow. Poe is outright mean to him, but that is to be expected since he’s this trilogy’s version of Han.
