Just posing a sincere question.

Which fan edits of each of the films in the Prequel Trilogy are your favorite?

Why?

I would just love to see what I can learn from those edits.

My favourite revenge of the sith edit is Hal9000’s labyrinth of evil mostly because it strips the movie of its overfilled story and creates an effective a, b, c, plot that really weaves through. I think that the editing of this movie lost a lot of the charm and drama, and this edit pulls it back in. I love the political rebellion scenes added back in, and the Yoda and Palpatine fight removal.

I’m reluctant to say, as there are so many fan edits out there (including yours truly) that it’s hard to keep up. However, of the ones I’ve seen, it’s a toss-up between l8wrtr’s and HAL9000’s edits. I prefer l8wrtr’s take on Episode I, but I agree with natestarwarsfan122 on the superiority of HAL9000’s take on Episode III. With Episode II, though, I’m on the fence between HAL and l8wrtr.

I have altered Lucas’ visions. Pray I don’t alter them any further.

All the ones mentioned are great.

Also, I really like the New Canon Cut of Episode III. The scene where Palpatine reveals himself to Anakin as the Sith Lord is the best version of that scene I’ve ever seen.

For Ep 1/2 I think Hal’s latest iterations are near perfect: they still feel and look like real movies, with almost nothing which sells their fanedited nature. Ep2 still retains bad (but not THAT bad) stuff to avoid jarring cuts. If someday Lucasfilm releases finalized deleted scenes, Ep2 could be as perfect as it could be I guess. Ep1 is near as good except I still feel that the first meeting with the Gungas is missing (I’m on the other hand ok with removing the long and boring journey to the planet core).
For Ep3 not sure which one is the best as I think I prefer the theatrical cut enhanced with the deleted scenes (unlike Ep1/2 I do like Ep3 as a good movie with many flaws but with many qualities we don’t find in SW latest entries anymore). The best cut would be the extended cut with a few things removed borrowing from various fanedits. Octoroxx was working on something which could be that near perfection I guess.

So long 🙌

What is that?

Blackened Mantle is a Japanese language Prequel 3-in-1 edit where footage from Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones is used as flashbacks during Revenge of the Sith.

Blackened Mantle is my go-to, both for conciseness and getting the most out of the material available. But comparing it to other fanedits feels unfair because of the liberties not having to deal with English audio affords it.

As for ‘normal’ fanedits, I’d got with HAL’s trilogy although I do have a soft spot in my heart for the Phantom Edits I and II.

It’s a shame that the Phantom Editor doesn’t seem to have made an edit for ROTS.

EDIT:

Personally, I most prefer HAL’s AOTC and NFBism’s New Canon Cut of ROTS.

As you all know, I also prefer to consider AOTC as Episode 1, with my own rearrangement of episodes from “The Clone Wars” forming an in-between-quel, which I titled ‘Labyrinth of Evil.’

Which episodes did you choose for your inbetweenquel? What do you think best bridges AOTC/ROTS?

To start, I chose the Battle of Christophsis and intro to Ahsoka Tano, leading up to the moment when Anakin says, “You wouldn’t have made it as Obi-Wan’s Padawan, but you might make it as mine.”

There’s a montage of Anakin and Ahsoka’s adventures throughout the Clone Wars; the episodes used are too numerous to list, and I barely recall off the top of my head. I used a combo of adventure and growth moments from the series.

After that, I edited together the entire arc where Ahsoka was framed for the bombing on the Jedi Temple, using wipes to transition to the next part of the story arc, leading up to the moment that Ahsoka walks away from the Jedi Order.

After the credits, I also inserted sequences showing the Battle on Yerbana, Ahsoka talking to Anakin and Obi-Wan via hologram, and then setting up the Siege of Mandalore, leading up to Obi-Wan announcing that Coruscant has been attacked.
