The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 455

To repeat myself, I’ve been preoccupied with something but it’s being chipped away at and one of these nights I’ll be able to catch up with my TROS:A V2 to-do list. I’m backed up, but it’s just a matter of having the time and doing the things on the list.

I do think “Is every day like this for you people” could work. To me, the most important piece that needs to really work well is the 3PO redub. I can’t tell you how many audio clips I had sent in for the civilian fleet that had to be excluded or buried because, as much as I appreciate the submissions, they do not at all sound like they came from a billion-dollar movie. (Still, everyone who sent me something is technically in there!)

I feel like if the lines are timed a little differently, we won’t even need an ice-breaker. I may try to play around with it tonight. (My hard drive just had to be reformatted, and I lost all of my previous projects (yay); but now I should be back in the game!) I guess it depends on Jannah’s reactions during the scene. If she has a slight smile, or a half-laugh to herself, then I think we need an ice-breaker; if she remains kind of tense and aloof throughout the confrontation, it would be better without.

I’m looking forward to seeing it! I agree that simple is better.

Also, sympathy for the hard drive failure. I’ve had that happen before and it’s the worst.

If we do want a 3PO line, I say keep it simple. Everyone’s eying each other suspiciously, and then 3PO just chimes in with “Hello! I am C-3PO - Human/cyborg relations!” [Awkward pause]

Honestly, this is pretty damn good. Easy to implement and made me chuckle out loud reading it.

EDIT: Playing off of Hal’s idea, it would work if it played out like:

Jannah: Are you Resistance?
POE: That depends.
C-3PO: What resistance?

I’m just not sure…do we have 3PO audio to support that? Like jarbear said, I think we can get away with recording a new translation, because his voice is supposed to sound different during that part anyway. I’d be worried about recording new lines in his normal voice though.

I think Chase Adams already recorded a new 3PO line for Ascendant, unless I’m remembering wrong, and I’ve never been able to pick which one it is when I’ve watched it. So if he’s willing to record another line that might be a possibility. But just having 3PO introduce himself might be perfect anyway.

I don’t think Chase recorded a line, did he? It was from TCW or something, right? RIGHT?

Oh, and I missed that; yes, “I am C-3PO, human cyborg relations” might work well! Just to note: he did already say that when he woke up after losing his memory.

I’d just assumed from “Chase Adams (3PO dialogue)” in the changelog, combined with 3PO being relatively straightforward to dub because his mouth doesn’t move and some people can do a really good C-3PO impression.

Oh, and I missed that; yes, “I am C-3PO, human cyborg relations” might work well! Just to note: he did already say that when he woke up after losing his memory.

I think that makes it even funnier, honestly. Though obviously we’d grab it from one of the other myriad times he says it, rather than repeat the same clip.

I’m flattered that anyone would think I recorded those lines. I don’t have the vocal abilities to successfully pull off an impression that flawless. 😉

Since I’ve been asked in the past where the lines I provided came from, I’ll clarify now:

“And I will be your protocol droid!” - An episode of the Lego Yoda Chronicles (Can’t remember which one)
“Why is there never an R2 unit when you need one?” - The Clone Wars episode titled ‘Bombad Jedi’

Not sure if that helps, but in Tales from Galaxy’s Edge VR game, 3PO says “(You needn’t worry), I am a highly trained resistance spy”, which may fit the moment in a very goofy way. Unfortunately, there is some ship noise at the same time.

That would be great if someone could clean it up, or has access to the game could rip the audio files? I dunno how that would work on an Occulus thing.

I have Clone Wars 1-3 ripped on my computer. (Maybe I can get the DVDs cheap for the rest … could be helpful for C3p0 lines.

Anyway, there is a pretty clean line from 308 Evil Plans that has hims saying “I shall take that as a yes.” That could be used with some other lines possibly.

Here’s a stab at some dubbed 3PO lines:

The Sith fortress on Exegol is hidden from the light. The Wayfinders reveal the path to their acolytes. To those it chooses, only this blade tells.

I like the idea of having iambic pentameter or other poetic elements, save for rhyming. Even for SW, it seems weird to immediately translate into rhymed, poetic rendering.

Awesome resource Lawdog!

I’m using Disney plus to skim through some more episodes.

Season 4:06
“May I say, this is not the way to treat friendly visitors on your planet”

Has a little buzzing sound from an electric staff thing … maybe it can be cleaned up?

“Sir, my disagreeable friend here means no disrespect

We are just trying to get back to our home planet. But our ship is damaged and I fear that repaired or not but further travel on it might not result our arrival there unscathed.”
(Clean lines)

“Oh you must understand this is an accident” (clean)

Tried adding some pine trees and Volcanic activity to the Vader’s castle shot, but not found anything as of yet that feels right for this particular shot in those regards so didn’t render with it. Currently have tested out backdrop Tie-Fighters for a flyby and added small camera motion as requested. Stock footage is hard to work in-terms finding a way to composite / implement Lava footage, if anyone has any ideas on that note can still test things out.

@hal: I agree on your assessment about rhyming, it wouldn’t make sense if a translated thing happens to rhyme. However taking cues from poetry, like iambic pentameter would work. I like the second one.

No offense, but it seems like the lighting and movement on your TIEs is unnatural. Also, I was personally imagining that they would move from left to right on the screen with a steady altitude.

Not sure how I feel about the shaky cam. The other two shots we have of the TIEs don’t have camera movement like that. I personally don’t remember anyone suggesting shaky cam. I remember suggestions for different animations on each of the branches but that was about it (although even that isn’t necessary).

Other than those two things, I still like the base shot you have made. IMO it looks better than the Rogue One footage. I feel like it just needs some better TIEs and no shaky cam.

If someone is willing to render the ties as a transparent mov or on a coloured backdrop I can composite better ties into the scene, I wasn’t 100% confident about them either but needed to see what you guys think first.

First Order Tie Fighter 3D model I have isn’t that good either, just grabbed something of Sketchfab because the Battlefront II models I have aren’t working for me.

I third the take on the Castle Shoot Per Jar Jar and Hal.

If I knew how with the TIEs and whatnot, I would agree this could be a replacement for the Rogue One shot if done well.

I have a friend who works in game development for the Occulus, I can ask him if there’s a way of cleanly ripping the audio files.

Update: he says it’s difficult to do that on the Quest version because it’s Android-based, but he can help if it gets released for the Rift, which is PC-based. But if someone knows their way around Android software, it’s still possible to access the files, he just doesn’t know how personally.

I don’t know, it still doesn’t communicate anything solid from the dagger.

The Sith fortress on Exegol is hidden from the light. Surrender to the darkness within to find the way. To the wielder’s dark nature, only this blade tells.

Or something like that. Stated bluntly, to emphasize the gist trying to be conveyed:

Exegol can’t be found by light side use. You have to give in to your dark side to find the Wayfinder. This blade tells, but only addresses your darker nature (so get in touch with it and let it grow ears).

What if it was “my wielder” instead of “a wielder”?

I really like it otherwise!
